Eritrea - Top-Pick Country by Lonely Planet for 2008

Eritrea has been named by travel book publishing giant, Lonely Planet, as one of its "top-pick countries" to visit in 2008. Lonely Planet writes, "Eritrea might have one of the toughest regimes in East Africa but for travellers it's one of the most welcoming countries on the continent, with virtually no hassle, extremely courteous people (including officials), a sense of harmony and a strong culture. Its trump cards include surreal landscapes and pristine reefs".

Other countries picked by Lonely Planet include Armenia, Bhutan, Malaysia, Montenegro, Mozambique and Papua New Guinea.

In 2007, Ethiopia was one of 12 destinations in the world picked by Frommer's Travel Guide as Top 12 destinations for 2007.

Finally nazret's bring a good news out of Eritrea surprisingly it's a good start but I don't know how the change of heart comes to wards Eritrea at this time. but we wish all good things to happen for our brothers in Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan too, we Eritreans are very strong minded and patient, and all the good things will come to us back, our enemies will take them a while to understand how we survive to these day but they will know over time because that is our mark, identity and that is our nature we don’t like to talk too much we put everything inside but we know for sure we will be a winners in time, be patience a little more my people.

Eritrea my heart

For such a useless country it has had a long history of being used. Someone out there seems to have a high interest in Eritrea. In fact 70 million of our neighbors ought to ask themselves, why they feel so strong about Eritrea. The landscape? Amazing. The sea? Gorgeous. The people? Weathered. The Reefs? Pristine. I love Eritrea with my heart and soul. Its beauty is inescapable.

There is no need to belittle a country to put up your own, especially since both Eritrea and Ethiopia have amazing landscapes that if used properly and strategically can in fact help the tourism industry.

Only a loser would not see the potential in what both have to offer as countries. This is not a competition, its a matter of economic development and sustainibility of both countries.

This is good to hear. Now lets just hope that Meles Zenawi ends this "No Peace, No War" situation in the Horn of Africa created by the Western masters of his regime so we can all reap the benefits of tourism.

Peace to the Horn of Africa
