It is not a bad idea if it’s intended in a positive way as a preparatory measure hence the level of education of the ‘native’ pupils is understandably higher than the girls in question. This ‘positive discrimination’ in the end will help our immigrants to elevate their aspiration to more than average standards. After all, the very decision to enrol them in this school is, let us agree, a sign of goodwill.

From what i understood the school is a religious school which means all students must follow strict religious code. In this case not using the internet, not watching TV..etc. Anybody who do not follow the rules will be treated differently. The 4 girls were considered not religious observant enough by the school.

So my friends lets try to understand the reasons why the school decided to separate and teach the girls from the general student population. Blaming everything on racism is very easy. Racism can be used to cover the real problems. Under this racism cover the real problems will stay unresolved for a long time. People can not change their ethnic back ground. But they can change their actions.

Play by the rules and see if [race] is still a factor. There is only one race. That is THE HUMAN RACE.

A child who has a normal experience at school wouldn't finish his breakfast in his/her hurry to get to school. I don't know about you but if my CHILD comes back from school depressed I would KNOW that there is something horrible going on. And for the life of me, how can putting a child in a class with ONE teacher for ALL subjects be considered elevating "their aspiration to more than average standards" When you want to improve a performance level, you give a student MORE, not LESS help - as in tutoring, after-school classes, mentoring...to name a few. Also, if you want to cultivate some values of whatever kind in these children, you would choose to CULTIVATE it in them instead of QUARANTINING them. This is a blatant case of racism. I say CASE because I don't want to make a generalization about a whole population. But, for fairness' sake, don't try to justify and explain it away. It was a wrong action.

I can understand your concern and share your sentiments towards those poor kids. The fact of the matter, however is that this is not typical of Israel’s educational policy. By now there must have been tens of thousands of Ethiopians or Ethiopian Jewish who immigrated to Israel and, apart from the few hiccups in the process of assimilation, enjoy life in their newly found land.

When it comes to specialised schools, call it religious, experimental, community or any other, they have their own criteria in admitting pupils who, in some cases vis-à-vis the establishments own rules, do not qualify everyone. The school we are referring is not a different one and can’t be used as a stepping stone for a wholesale accusation of that country’s policy towards Falashas or other Ethiopian immigrants. Let us be fair……….

As for your remark of Falashas becoming soldiers, it’s every Jew’s moral obligation to serve their country by joining the army or any of its auxiliary services. Whether one continues to remain member of the armed forces as a professional is totally a different matter………as you may understand, it is always difficult for everyone to be a rocket scientist or a neuron- surgeon. How many of us are working as a teacher, lawyer, engineers, businessmen or have any other white-colour profession in our second country despite our impressive photograph of graduation hanging in the bedroom for the past fifteen years.
