Ethiopia Election Board disagrees with election crisis predictions
Indicators exist but preventive mechanisms have been put in place: Addisu Gebreigziabher

“I do not agree with the prediction that conflicts will evolve into violence or crisis during the coming elections,” deputy chairman of the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia told The Reporter.
Dr. Addisu Gebreigziabher, responding to a question in reference to a September report by the International Crisis Group, said that while certain indicators do exist showing the possibility of conflicts escalating into violence, he believed there were mechanisms to prevent and or resolve those conflicts.
“One of these mechanisms is the bond that exists between the people of this country. The other mechanism is the mutual tolerance and respect that exists between the religions in Ethiopia. And we have put in place laws and procedures to resolve conflicts that might arise during election. Had these mechanisms not existed then the [International Crisis Group] would have been right on its emphasis,” he said.
