Menelik's Watch The Negus Watch

Ethiopia - Emperor Menelik's Watch sold for $52,000 at Geneva auction

A watch made specially for Ethiopia's emperor Menelik II, has sold for $51,607.20 at an auction in Geneva, Switzerland. The very rare and historically important watch is made of 18K Yellow Gold and sold for 52,500 CHF which is about $51,607.20 based on XE's currency conversion.

The watch is also known as The 'Negus Watch'. The following is the note published on Sotheby's auction catalog.

Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia, (1844 – 1913), was baptised Sahle Maryam and was known as Negus of Shewa from 1866 to 1889 and finally as Nəgusä Nägäst of Ethiopia from 1889 to his death.

'The Negus Watch' stands for progress, innovation and modernity, which in turn are key characteristics of the reign of Emperor Menelik II. The Watch was a gift to Léon Chefneux in 1893 in recognition of his contribution to the implementation of Ethiopia's first railway line, which ran from Djibouti to Addis-Ababa. Specifically, in his choice of the Watch, it is highly likely that Menelik II was influenced by the Swiss engineer, Alfred Ilg who was responsible for the construction of the railway system. The Negus is a precision timekeeper with chronometer detent escapement.

As inscribed on the inside of the case 'Don de Sa Majesté Menelik II Empereur d'Ethiopie', the Watch was probably presented as a welcome gift before the commercial agreement signed by the Compagnie Impériale des Chemins de fer Ethiopiens, a company founded by Alfred Ilg and Léon Chefneux.

Menelik II took an independent stance in relation to other colonised countries in Africa. He was intrigued by modernity and actively sought to introduce Western technological and administrative advances in Ethiopia. Notably, Menelik II founded the first modern bank in Ethiopia, the Bank of Abyssinia, he introduced the modern postal system, the supply of electricity to Addis-Ababa and telephone and telegraph systems.

Inevitably this desire for modernity mostly impacted the capital, Addis-Abeba, which became a large cosmopolitan city and an important destination for traders from around the world, typically Armenian, Yemenite, Greek, Indian and French merchants worked in Addis-Abeba at this time. Menelik II's accomplishments were also down to his charismatic personality and his genius at diplomacy with Western powers, mainly France and Great Britain. His charm remained a powerful asset until the final years of his reign.

'The Negus Watch' has remained in the same family for over 100 years and it is the first time it has appeared at auction. It is an historical fragment from a pivotal period in the history of Ethiopia and encapsulates the visionary role played by Emperor Menelik II.

Hi Nazret,
I am very amazed by reading the following phrase in the above text as "Menelik II took an independent stance in relation to other colonised countries in Africa"

It is ridiculous to read such erroneous message in a public media like Nazret.com. First and foremost, one has to ask some important questions such as: who was Menelik? where he came from? How he managed to come to power? By virtue of who and what did he hang on power? where was the territorial boundaries of the then country called Abyssinia? How many innocent Oromos and other non-Amharas people paid their precious lives during Menilik's inhumane, fascitic and barbaric agressions against the independent Cushitic, Bantus and Nylotic peoples of the south.

Menilik was one of the then colonizing powers and consequently took part in the historic Berlin conference along with the western colonizers in a bid to scrumble Africa. Thus, how on earth would Menlik take partial stance towards the other colonizing powers? In fact, they were equal partners of his colonizing business.

Millions of Oromos and southern peoples of the present fallacious and fictitious Ethiopia were killed in the prolonged war against the Northern colonizers led by Menilik. Tens of thousands of Oromos, both young and old men were mutulated their genitalia whereas, young Oromo women were amputated their limbs and breasts.

Menilik, by any scale, was the most cruel and barber of the recent human history who silently destroyed and who throughly changed the Horn of African demographic and physical struture as a result who left behind all deep rooted hatred, instablity, insecurity, social and economic retardations among the nations and nationalities.

And it was sold for a cheap price---even I could have afforded it. I wish I was auction. I would have bought it and donated it to the national museum of Ethiopia.

Abebe Gomoro,

Where is your time parameter, my brother - moro (a black lad like me)?

Don't nullify the role of one of the first modernizing kings in the nonwestern countries.

Why do hypocrites in the west and some people like you compare yesteryear's meager harvest with today's overproduce?

How could Menelik be a 'barbarian', when he was a civilizer, a confirmed modern civilization starter and its consumer?

How could he would be a colonialist when he is, as the world history puts it, a monarch who has defeated a colonialist nation?

A man, whom many younger nations treated him with respect and have forsaken totally the colonialists' - because of his charisma and the power of message - dominant stratagem and took a model from him?

To be as an observer in Berlin's Scramble for Africa, in the political conference of great nations of the day, is also not some thing he should be chastised about but a sign of his order - an attribution that not other guys but he was in command of his own house.

BeKatchaamna baere yaresse yelem endilu, the split milk on the floor is gone (only hungry pussies can leak it), we have only to learn from the eerie past of our forefathers and not to repeat it and we have yes only to step forward. Modernization has changed in general the cruelty and has scrapped it off -- and substandard human relation ship -- from the surface of the earth. This slow delight of modernization took place in Africa, 'thanks' to the displayed instruction of 'absolute monarchs', it is ironical but true, like Menelick's (western type administration, modern banking, communication) Yohannes's (diplomacy and international relation) and Theodros' (science and technology and modern military armory), H. Selassie (modern urbanization). Remember the rest of the world, specially Subsaharan Africa was languishing in 'tribal' feuds and ignorance that it has created itself during centuries - and it was not free from it - far from it, it was immersed in it. To be led by Abyssinian/Ethiopian Kaisers in this period of time was a good thing who have demystified and cleaned the polluting air of ignorance.

Read the novels of Charles Dickens Boudelaire, and Dostevsky, what did Europe - East and West - look like a century ago with a decaying system that impoverished the land, leave alone Ethiopia which was much more a troubled nation. Killing and decapitation was a punishment for all Ethiopians that severed the nation, not to particular groups. I understand also your logic and not an iota, the Ethiopian nation not exercising AFERSATA, but other cruel feudal punishment measures was very troublesome. As in some Asian/African countries follow the rule of justice through Sharia law. Extremely sorry for what happened in the past to some groups in South Ethiopia, I am also equally sorry for what has happened in the 20th century between Eritrea and Ethiopia. The famished lands of Wollo and Tigray. The bombarded earth of Tigray and Godjam, that the H.S regime used to silence - keep inner restraints - resistance. But some Eritrean and OLF mouth pieces considering Ethiopia as a colonialist power is untrue and doesn't make any sense.

The watch is a sublime!

I forgot the main issue while arguing with Ato Gomoro, to comment on the fine swiss watch of Atse Menelik. The craft is amazing, whole gold - back, front cover - and inside behind the glass, a white enamel or an ivory and the soft blue geez numbers encircling the watch's inside edges are heart piercing, awesome! It is pity if Ethiopians haven't bought it to deliver it one day to the Ethiopian public. It doesn't matter or keep it in their safes. Our bourgeoisie when will it stop buying cars and lands, but historic items, marvelous minute miniatures and art? When?

Where is our civilization conduct or is it like we are a big mouth at talk shows, as Ato Gomoro wrote?

If Ethiopians haven't bought it now, they will, as a standard exposé of the Addis Ababa Museum of Ethnography, in years to come. Then the watch would cost us minimum, 1/2 a million $.

Abebe Gomoro,

With out going here in to the details, i can understand the feelings of Abebe Gomoro. And beyond it, it is impossible to build the future with out understanding and clearing out the past. That is the reason why white Australiens are excusing themselves by the Aborigines and White Americans are saying sorry to the "red Indians". To understand the pain-feelings of some one and to speak out to him a sincerly SORRY is more binding to live with each other in the future, than to tell him always, past is past, therefore shut your mouth, since he can't shut his mouth, while having pain in his soul.

So Abebe Gomoro, please be moderate and continue on your thematic.

Long live Ethiopia with all its mosaic diversity !

What a wonderful watch and a wonderful man.

Emperor Minelik II is probably the greatest African that has ever graced the continent. While the rest of Africa was colonised, he kept his nation free.

Moreover his very shrewd diplomacy and peaceful ways brought the dreams of many Ethiopians into realty.

While many nations, including non-African nations, were mired in tribal fight all over the world, he united his country. While most of the world had no idea of banking system, postal system, electrical and telephonic systems, automobiles and trains, he had already introduced such things to his nation. More than the victory at Adwa, Minelik is remembered for his peaceful and progressive reign.

Atse Minlik died in 1913 peacefully. A very befitting ending to one of the most successful and wise king.

ETERNAL PRAISE TO HIS IMPERIAL HIGHNESS, ATSE MINELIK II.

Abebe Goromo and M.T.:

There is NOT ONE single evidence that Atse Minelik or his army did any of the things you are saying he did. The only evidence that you morons have is the writings of a disgruntled Russian doctor who accompanied RAS GOBENA and other such lowly Ras' who were undoing the works of the Great Atse Minelik.

Atse Minelik is known for his diplomatic skills and very peaceful ways. Infact it were these very skills that endeared him to many people including Werqitu, an oromo leader in wollo who let him pass through her territory when he escaped from Maqdala.

But then, the twisted and creative stories TPLF is fabricating is not new to us. There will come a time when every single one of your lies and false history will come to light and every single one of you will be judged.

Till then, enjoy fabricating history.

LONG LIVE ATSE MINELIK II, THE WISEST KING EVER TO GRACE AFRICA!

Mr. Abebe Gomoro, I don’t know how much you read.
To begin with, if you argue Emeye Minllik is savage, then know that he is a more descendant of Oromo as he can claimed to be Amhara. Just because Ethiopian leaders call themselves as Amhara to be part of the thrown doesn’t mean they are 100% Amhara(if at all there is a particular race called Amhara exist). Both Minillk II and Haile Sellase have more Oromo blood than the one you called them Amhara. But I can’t tell you from which side they learn to be "savage" as you call it since I know both ethnic groups are a victim of their rulers.
However, One thing is true here, EMEYE Minillik, King of Kings of Ethiopia have contributed more than anyone of Ethiopian leaders for the modernization and the strength of Ethiopia and Africa.
Ethiopia, Africa and the whole of suppressed world was inspired to fight back for their freedom and justice. What is more, today me and you enjoy freedom and are a proud people of Ethiopians because of their long-lasting legacy.
Either way I do appreciate your provoking comment and let us keep on discussing.
Lastly, I would say read and don’t be carried away by the story that is created over “MERKANA’

Let me know when his skull in the auction, I will be happy to spend all my meager saving to acquire it. No offence intended.

As for Abebe's grievinces, he has every right to express himself and demand justice for his mulated, disfigured, sterlized and enslaved poor ancestors. Why censor him? The more you keep secret some some wrong doing of past in the name self-serving, romantic patriotism, the more it things get complicated for the future co-existent and understanding among diverse nationalities.

The least these victims expect from old school is acknowldegment and half-hearted apologies since you cannot afford to implement full apology ,which involves in three stages of (1) admission of wrong doing (2) showing sincere repentence about the crime and mideeds (3) redress or compensation in terms of progress policies such affirmative action, moniry and material and so forth.

That is why is lot of non-amhara asociated with Melez's ethnic scheme though dislik about it but not as much as the old timers. Their motto still remains stick with the lesser evil.

Jercher Habus said,

"Emperor Minelik II is probably the greatest African that has ever graced the continent. While the rest of Africa was colonised, he kept his nation free."

First the Ethiopia born Saudi billionaire should have bought the watch and donated to Ethiopian Museum for the pride of the Country. The country gave him so much.

1. Let me come to the poster that what made Menelik to be called the greatest person in African soil? Menelik refused to push the Italians out of Ethiopian soil despite the greatest hero warrior ever know African continent Ras Alula and his brave followers, Ras Hagos, Ras Mekonen and the Oromo people who were fighting bravely to destroy Italian forces once for all from our soil. The coward ness of Menelik left Ethiopia a chronic disease since that fatal decision day until today. The Italians could not have invaded us again in 1935 since they did not have base to bring the massive armaments and solders. The Eritrean issue could have been different today and the last 50 years.

2. Menelik was watching the Burning of Gonder and its churches and the Amhara people were massacred by the Mahdi Sudan. Instead of sending or coming with his armies to Gonder to meet enemy Mahdi Sudan to fight along side of King Yohannes, Menelik sent his mercenary spies to kill the Ethiopian King who was engaged Ethiopia enemy Mahdi Sudan to liberate the Amhara people and to save their sanctuary churches. Menelik was a traitor like Meles who chose power instead of his country first. Menelik gave “Alu Balta” reason to Meles to let Eritrea separate from Ethiopia to fool Ethiopians and became landlocked country and slave of Djibouti.

The kings was responsibe for selling our ports (Assab' Eritrea) and Djibouti for armies and hunger for power while King of kings Yohannes was fighing the Italians in Dogali, the Egyptians in zula and the Mahdist in mettema. If Alula Abanega and Hagos *what is his name" were great fighters, why didn't they simply go ahead and fight it out on their own. If I am not mistaken Alula was in charge of Asmara before the Italians made it their capital. I would assume, such a splendid fighter as Alula would be tempted to go ahead and free his "turf."

Minilek was a genius of both war and peace. He knew the strategic blunder that would have been the result had he followed the Italians with his hungry soldiers. (Note, there was nothing to eat in Adwa back then.)

He made a very strategic decision, for that he will be forever known as the Black Lion who defended his people SUCCESSFULLY.

As to the looting of Gonder, why didn't Alula, the "greatest general on earth" defend his master? He left his guy without a head, how come? Atse Minelik was not a king of kings back then and he is not expected to defend the whole nation without invitation. I am from Gonder and I have no problem with the way Minelik handled himself.

responsible for the victory of adwa
Adwa shows what can be achieved when united forces work for a common goal. Adwa brought the best out of so many forces that were accustomed to waging battles against each other. Forces of destruction and division ceased their endless squabbles and redirect their united campaign against the common enemy. They chose to redefine themselves as one and unequivocally expressed their rejection of colonialism. They came together in search of freedom or the preservation and expansion of the freedom at hand.

Such treasures should be kept in Ethiopia. After the fall of Woyane, the next regime will be nationalistic and patriotic because we can not afford to be ruled by anti-Ethiopia group like TPLF, OLF, ONLF, EPLF etc. They have to be eliminated

By installing a nationalist ethiopian government as is the case in USA, EU and many other countries, we will have a reconciliation among all ethinic groups and we will protectc our treasures and borders.

But cnsidering the trade-off I believe the king has done more posetive things than negative. One thing you should ask urself is what are you doing for your country. jercher habus,

lol man, you immediately sideline me with gomorro and are ready to shoot your arrows at both of us! You haven't read my response at all.

i felt the Gomorro's sorrow deeply but spoke about the greatness of Menelik -- and it was difficult time and the action he took was ok for that time -- for the sake of Ethiopia's unity, what is wrong with that?

Yet, there is a big mistake of Meneyelik anyway, also as he hasn't pushed the enemy off to the sea. This is our turmoil until now. You can't judge history sitting under a dwarf tree, lol as they say it in my country, under a chickpea shed. You can't. What I say is the Oromos and ill-grieved other ethnic groups should reconcile with their past and look head-up forward.

I haven't raised this you pushed me raise this. No body is absolute, Meneyilick included. But in-spite of their actions - bad/good - i like to show respect to our monarchs.

remain appreciative of your sensitivity to the Ethiopian nation. Others like Gomoro, Zara Yaqob, and Halafi have a right also to say their own opinion.

Do not forget that Towedros was not a normal diplomatic human being and he himself aligned from all Ethiopians by is MAD DOG actions towards his fellow Ethiopians.

During Towedrow reign there were many chiefs from Tigray, Wollo, Gojjam and Shewa. The question should be why any one of the chiefs either from Wollo, Gojjam, Shewa or Tigray did not help him????

The reason was he was the most hated human being by all chiefs and ordinary people of Ethiopia at that time. Gojjam, Shewa and Wollo are closer to Gonder and speak the same language and share identical culture but none of them came to help him and side with their own people of Amhara. I understand the mother of lie book from “Tewodros to Haile Sellassie history book” which was written by Amharu to boost Amhara and degrade Tigray and Tigray people. Anyway why Tigray (Yohannes) had to come to Tewodros rescue when his own people fellow Amhara chiefs like Yohannes Wollo, Gojjam and Shewa ignored him???

My advice to all Amharu is please drop the lie Ethiopian history book from Tewodros to Haile Sellassie and talk the truth and we all Ethiopians will have a common ground to discuss the country history.

As a king Tewdros was a brave king as well Yohannes but they all had strength and weaknesses. for instance Tewdros was the first king to unite Ethiopia from zemene mesafint and had a vision to made strong nation but his weakness was he made to many enemies the church, all Rses form Gojjam, Wello, Tigray and Shewa then everybody was eager to see the fall of Tewdros, finally the Britain missionaries werer the main cause for the Engish army to come to Ethiopia, Yohannes did not call the Brit's to attack Tewdros that was Tewdroses diplomatic failure and offcourse Ethiopian people were not behind him. Yohannes gave a "DIRECTION" to meqdela that was the only mistake that Yehonnes did but he did not gave an inche or piece of land to any Europeans. Unlike Mennilike Djebouti to French and Assab to Italians the Wicheale Treat. Saying that, the problem is know how can we come together and build the new democratic and srong Ethiopia equal for all weather you are from oromia, tigray, amhara, afar, somali or other we all are on the same boat if any of us goes down we all go down. Any attack to the oromos is attack on all of us, attack to the tigrians attack to all of us and attack to amaharas the same to all of us to survive as a nation all of us have to come together. We do have to many enemies Sudan, Egypt(Nile river) Eritrea and other. So we can not affored to tear each other. if i say any thing wrong i would like to take my correction.

Halafi Mengedi -

When Yohanes died at Metema, none of the regional governors came to his rescue. Even Alula his trusted war chief didn’t participate at the war of Metema. Do you think this justify your analogy of “no body came to help Tewodros in his final days“? I don’t think so. The fact is - time after time there was a power struggle among war lords, aristocrats and kings in every era of ancient Ethiopian history. Tewodros’s tenure was no different. What is different about Tewodros is - his righteous and relentless quest to rebuild Ethiopia and his success of forming the foundation of Ethiopia as we know it today. You need to understand the reality of the time. Tewodros used excessive force because there was excessive arrogance among his people and extreme selfishness with every regional chief. His untimely but noble call for unity, civilization, building a powerful Ethiopia and repossessing the occupied ports did not sit well in the egotistic minds of the regional war lords whose objective was triggered by the me first attitude. Yohanes was one of these war lords that his intense power hunger went all the way up to assisting a foreign army to over throw Tewodros so he can capture the entire kingdom to become king. This resembles with Menilik’s strategic decision not to help Yohanes at Metema for the same reason Yohanes used against Tewodros. The only distinction was Yohanes went to the level of supplying logistics and military assistance to Briton’s army which at the time was aiming to defeat Emperor Tewodros.

You claimed “The reason was he was the most hated human being by all chiefs and ordinary people of Ethiopia at that time”. If you have a little sense of Ethiopian or African history, you would have reserved yourself from making that kind of naïve statement. As the old saying goes “you have power you govern if you don’t you fail” this was the reality of that era. No king in Ethiopian history came to power by popular election. They used force to over take the crown and continued force to govern. Then, I don’t think Tewodros had to give a crap for the affection of his rivals. Yohanes used similar tactic during his epoch as well. In fact his drive to convert Muslims to Christianity by force and the swift and savage action against those who refused caused the killing of thousands of people in Wollo and some parts of Showa.

You said “I understand the mother of lie book from “Tewodros to Haile Sellassie history book” which was written by Amharu to boost Amhara and degrade Tigray and Tigray people. Anyway why Tigray (Yohannes) had to come to Tewodros rescue when his own people fellow Amhara chiefs like Yohannes Wollo, Gojjam and Shewa ignored him???”

For your info. History is fact. Fact can not be mended, altered, changed or fabricated. You can’t define history based on your version or fantasy. You approached the history of Ethiopia with your narrow tribal view of Amhara vs. Tigre. That is probably why you are having such troubled time to grasp the concept. I see it collectively as the history of one people and nation.

Meles is a traitor with low intellegence. Meles would have written world history had he not allowed the secession of Eritrea and brought back Djoubiti to Ethiopia. Meles should have trust in the ethiopian people. Meles Zenawi sems to live in incessant fear of the ethiopian people, who might one day stand up to the challenge of history.

Ethiopians should take control of their country. A revolution will be neede to do this.

Trying to hide this fact won't do any good for this generation. Everbody has the right to appreciate Minilik but that won't cover the atrocity he commited in Chelenko and Anole.

This king was one of the most babaric kings in the history of the empire. Some lunatics don't want to expose the wrong doings of this killer. We can even put him at par with Meles Zenawi in terms of the massacre he commited if not worse.

This is the truth, even though some pro Amhara chauvanists are not willing to accept it.

Millions? He must have an atomic bomb to be able to massacre millions at that time. The problem with OLF nationalists is two fold: one, they exaggerate everything. Two, they lie. Let me add a third point. They get their facts from their godfathers (you know who they are). You should know that Menilik's was a low-tech, 19th c. African army and its means of destruction was as backward as its means of production. Secondly, and yes this is very important, the commander-in-chief, his war ministers (two of them), and the majority of his foot-soldiers were ethnic Oromos. Let me guess: You are not.

Above all, I feel so so so sad for the younger generation of Ethiopians, the under 25 or so. They know so little. No MALELIT school is going to teach them true Ethiopian history. And if they dropped bye in here, so many lies are thrown, it is very confusing to even understand what is being said, for them. Sometimes, I feel we need a neutron bomb. Not nuclear, neutron, the one that will suffocate and wipe clean the so called humans, without damaging anything else. May be another people might come and settle in there, and put our remains in the museum. Here are the "beasts" who used to call themselves Ethiopians. Its a very very sad thing, sad generation.

I have found out that is was an absolute fiction. How the stroy came about was from few Oromos who wanted to exploit the Oromos for their own individual gain and to get power. They hate the king because he united the country and was loved and admired by the majority whose lives were at constant threath by foreign colonizers.

How are you doing my brother? I do remember you once said you come from Chore near Adama.
How is the main church there, kidus Lalibela? I think they also call it "Mikael." The tabot inside has an important history behind it. You see before that church, there was no Church consecrated for Kidus Lalibela in Shewa. It was always in Gondar/Tigray/Gojjam, and of course Wello. The man buried under the church, was the 'enderase' kind of Prime Minister in today's term of Haile Melekot, Menelik's father. He fought against Tewodros, and was exiled to Gondar with Menelik after they lost the battle against Tewodros. He was instrumental in the Emepror giving the hand of his daughter, Aletash,to Menelik. Then this man was also the one who successfully plotted the escape of Menelik from Mekedela fortress as the behaviour of the Emperor Tewodros was deteriorating. It was at that moment he collected this Ark from Wello/Lalibela and asked the Saint to help him in the escape of Menelik, that in return he will build a Church in the saint's name in SHEWA. The escape was successful, and as such he built the Church in your town. Now you know a little bit more about it.

It said "The Watch was a gift to Léon Chefneux in 1893 in recognition of his contribution to the implementation of Ethiopia's first railway line, which ran from Djibouti to Addis-Ababa."
That means it probably was out of country even when Menilik was alive. A gift is something to take home. It is a bit of history but there is no law which requires the recipient of a gift to keep it in Ethiopia.

And, it is the Tigres who ruined the country (Oromia) in less than 20 years more than the Amharas did in centuries. If you have any fake anger left or have the balls between your legs … you can take your vehemence to them. That would be a sensible move to pursue. Oromia and Oromos don’t need a whiney cry baby like you. Oromia means Ethiopia for all right reasons. If you think you were oppressed - be practical, use every means to capture Arat Kilo and take your turn to rule the whole enchilada. Why not? That’s what Amharas did and that’s what the Tigres are doing right now. As the majority and the economic power house, I think it is way over due for Oromos to run Ethiopia. Tulu,

I know, those who took time and listened to the wise words of their parents, grandparents, and elders tend to love their people and country. Those who never posed to do that, well, we see them in here daily, hateful, full of gura, quick to insult others, but above all take a whole group of people and condemn them for x, y, and z. I thank GOD, I never grew up like that, no matter how much a difficult childhood I had, most spent in Derg jail.

If you hear about the Church in Chore, let me know. I was curious if it is still in good condition. The guy buried underneath, I didn't mention his name before is Germamae. Actually he brought two tabots from Mekedela/Wello. One Lalibela, the other Na'Akuto Leabe. He was talking with Menelik about building the Church there, and Ato/Aba Demo Bunae and his wife were there too listening. Demo is the chief of Adaa, his grandfather Butaa, father of Bunae was the one who brought the Oromo from Arsi, in the late 1700s and settled them in what is today Adaa, one of the most valuable land in the whole country. Wetete yemesele teff yemibelabet. Later during Sahle Sellasie's days, Bunae gave his son Demo in marriage to the King's daughter, Kelemework Sahle Sellasie (aunt to Menelik). As I said earlier, Menelik and Germamae were talking about the Church in Chore. Aba Demo intervined and asked Germame to give him one of the tabots. Germamae replied his "selet" was that he will consecrate Churches by these new Saints in Shewa, and as such it will please him to give one to Aba Demo. He gave him Na'Akuto leabe's. Aba Demo took that and built a Church in Shenkora. Germamae took Lalibela and built the other Church in your home town. The day they escaped from Mekedela, Germamae lifted these two Tabots and carried them on his head, followed by about twenty or so of the most trusted officials of Menelik's father. They were sworn to such a secerecy, they did not even tell Menelik's uncle, Ras Darge. Who was later released by the English, after they defeated Tewodros.

I just wanted to let you know, what kind of treasure you are sitting on, smile. Ok, Zerayakob Yared, can you please count and tell me how many Malelit cadres hanged themselves past few minutes reading this? :))

Shewarega,

i don't want to hide myself, and beyond it to be sincere to you and to all our people in here, i found satenaw, in my short life of N.COM, for the first time as a likeble and future partner of us in our learn prosess. true, i found some times his choice of words a little bit harsh. but i can excuse him for i have read some days ago in the past here in N.Com, that he was a soldier. Also i can't understand why elcad is jumping on him more aggressively than any one of the participants.

Any way, me, i give him that much credit as me and you gave few days ago to that other sister of us.

Z Yared,

I understand what you are saying. But the point I was trying to make is, one, there is another satenaw in here, and Nazret allowing him to use this name is not correct/fair.

Second, noone can tell me about past grievances I know better than anyone every single thing that was done. But my beef against him was not for that, rather for his ugly insult against a certain group collectively. That is what made me decide he is yet another foot soldier of MALELIT.

Look at his last post..."debelo lebash chegaram Amharas" Why don't you replace the word Amhara with Tigrae, and read it again. It is these kind of people who are poisoning the younger generation, strangling our country to death. Believe me, I am all ears to listening at grievances, but wholesale condemnation of anyone, any group I will fight against til the end.

Shewarega,

Yes there is a basical problem in this N.COM about their terms and condition:

I am also reading every day: ChIGARAM, QIMALAM, QITCHAMAM, QULQUAL, ANBETTA, FUNFUN(YEMITEYEFUT), LISTRO,KEDAMIT, YEQEY MEBRAT LIJ, LEMAGN and many other endless QITSILS @@@@gameee (TIGRE)
this and this ISLAM, that and that orthodox
......AMARA, .....GURAGE and also other things to the other ethnics !

May be N.COM is interessted only about$$. So if you don't want those street boys and DURIYE LANGUAGE, then we have to look all together for a cultivated political language !

But that central point of Satenaw "go to thE HOTTEST HELL if you are not willing to accept the equality of all nations and nationalities in the empire." is so worthfull, that i have to support it !

Thanks bro. !
