kewel,
don't be negetive, it's all about updating ethiopians with what's happening in ethiopia and ethiopian air line is one of the most isential wealths of ethiopians that we need to keep an eye on. remember if we expand our air line busness we can conpensate our luck of sea port by importing most of our small to medium cargos by air which makes import export much quiqer and efficient. but that is not to say we will rest until we secure our right to our well desrved right to access to the sea. by all means!

Gergud and Shewa Abessa seems did not understand the whole thing. one was regarding the delivery of dreamliners it was due to boeings delay, not because the airline did not need them. We are forced to prolong the deadline of delivery till 2009. The only thing bit funny is why instead of 767 or 777 they choose small haul aircraft like this 757. The passenger load has increased dramatically except the salary of the employees. I have observed on my last trip to homeland the airline staffs at Bole some of them are not passenger friendly which compared to other Airlines they look inferior. They need a lot of training and character change with strict supervisions.

Those B757s are bigger than 737 and smaller than 767 or 777 and come handy for medium and shorter range flights. Most ET flights fall into that category

This is one of the short term strategies to tackle the problems in disparity between supply and demand. Our Airline's (our Identity)operation is growing beyond the horizon despite the current termoil in the Global Industry where most of the mega carriers are either laying off their staff and/or reducing their schedule of frequencies and also grounding their Aircrafts in large numbers. Ethiopian Airlines will continue to fly high and represent the people who love Ethiopia no matter what political differences exist in between them. Ethiopian Airlines is the fruit and result of its dedicated and devoted STAFF even though they are not paid well...they protect their DREAMs hoping that one day will come to compensate their sacrifies...we love ET...we love ETHIOPIA..nothing personal..be a true Citizen to your homeland....Ye enat tut nekash mohon aygebam....

shewa anbesa, the airplane is landing. Airplanes fly from one destination and they land on their scheduled destination. Under the plane you can see the RUNWAY which planes use to fly and land.

It would have been better if Ethiopian leased some 777s instead of 757s until the 787s are delivered.

Boeing is late on its delivery for the first time, instead of Seattle the 787 parts are built all over the world. Boeing is trying to save money I guess like many American companies who go offshore.

Bole, it is not only the range of the ariplane but it depends on the number of passenger an airline gets on a particular route. In Asia for example Singaore or Thai airways use the Boieng 747 on short haul from Bangkok to Hongkong. If the economic condition of Africans grow African airlines will grow as well jut like the Asians. Compared to 20 twenty years ago Africans are now traveling a lot though.

I agree with those of you who suggested that ET should lease 777s. ET has some high density routes, but they cant serve those routes properly due to the lack of capacity. Moreover ET would create itself great opportunity by opening up a US route through west Africa. Currently west Africans dont use ET to fly to their countries because the flight time is rediculasly long. Most of all if they lease 777s they will be coming close to their biggest rival in Africa, Kenya Airways(KQ) which OWNS SEVERAL B777s. and has SEVERAL B787 on order!

Let be realistic the airlines does not have the capacity and the means to use 747 or 777 on its entire route. At this time ET can increase it’s frequency of the flights rather than flying mostly empty 747s. The 757 give it that flixebililty. This is not EMIRATES airlines - subsidized by oil money - we talking about. Our Airlines is out there to make a profit.
When the business warrants wider body airlines then we will be ready to jump to 787s which 10 of them are in the pipeline.

I am not that impressed because the B757 are now somewhat outdated. However, it is possible that there was nothing better available it the market concidering the abrupt delay of the B787s.

Dear Gergud.
Sometimes leasing is a better choice than purchasing because costly items might be technologically obsolete and worth lesser than their depreciated residual value. In other words instead of being stuck with worthless planes after some years it is better to lease. So no conspiracy here/

Leasing is also a good option if the number of passengers flying should decrease all you need to do is return the extra planes to the owner as opposed to getting stuck with costly airplanes, like a lot of US airline whose airplanes are stored away in Arizona desert.
