First Offshore IT Outsourcing Center in Ethiopia Opened by eVentive

CHICAGO and ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/
-- eVentive, LLC, a Chicago-based IT consulting and outsourcing firm, has announced the opening of its offshore IT outsourcing center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The outsourcing center, the first of its kind in the region, became operational with the graduation of the first class of Ethiopian consultants from eVentive's exclusive training program.

Addis Ababa, a thriving metropolis of nearly 3 million, offers a large workforce of English-speaking IT professionals. One major advantage that Addis Ababa offers over other outsourcing destinations is its 8 hour time difference with US Central time. This provides a significant daily window for live communications. At the national level, the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has targeted Information Technology and Communications (ITC) as one of its top 5 priorities for development, which has resulted in significant investments in ITC infrastructure. As an emerging economy, Ethiopia offers cost advantages that cannot be matched by many countries that provide offshore IT outsourcing services.

eVentive's outsourcing center is poised to contribute to the rapidly growing Ethiopian economy by offering IT consulting and outsourcing services to U.S. and Ethiopian companies. eVentive's BlueNile(TM) offshoring methodology ensures project success by combining U.S.-based project management with highly trained Ethiopian resources. eVentive's Ethiopian consultants undergo a rigorous training program, BlueNile SED(TM). The 5-week program has been adapted for Ethiopia, and develops a balance of high-level technical and business skills.

This is very good news. The beauty of knowledge is that it can be cheap especially in the age of IT and is a powerful factor in liberating societies from ignorance and all its resultants.

Let us be hopeful.

That is what am talking about….
Believe me,... if we keep investing in our IT infrastructures (10 % of GDP now). It will paid back in no time. We should take a lesson from India's knowledge based economy. We 80 million people are the natural resource for our future economy.

"Rapidly growing Ethiopian economy" it is what it is!. I am ecstatic about my countries accelerating progressive development in every aspects of social aspersions and business wise infrastructure, that is precisely showing the world Ethiopia my country is, well alive and kicking. Well!!!well! Now, to those of you, with a negative stigma, and back ward thinking diaspora, your days of accusations and a consistent low blow insult on our country, people and the Government, unfortunately for you, will soon come to an end. Because Ethiopia, its populous and the Government are proving you wrong and wrong, time and again. The truth never dies, it only gets side tracked and chastised, by those who knows, no decency, pride, tranquility, humility, nationalism and who lucks a sense of directions.

I for see Ethiopia headed to a destiny of it's past historical facts and good dids, amongst the few great nations to it's unsurpassed standings as a cradle, of a foundation of humanity and human ancestry and values of ethics, morality and all denomination of christianity, Judaism and Islam.
Nothing like her, Ethiopia the beautiful, with your people of elegance, dignity, known to the world by their looks, decency, and kindness.

I LOVE YOU ETHIOPIA and MY PEOPLE!! May we call him GOD or ALLAH, he is there with you day and night, though no one may look at you the wrong way, let alone attacking you. You are protected and sealed for no one to harm you, for there is no power, but him the all mighty GOD.

People

Don't be so exciting limiting your being only up to this level. Take it as it is one of the many positive steps we are going to achieve to reach towards where our forefathers were back thousands years. It in our blood. We are the one of the leading Africans and at that matter world nations in history with many ways.
The birthplace of human being and the first human civilization back hundreds thousands years a go making tools from wood, stone, bon and the likes. We have the first famous queen before anybody else did. We have the oldest written materials, draws and the likes that all blacks need to be proud of it. We have the only Alphabet representing and belongs to all blacks and is categorised, as one of the few precious world heritage which is need to be protected and prosper. Look at axsum. Look as lalibella. Look at Gonder’s casteless. Look at your country natural gifts. We are not followers but leaders back from history.
Of course the last 20+ years were bad that gave opportunity to others who are jealous on us to undermine us. But we are we were and we will be as we were back thousands years a go in world map. The past 20+ years became a perfect catalyst calling us to shape our future the right way. Be proud on ourselves. Don’t be weak and reluctant to confront those stupid and bastard using so called Ethnic or religion to affect us. Look at us. Don’t we all look the same and beautiful and handsome?

21-century will be the century to all Ethiopians more than anybody else. Brave Ethiopians will continue working with important nations only based on for the Ethiopian interest. Brave Ethiopians also will continue boldly and on time confronting those nations that are looking and creating wrong and false reasons to stop our progress.

By the way I admire the govt move towards the Norway embassy. Norway is one of the three Scandinavian countries(denmark and sweeden) keeping their bloody eyes on Ethiopia for long time. The reason, No body knows.

I am happy to see that most of you are excited about this news. Unfortunately, You have no idea the reality on the ground (in Ethiopia). The only thing this company, eVentive, will be doing is selling computers or do some minor software development work for local companies, which other companies doing right now. No company in the U.S will outsource its IT work to Ethiopia with its current infrastructure as it is. We have a long way to go before that can be a reality. My people! I am not trying to be negaive here..I am just stating the facts as it is today. Do not be fooled by one news wire. Let's all wish great for our nation; however, it does not help to exaggerate on something we do not and won't have for a while to come. Gog Bless Ethiopia!

Take it as one step toward the ultimate goal. All long voyages are start with the first step. Are you expecting Microsoft to come to Addis and make a business as this time? No--but it shall happen very soon and the first step has already been taken.

Cheers!

First of all, a heartfelt thanks to all of you for your positive response to our announcement. Your support will be very welcome to our employees in Ethiopia. As a ferengi who has been part of this effort, and who has spent time in Addis to ensure that this was able to occur, I can assure you that we will not ONLY be "selling computers or do some minor software development work for local companies". In fact, we are proud to say that we are now doing work for American AND local companies. We fully intend to grow our business BOTH in the US and Ethiopia. We've created jobs in Addis, we will continue to do so, and WE HAVE NO INTENTION OF LETTING OUR PEOPLE DOWN.

The best that you can all do to help us make this successful is to SPREAD THE WORD. Digg this article, email it, let your American friends and co-workers know that WE ARE HERE.

Once again, thank you all for your support.

I hate to be negative, but isn't this a little bit exagerated? " Addis, a thriving metropolis of english- speaking IT professionals". This more likely sounds like Mumbay than my Addis abeba. Let us be in line with reality.

If it is a small step, that is fine because it is a step forward. If this turns out to be a big step, that will be a gret thing. Let us rejoice because some good things are happening in our Ethiopia and avoid trashing all that is good because it happened during the current government. For those of us who enjoy only bad news to come from Ethiopia, don't worry yopu may get your wish soon enough because many of our own brothers are working hard to feed you that kind of information. Check ethiopianreview.com and you will get your full daily.
Long live united and progressing Ethiopia.

May God help us to differentiate between being negative and being realistic. As an IT Professional in the U.S., It is my dream for more companies like eVentive to go and spread IT in Ethiopia. On the other hand, as an Ethiopian who spent four years in Ethiopia and researched the state of IT Infrastructure ..and actually assessed the IT skill on the ground..I say pardon me for being a bit skeptical!
