Press Release

CALL TO ACTION!!!

STAND UP FOR LIBERTY, AND AMERICA WILL STAND WITH YOU!
George W. Bush

WORLDWIDE 100,000 LETTERS-IN-TEN-DAYS CAMPAIGN TO STOP HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN ETHIOPIA AND PASS H.R. 5680

The White House
Prof. Alemayehu G. Mariam today called Ethiopian Americans and other Ethiopians throughout the world to begin a campaign to deliver 100,000 letters in the next 10 days to the White House and express appreciation to President Bush for his promise: “All who live in tyranny and hopelessness can know: the United States will not ignore your oppression, or excuse your oppressors. When you stand for your liberty, we will stand with you.” He also urged all freedom-loving Ethiopians to ask the President to support H.R. 5680 in their letters.

In a passionate letter to the President, Prof. Alemayehu described the dire human rights situation in Ethiopia. He suggested to the President that there are two kinds of Ethiopians in the world today, “those who live with dignity, respect and hope in the free world, and millions who live in their homeland seared in the flames of withering tyranny and oppression.”

He told the Coalition for HR 5680 that “Ethiopian Americans have a special duty to stand up for human rights in Ethiopia because they have the constitutional right to demand their tax dollars not be used to support a ruthless dictatorship.” He asked, “if we in America, with all our liberties fail to stand up for the human rights of those we left behind in Ethiopia, who will stand up for them? It is not fair to expect Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and the other human rights organizations do the heavy lifting while we stand on the sidelines with folded arms. The old saying is still true: ‘God helps only those who help themselves.’”

Commenting on the supposed relationship between terrorism and human rights that the Ethiopian regime has been trying to establish, Prof. Alemayehu wrote the President, “You should rest assured that Ethiopians will never abandon America in its struggle against global terror. Never! Never! Never! But, Mr. President, America must also never, never, never abandon the cause of human rights in Ethiopia.”

Asking the President to support H.R. 5680, Prof. Alemayehu wrote, “Mr. President, in the words of the great American civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, in H.R. 5680, America offers Ethiopia a promissory note for $20 million in down payment to promote freedom, democracy and human rights. But instead of accepting and cashing this note in the bank of democracy and human rights, the present rulers in Ethiopia have hired a mighty army of lobbyist to defeat the bill, thereby extinguishing forever the yearning for freedom of the Ethiopian people.”

Prof. Alemayehu asked every freedom-loving Ethiopian Americans and Ethiopians to write a personal letter and ask President Bush to support H.R. 5680. He urged all Ethiopians committed to justice and human rights to write letters of their own, or endorse his letter with their signatures and send it to the President.

He concluded by stressing the importance of engaging the American people: “I make a personal plea to all Ethiopians throughout the world to write the President a letter, but I plead with Ethiopian Americans to get their friends, neighbors, friends, church members, co-workers, classmates and others to join in our struggle for human rights in Ethiopia. Let us ask them to write letters of support on behalf of our cause -- the cause of freedom, democracy and human rights.”

SEND YOUR LETTERS TO:

The Honorable George W. Bush
President of the United States
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave, NW
Washington, DC 20500

When are these CUD activists going to learn that Western governments are incapable of influncing a court hearing through intimidation and pressure? Bush is in deep s*** himself and would hardly get intersted about a court hearing in Addis. The fact of the matter is the court should hand tougher sentences so the victims of these criminals, the Tigray people - that is, would heal their wounds.

Dear all,

Do you know that the so-called Judge, Adil Ahmed was/is a good friend and spiritual guru for one of the London bombers Yisak Hamdi? (Hamdi is the one who evaded arrest in the UK, fled to Italy, before his eventual arrest by the Italian Police).

After graduating from the infamous civil college in Ethiopia, Judge Adil Ahemed, (Tegaday or Tagay Ahemed) was ushered to London by the Tigre wonbedes to study law. While he was in London, sharing a "flat" with the London bombers, "Judge Adil Ahemed" showed his extreme dislike to “Christian Ethiopia” in many ways. According to close friends, he’s long-term ambition is to set up a shariya-law and see the disintegration of Ethiopia.

Many Londoners who knows this individual (Judge Adil Ahmed) believes, he is by far the worst extremist than his disciple and London bomber Yishak Hamdi. Is this the man who delivers justice to the people of Ethiopia? I don’t think so!!

MI6 and the CIA should check-out this fanatical Muslim and terrorist, who happen to be a Supreme Court judge in lawless country called Ethiopia.

Dear all,

Since long time the blind AAPO/CUD advocates such as Prof. Alemayehu G. Mariam waged smear campaign to portray the present day Ethiopia and its democratic and political systems.

The main responsibility of these individuals is to devise a strategy and blue prints that would take them to the state power in shortest time possible without considering what will happen in the process.

In this regard since long time the extreme hardliners in Diaspora have been working hard to look for different kinds of wrong, irrelevant and undesirable methods of taking power such as Rose, Orange, ?, Revolutions, civil disobedience, earth shaking revolt, stay-at-home strikes.

Their other task is to promote the personality of the extremist and hard-line politicians in Ethiopia and abroad to the western government and international institutions and human right groups by describing them as the true sons and daughters of Ethiopia.

Consistently they blame the West for their own failure of taking the state power legally and/or illegally. They blame President George Bush, PM Tony Blair, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and so on so forth.

Despite their fruitless pleas and "Open letter to ?" the West is responding appropriately by identifying the strength and weakness of each party in the Ethiopian political system.

Even if the western governments were to respond to the hard-line AAPO/CUD advocates, any one should understand the very fact that by what Prof. Alemayehu says what he says and writes what he writes, these few disgruntled individuals are not helping the peace and development of Ethiopia.

In fact contrary they are creating challenges to the growth of our fledgling democracy BUT thankfully Prof. Alemayehu attempt is just a fantasy as he and the like could not possibly change the federal system – even if they bark for the next millennia.

I love to read meaningful thoughts.

I appreciate your An ultimate effort for the peace of people, how ever, writing a letter to President of USA is not enough we have to pray to God. With out his permission nothing will not change. God can change things with in a second; if we together the old and the young; men and women together have to write our people horrible life letter to God is the easiest way. Moses the Israel split the red sea, the Jericho compound is changed by God permission.
Ethiopia and Israel can not go for ward a single steep with out God. Let us back to our conscious. Unity parties you have to inform religious leaders to appeal to God. You guys the change is from the Lord who shake the world everyone human they do not have shelter to hide themselves. Where is our faith who do not save as from this goods for nothing? Let us be together spent one minute and ask God we will see the result. You guys are waiting four, five another years of term election, but if we get together it doesn’t take that much. When the Israelites did not obey the lord he gave them king Soul who kick their head like snake while they back to God he gave them King David lord say to him my heart.
But today’s’ leaders they pass through human blood they will pay for it for all single action.
How we wanna see peace and comfort while we are sinners rude and the servant of money rather than God and truth? You will see more, you will see more, you will see more terrible, horrible, terrified ..........situation unless we return to the almighty God.
Do not be foolish having God is greatness rather than asking a powerful leader.
We have one issue peace for our people; we get together appeal to God in different religious group we will get it the answer immediately otherwise spent time why international organization consider it immediately the Master mind and great people jelling in unclean prison? Why they free them in prison while 99.9% people chose them?
Keep it up with the Lord loud your voice to God not to Man who disappear tomorrow. Power is destroyed by power but by the lord it lives forever.
God bless my people and the world

Thank you pro.ALEMAYEU G/MARIAM

We the people of ethiopia will write and notify to the president of the united states and other leaders around the world the cruelty and uncivilaized character of the stalin based TEGREY/ERITREAN government of ethiopia. sample of my letter

In mankind's history, the understanding of the government's proper function is a very recent achievement: it is only two hundred years old and it dates from the founding fathers of the american revolution. Not only did they identify the nature and the needs of a free society, but they devised the means to translate it into practice. A free society like any other human product cannot
be achieved by random means, by mere wishing or by the incomptent leaders" so called good tribal intention" A complex legal system, based on objectively valid principles, is requried to make a society free and to keep it free- a system that does not depend on the motives, the moral character or the intentions of any undemocratic oficials, a system that leaves no opportunity,no logal loophole for the development tyranny.

The american system of checks balances was just such an achievement, the incomparable achievement was the concept of a constitution as a means of limiting and restricting the power of the government. today, when a concerted effort is made to obliterate this point,it cannot be repeated to often that the conduct of private individuals that it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the condut of government, that is not a charter for government power, but a charter of citzens protection against the undemocratic officals.

Now cosider the extent of moral and political inversion in today's prevalent view government. Instead of being a protector of man'rights the TEGRE/MELESE govenment is becoming most dangerous violators; instead of guarding freedom, the TPLF head hunters is establishing slavery; instead of protecting our men and women from the initiators of physical force, the TEGRE looters raping, tourchering our elite educted and officialy elected leaders by initiating physical force and coercion in any manner and issue it pleases; Instead of serving as the instrument of unity of objectivity, among ethiopian citzens, the disturbed government is creating a deadly tribal segragation, subterranean reign of uncertainty and fear by means of nonobjective laws whose interpretation is left to arbitrary decisions of random to the TEGRE savages and intelectual GYPSIS.

Thank you
GOD bless ETHIOPIA & AMERICA.

Weyane foot soldiers like Zena are forgetting that if not for American diplomatic & financial support Melese would be some where in exile. Meles's doesn’t have any choice but follow the family backgrouond of bandanet. He completely depends on the outside support. Ask your self why Meles never gives a public speach, or go out & mingle among the people. He doesn't have any popular base in Ethiopia including Tigray. He is a leader who sold his country & sole for the benefit of him self & his internal & external supporters. He doesn't value the country's history & doesn't care to make a good history for himself. His sense of history is living today in any means necessary, by killing people, selling ones sole, betraying friends, etc. This is a distinct identity of a banda. So wayane foot soldiers, our 100K letters to Pres. Bush & others will make a difference. Keep paniccking!! Follow Ethiopians who are still supporting the democratic ambition of our people, please copy, endorse & send to Pres. Bush Prof. Alemayehu's latters. Don't be discouraged by weyane foot soldiers!

Dear Yoman,

I read your comment with interest and you can call me what you like. I however, stand for what I belive is the right thing.

Your biased and one sided story does not hold any water. Shall I remind the very fact that Ethiopia have been in war with monstrous and regime like Mengistu which was doing its best to rule by force – until the gallant youth of Ethiopia raised their arms and crashed the dictator.

Yet the hypocrite AAPOs with the new name CUD comes along and attempting to impose their rotten agenda in the disguised name of Ethiopian Nationalism.

Don’t you remember the very fact that: the prime culprit among the causes for most of the turmoil Ethiopia experiencing was the unequal distribution of power and the lack of check and balance that prevents one group from dominating over the other as that was the case during the Haile Selassie and the Dergue era.

For our mother land to genuinely develop, most of the historical dirty linen like AAPo and CUD must be washed clean to build a stronger Ethiopia.

Certain incontrovertible facts have already been exposed and must be eradicated in order to find the right cure for the disease that is afflicting Ethiopia.

I conclude by saying: God save Ethiopia from such hypocritical persons like yourselves.

My Gut feeling tells me that you guys are GOOD for NOTHING but to spread hate and say something for the sake of it.

Regards, Zena

The speech that every body remmemmber that america will stand with youg emerging democracy is not follwed thought.

The speech should say if any body help us to defeat our enemy we are with you wether you are adictator or not.

We all heard it wrong we all hoped it was the J.F kennedy speech no it is not J.F.K speaking it G.W.Bush this time.

We have to relay on our people participation, struggle ,indurance and dream to fulfill the dream to achive lasting democracy in Ethiopia.

In our part we have to educate our self and our public about democracy and their right in participation in democracy. They have to chose and look for their true leaders during this difficult time.

I don't think Bush gonna read your letters.First, he dosen't want to read, second, he has no time to read. So rather than sending a letter to G.W.Bush, let's try to solve our problem by ourselves. It is easier to send the letter to Meles than Bush. At least you can get some offensive reponse. But the content of the letter should be modified to show that Meles is smart, briliant, etc. (Whatever is the truth ). you know if we appreciate first, we may be able to get what we need.

By the way, I do not support any specfic political party. I don't believe that CUD is absolutley doing the right thing and EPRDF is absolutely wrong. We ethiopians need to analyse things and find the truth. We don't have to be emotional in any reason. Especially I don't like to hate people because of their ethnicity becuse ethinicity is not something that we gain it by our willingness and intellegence rather it is in born. Therefore I belive that people should not be criticised because of their ethinc group.

In general let's find out what is better for Ethiopia focousing on startegeies and plans rather than emotion and hating each other.

God bless all Ethiopians.

Kokeb, America followed/follows strictly its national interest. The Professor should know this very fact better than you and me. What is the purpose of such an open letter? Well, obviously, it impressed you. If such a letter is at all relevant, don’t you think addressing the speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi would make more sense? Just for your info, the professor’s intention was, to write a personal "and ask President Bush to support H.R. 5680. He urged all Ethiopians committed to justice and human rights to write letters of their own, or endorse his letter with their signatures and send it to the President." Now, read your sample letter and let me know if it fulfills the professor's intentions. If you did not send your letter yet, you better let the president know why you are writing and ask him to endorse H.R.5680. The advice is for free. Paraphilia, you wrote. Wau, you must be a very wise man. Do you have any personal preference? Python, Very astute for a snake! You got the point dude. Zena, It is unfortunate that you excuse TPLF/EPRDF's atrocities & anti-Ethiopian deeds because Mengistu & HS were bad. Being against bad doesn't make one good. Please stop finding ridiculous excuses for TPLF. It is TPLF who is denying democracy to the people who were oppressed under HS & Mengistu by imposing on them its stooges as leaders. We really deserve good, patriotic leaders like CUD leaders now in prison. We don't deserve selfish, undemocratic dictators like Meles/TPLf. We shall overcome!

Mr Bush, First I would like to apologize for these brainwashed DIRG (diaspora internet rebel group)
these people are so ditached from reality they are begining to show signs of scitsofrania and paranoia,
Mr Bush the best way to deal with crazy people is in a loony bin and thats where you should send them

“Ethiopian Americans have a special duty to stand up for human rights in Ethiopia because they have the constitutional right to demand their tax dollars not be used to support a ruthless dictatorship.”

these people don't even pay tax half of them illigal aliens and half hire illegal aliens so as not to pay tax
all these DIRGS are x mafia and x dictator butt kissers
who fled Ethiopia 20 to 30 years ago not to face persecution from the real Ethiopian,.
Mr Bush the real Ethiopians are happy back home we don't want no bill to pass and I suggest fro your safty I would silence these people before they do more damage to you and your country.

P.S if you can deport them back to Ethiopia so they can face up to there crimes like their compatriots at Kaliti

THANK YOU MR PRESIDENT
A CONCERNED ETHIOPIAN

Dear Fair,

Your pen-name said it all i.e. "Fair".

I fully agreed when you wrote "... I don't believe that CUD is absolutely doing the right thing and EPRDF is absolutely wrong"

As this is my personal believe as well. As you may have noticed from some lunatics squabbles, if you-do-not agree with their line of thought - you become an enemy to them.

This is precisely where we Ethiopians go wrong. As we all know, Ethiopia is populated by above 70 million people - we are therefore bound to have different opinions with different line of thinking too.

Unfortunately, however, with some - especially in the Diasporas conversing on the matter of national interest is just a dead end - unless, you agree 100% on what they advocate.

Although it sad there are others (like yourselves) who are capable of putting their point across regardless of ones political biases – which is blessing really.

Regards, Zena

Zena, Ante Asmesay Banda, your "Abbay Tigray" stand is well-known and documented. Everyone in here knows that you are a sold-out wonbede. Your anti-Ethiopia remarks that you have been scrabbling for years and your action speaks volumes. Now you want to preach us what? Asmesay Shifta!

I want to jog your memory that it is a historical occurrence we are born into this or that ethnic group. We did not earn our ethnicity. But the country where ours and our ancestors' umbilical cords are buried is our motherland with which we proudly identify ourselves. On May 15, 2005 the people of Ethiopia repudiated your master Meles Zenawi's Ethnic Apartheid regime. The only thing that is popular in Ethiopia today is Etiopiawinet, contrary to what the Tigre fascist’s hallucination. Down with ethnocentrism! Down with Tigre Apartheid regime

Advice to friend and foe alike.
Try to get the facts straight from dependable sources, for example, such as the World Bank representative to Ethiopia. Read his interview with Addis Fortune. You may or may not agree with some of his views, but Ishac Diwan, country representative to Ethiopia and Sudan, is a seasoned CEO of high calibre. He has a through knowledege of the country and he does know a couple of things which you, my esteemed friends and some of my adversaries may not have an inkling about. He has quite a balanced view of realities on the ground, a character that is hard to come by in Little (very minute) Ethiopia.
Here then is the link.
