Ethiopia regulators banned Chinese company's marketing strategy

The Ethiopian Drug Administration and Control Authority (DACA) has banned Tiens Ethiopia's network marketing system, the company's primary method of distributing its supplementary foods.
Tiens Group, a multinational conglomerate owned by a Chinese businessman, opened its local branch, Tiens Ethiopia Business Plc, in 2007 to import and distribute its well-known supplementary food capsules and powders in Ethiopia.

The main issue is, in this day and age where a free marketing is allowed people will take any major to promote their products and make proffit. Especially aggressive marketing is popullar and allowed. DACA the Ethiopian version of FDA in the US, is doing a great job of controling these marketing firms.
To day two people were excuted in china for selling a tainted milk powder for children,just for the sake of making proffit disregarding the health and safty of the public. Good job DACA.

Do you remember the melamine ( milk additive) scandal that resulted in the death of about 6 chinese babies and sickened thousands?

This same additive can be added to protein supplements to exaggerate the content of protein itself. So if you have ingested anything from China that has protein in it....see your doctor I mean "Tena Tabia" worker..

Ethiopian government, however, should only let Kinijit / MDREK members to have access to the Chinese supplementary foods.

These dumb Chinese would do any thing to make money. I live in Toronto and work in the residential construction business, time after time i come across Chinese "builders" doing work with out inspection and below code. Their attitude is any thing to make profit no matter what the health and enviromental risk.
The Ethiopian government should keep a close eye on Chinese imports.

After permitting the company, these experts of all remembered that they forgot something. And banned it. They tell you :
"...Importation of the supplementary foods was allowed by DACA a year ago, but the network marketing system is not permitted by the authority..."
Did they expect the company to hand over to them and so they would trade with it?
In the following part of the news something is hidden. I think the product was meant for some areas or... It might be tried on some people. Why is it localized? Are there other competitor companies...or...?
"Tiens Ethiopia Business Plc is allowed to import and distribute its registered products and supplementary foods only in particular outlets and by licensed companies, DACA's authentication letter provided to the company in April 2009 states. However, the company's products are not only found in the specified shops, said a source at DACA, explaining the ban..."

If I have to blindly gues,someone in the department knows or feels something something is wrong about this so called supplementary foods. But couldn't risk by revealing it. So, is tring his/her best to stop it.

Good for you Ethiopian Drug Administration and Control Authority. Any countries should not trash their garbage in another country. Ethiopian side, it is the sign of development. China could be a good friend of Ethiopia for whatever reason, but China should not permitted selling the wrong medicine to Ethiopia. They should do things as a friend not to take advantage over Ethiopia.

Safety comes first, when we consider using anything.

However, without a proof causing a quarel to China's investment in Ethiopia doesn't sound a good manner. As we all know North-America & Europeans are jealous(negative) on chinas present in Africa. But, if Chinese follows the European previous administrations against Africa, the consequences will be a diszster.

Therefore, instead of switching around; from Russia to America to Europe to China and going around back and forth; be your self. Make your own rule and obey it.
