Ethiopia's Zemen bank introduces electronic banking

By Yohannes Anberbir

Ethiopia's Zemen Bank successfully introduced its pioneering one branch Multi-Channel Banking services this week. The event marks a shift away from the traditional approach of a branch-based banking service.

Even though some of the branch-based banks are offering electronic banking as well, Zemen's introduction of automated teller machines (ATM), internet banking, telephone banking and SMS banking at one time is exceptional.

"Customers are not required to come physically to our bank; we will go to our customers," Ermias Amelga chairman of the bank said on Thursday.

The bank has already installed three ATMs in its headquarters, which offer services in both English and Amharic. The bank received over 600 million in deposits within a one year period of being in business. Soon, all of its customers will be able to manage their accounts using an ATM card.

Hope they get fresh Birr in circulations or else them smelly worn-out Birrs with Scotch tape around them might jam the ATM machines :))

congratulations Zemen!! This is great achievement. I hope others, including the lazy commercial bank of Ethiopia, will follow suit. we should also be using credit cards in Ethiopia. Dashen has already giving visa card but there are only handful of business places accepting it. I want to use my Master Card in Ethiopia during my next vacation, Please; seriously:!:

AL-Mariam looks like the only philospoher if not visionary who can be read as Sibhat Gebregzabher. Every bullshit is non-sense since 1992. Meles Zenawi is by far better Bomb Ras and bit philosopher, but unfortunately Gun Head.

I am asking more than 25 brands of used and certified cars from fine automakers to be opened up in Ethiopia for less than 10,000 USD, even starting at 7,000 USD. Even GHana has + BRand New BMW assembly.

That's hoe we do.

Period!
