On March 1, 1896 Ethiopia dealt a major blow to European colonization by defeating the Italian army in the Battle of Adwa. Today we celebrate the victory of our forefathers who fought bravely and kept Ethiopia Free.
Menelik II, our founding father of Modern Ethiopia, is one of the most admired and beloved Ethiopian leader. Below is a reading on the Battle of Adwa from Wikipedia.

Happy Victory Day and God Bless Ethiopia.

The Battle of Adwa

Source: Wikipedia

As the twentieth century approached, Africa had been carved up between the various European powers, with the exception of the tiny republic of Liberia on the west coast of the the continent and the ancient kingdom of Ethiopia in the strategic Horn of Africa. A relative newcomer to the colonial scramble for Africa and having been left with only two impoverished territories on the Horn (Eritrea and Somalia), Italy sought to improve its position in Africa by conquering Ethiopia, which would join its two territories. Italy and Ethiopia faced off in the First Italo-Ethiopian War. After advancing deep into Ethiopian territory, the Italians were forced to withdraw to defensible positions in Tigray, where the two armies faced each other.

By late February 1896, supplies on both sides were running low. General Oreste Baratieri, commander of the Italian forces, knew the Ethiopian forces had been living off the land, and once the supplies of the local peasants were exhausted, Emperor Menelik's army would begin to melt away. However, the Italian government insisted that General Baratieri act. On the evening of 29 February, Baratieri met with his brigadiers Matteo Albertone, Giuseppe Arimondi, Vittorio Dabormida, and Giuseppe Ellena, concerning their next steps. He opened the meeting on a negative note, revealing to his brigadiers that provisions would be exhausted in less than five days, and suggested retreating, perhaps as far back as Asmara. His subordinates argued forcefully for an attack, insisting that to retreat at this point would only worsen the poor morale.[2] Dabormida exclaiming, "Italy would prefer the loss of two or three thousand men to a dishonorable retreat." Baratieri delayed making a decision for a few more hours, claiming that he needed to wait for some last-minute intelligence, but in the end announced that the attack would start the next morning at 9:00.[3] His troops began their march to their starting positions shortly after midnight.

The Italian army comprised four brigades totalling 17,700 troops, with fifty-six artillery pieces.[4] However, it is likely that even fewer men were on the Italian side: Harold Marcus notes that "several thousand" soldiers were needed for support and to guard the lines of communication to the rear, so he estimates the Italian army to have consisted of 14,500 effectives.[5] One brigade under General Albertone was made up of Eritrean askari led by Italian officers. The remaining three brigades were Italian units under Brigadiers Dabormida, Ellena and Arimondi. While these included elite Bersaglieri, Alpini and Cacciatori units, a large proportion of the troops were inexperienced conscripts recently drafted from metropolitan regiments in Italy into newly formed battalions for service in Africa[6].

As Chris Prouty describes:

They [the Italians] had inadequate maps, old model guns, poor communication equipment and inferior footgear for the rocky ground. (The newer Remingtons were not issued because Baratieri, under constraints to be economical, wanted to use up the old cartridges.) Morale was low as the veterans were homesick and the newcomers, too inexperienced to have any esprit de corps. There was a shortage of mules and saddles.[7]

Estimates for the Ethiopian forces under Menelik range from a low of 80,000 to a high of 150,000, outnumbering the Italians by an estimated five or six times.[8] The forces were divided among Emperor Menelik, Empress Taytu, Ras Welle, Ras Mengesha Atikem, Ras Mengesha Yohannes and Ras Alula Engida, Ras Mikael of Wollo, Ras Makonnen, Fitawrari Gebeyyehu, and Negus Tekle Haymanot of Gojjam.[9] In addition, the armies were followed by a similar number of traditional peasant followers who supplied the army, as had been done for centuries.[1] Most of the army was composed of riflemen, a significant percentage of which were in Menelik's reserve; however, the army was also composed of a significant number of cavalry and infantry only armed with lances.[1] On the night of Feb 29 and the early morning of March 1, three Italian brigades advanced separately towards Adwa over narrow mountain tracks, while a fourth remained camped.[10] David Levering Lewis states that the Italian battle plan called for three columns to march in parallel formation to the crests of three mountains — Dabormida commanding on the right, Albertone on the left, and Arimondi in the center – with a reserve under Ellena following behind Arimondi. The supporting crossfire each column could give the others made the… soldiers as deadly as razored shears. Albertone's brigade was to set the pace for the others. He was to position himself on the summit known as Kidane Meret, which would give the Italians the high ground from which to meet the Ethiopians.[11]

However, the three leading Italian brigades had become separated during their overnight march and at dawn were spread across several miles of very difficult terrain. Their sketchy maps caused Albertone to mistake one mountain for Kidane Meret, and when a scout pointed out his mistake, Albertone advanced directly into Ras Alula's position.

Unbeknownst to General Baratieri, Emperor Menelik knew his troops had exhausted the ability of the local peasants to support them and had planned to break camp the next day (2 March). The Emperor had risen early to begin prayers for divine guidance when spies from Ras Alula, his chief military advisor, brought him news that the Italians were advancing. The Emperor summoned the separate armies of his nobles and with the Empress Taytu beside him, ordered his forces forward. Negus Tekle Haymanot commanded the right wing, Ras Alula the left, and Rasses Makonnen and Mengesha the center, with Ras Mikael at the head of the Oromo cavalry; the Emperor and his consort remained with the reserve.[11] The Ethiopian forces positioned themselves on the hills overlooking the Adwa valley, in perfect position to receive the Italians, who were exposed and vulnerable to crossfire.[1]

Albertone's askari brigade was the first to encounter the onrush of Ethiopians at 6:00, near Kidane Meret, where the Ethiopians had managed to set up their mountain artillery. His heavily outnumbered askaris held their position for two hours until Albertone's capture, and under Ethiopian pressure the survivors sought refuge with Arimondi's brigade. Arimondi's brigade beat back the Ethiopians who repeatedly charged the Italian position for three hours with gradually fading strength until Menelik released his reserve of 25,000 Shewans and swamped the Italian defenders. Two companies of Bersaglieri who arrived at the same moment could not help and were annihilated.

Dabormida's Italian brigade had moved to support Albertone but was unable to reach him in time. Cut off from the remainder of the Italian army, Dabormida began a fighting retreat towards friendly positions. However, he inadvertently marched his command into a narrow valley where the Oromo cavalry slaughtered his brigade, while shouting Ebalgume! Ebalgume! ("Reap! Reap!"). Dabormida's remains were never found, although his brother learned from an old woman living in the area that she had given water to a mortally wounded Italian officer, "a chief, a great man with spectacles and a watch, and golden stars".[12]

The remaining two brigades under Baratieri himself were outflanked and destroyed piecemeal on the slopes of Mount Belah. By noon, the survivors of the Italian army were in full retreat and the battle was over.

The Italians suffered about 7,000 killed and 1,500 wounded in the battle and subsequent retreat back into Eritrea, with 3,000 taken prisoner; Ethiopian losses have been estimated around 4,000-5,000, but with 8,000 wounded.[10][13] In their flight to Eritrea, the Italians left behind all of their artillery and 11,000 rifles, as well as most of their transport.[13] As Paul B. Henze notes, "Baratieri's army had been completely annihilated while Menelik's was intact as a fighting force and gained thousands of rifles and a great deal of equipment from the fleeing Italians."[14] The 3,000 Italian prisoners, who included General Albertone, appear to have been treated as well as could be expected under difficult circumstances, though about 200 died of their wounds in captivity.[15] However, 800 captured askaris, regarded as traitors by the Ethiopians, had their right hands and left feet amputated. There does not appear to be any foundation for reports that some Italians were castrated and these may reflect confusion with the atrocious treatment of the askari prisoners.[16]

Baratieri was relieved of his command and later charged with preparing an "inexcusable" plan of attack and for abandoning his troops in the field. He was acquitted on these charges but was described by the court martial judges as being "entirely unfitted" for his command. Chris Prouty offers a panoramic overview of the response in Italy to the news:

When news of the calamity reached Italy there were street demonstrations in most major cities. In Rome, to prevent these violent protests, the universities and theatres were closed. Police were called out to disperse rock-throwers in front of Prime Minister Crispi's residence. Crispi resigned on 9 March. Troops were called out to quell demonstrations in Naples. In Pavia, crowds built barricades on the railroad tracks to prevent a troop train from leaving the station. The Association of Women of Rome, Turin, Milan and Pavia called for the return of all military forces in Africa. Funeral masses were intoned for the known and unknown dead. Families began sending to the newspapers letters they had received before Adwa in which their menfolk described their poor living conditions and their fears at the size of the army they were going to face. King Umberto declared his birthday (14 March) a day of mourning. Italian communities in St. Petersburg, London, New York, Chicago, Buenos Aires and Jerusalem collected money for the families of the dead and for the Italian Red Cross.[17]

One question much asked – both then and long afterwards – is why did Emperor Menelik fail to follow up his victory and drive the routed Italians out of their colony? The victorious Emperor limited his demands to little more than the abrogation of the deceptive Treaty of Wuchale. In the context of the prevailing balance of power, the emperor's crucial goal was to preserve Ethiopian independence. In addition, Ethiopia had just begun to emerge from a long and brutal famine; Harold Marcus reminds us that the army was restive over its long service in the field, short of rations, and the short rains which would bring all travel to a crawl would soon start to fall.[18] At the time, Menelik claimed a shortage of cavalry horses with which to harry the fleeing soldiers. Chris Prouty observes that "a failure of nerve on the part of Menelik has been alleged by both Italian and Ethiopian sources."[19] Lewis believes that it "was his farsighted certainty that total annihilation of Baratieri and a sweep into Eritrea would force the Italian people to turn a bungled colonial war into a national crusade"[20] that stayed his hand.

As a direct result of the battle, Italy signed the Treaty of Addis Ababa, recognizing Ethiopia as an independent state. Almost forty years later, on October 3rd, 1935, after the League of Nations weak response to the Abyssinia Crisis, in a new military campaign endorsed by Benito Mussolini, the Second Italo-Abyssinian War, the Italians soundly defeated the Ethiopian forces. Following the war, Italy occupied Ethiopia for five years (1936-41), before eventually being driven out during World War II by Ethiopian patriots and guerrillas, aided by British Empire forces, in the East African Campaign.

"The confrontation between Italy and Ethiopia at Adwa was a fundamental turning point in Ethiopian history," writes Henze, who compares this victory to Japan's naval victory over Russia at Tsushima. "Though apparent to very few historians at the time, these defeats were the beginning of the decline of Europe as the center of world politics."[21]

On a similar note, the Ethiopian historian Bahru Zewde observed that "few events in the modern period have brought Ethiopia to the attention of the world as has the victory at Adwa;" however, Bahru Zewde puts his emphasis on other elements of this triumph: "The racial dimension was what lent Adwa particular significance. It was a victory of blacks over whites. Adwa thus anticipated by almost a decade the equally shattering experience to the whites of the Japanese victory over Russia in 1905."[22]

This defeat of a colonial power and the ensuing recognition of African sovereignty became rallying points for later African nationalists during their struggle for decolonization, as well as activists and leaders of the Pan-African movement.[23] As the Afrocentric scholar Molefe Asante explains, "After the victory over Italy in 1896, Ethiopia acquired a special importance in the eyes of Africans as the only surviving African State. After Adowa, Ethiopia became emblematic of African valour and resistance, the bastion of prestige and hope to thousands of Africans who were experiencing the full shock of European conquest and were beginning to search for an answer to the myth of African inferiority."[24]

Italy's defeat at Adwa foreshadowed its military hardships and failures that plagued Italy through both World Wars.

I am proud to say my great grand father was one of the military commanders who, with the Wello Cavalry of Ras Mikael, broke the center of the Italian advance. He was killed then and buried in Axum, later after the victory.
They have paid in blood, and kept the nation and passed to us. Now, the nation is in great danger of division, and dismemberment. I think it is good to talk about the past, but I also believe Ethiopians of today should stop the meaningless squabbles among themselves and repeat the victory of Adwa. Adwa happened because of Menelik's, with all his faults, ability to unite Ethiopians under one umbrella. Noone hesitated from showing up on that noble day and answer the call. Even those who, for one reason or another, sided with the Italians like Ras Sebhat and Dej Hagos Teferi joined the Ethiopian side. Even Ras Wolde Mikael Solomon, who was a thorn on the side of Atse Yohanes, showed up from Eritrea with valuable inside information. His son was killed in the battle on the Ethiopian side. Unity is the answer.

It is time to rejoice our own distinctive history and appreciate our founding fathers for what they did to save our mother land.

God bless Ethiopia and our heroes.

Minilik who sold our port sea and he let Fascist Italia take Eritrea, Minilik declared war against unarmed innocent civilian Oromos and southerners people, then after hundreds of thousands of mass genocidal mass slaughter he committed the most despicable genocide in the African continent have ever known to Oromos, Wolaitas, Kampatas and other people of Southern (next to what has happened to Jews people). For goodness sake, how can one be pride of such criminal and erect statues for him? Today the perpetrators of genocide are facing justice all over the world except in Ethiopia. TIME WILL COME!
Ethiopian history books should include the historical account of this tragic massacre of Southerner Ethiopians by Minilik & his Neftegna gang. Ethiopian history books should include the historical account of this tragic massacre of Wollo Muslims by Atse Yohannes.
Today Amharas and Tigrays are of the same feather, but are rivals to control power in Finfinne. Wayanes are more in to robbing our resourse, while Neftegna are so obsessed to impose their language and culture over other people. How long can these two Abyssinian nations want to rule the country ?

The battle of Adwa will live in history not only as a victory of Ethiopians over imperialist Italy, but also as a victory of Africans over imperialism and white-man’s domination and chauvinism. It was an African victory over slavery, a beacon of hope towards freedom, the way that led Africans to throw their shackle and walk tall and emancipated.
Our ancestors came from all corners of Ethiopia, shade their blood, and died for their own freedom and the freedom of future generations. They were united in blood and death, and the mountains and valleys of Adwa and the environs bear eternal witnesses. They were all present at the call for sacrifice. They were Amharas, Oromos, Tigres, Afars, Gurages and all the other Ethiopian ethnic groups, big and small, from all the four corners of Ethiopia. They were all gallant fighters.
One can imagine the terror in the eyes of an Italian soldier who faced the gallant Oromo horse-man with his spear, sword and shield, who reaped his way towards victory, and the equally galant Ethiopian foot soldier who attacked the Italian canon sites and forced them to flee for their lives. Ethiopians united in times of a national danger wrote on the mountaintops, the big message that history and posterity will diachronically remember and relish, that Ethiopians are united in life and in death, for the sake of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their country and their freedom. Let Adwa unite us for ever! Let’s not erase this shining point in our history!
A leader should be ready to defend the boarders of the country he rules, and he should die defending its sovereignty and its freedom, because history will judge the actions of all those who found themselves at the helm of power. Menelik has proved it unequivocally. It remains for present day rules of Ethiopia, to stand before the mirror and ask themselves, if they have done and will do the same thing or not.
For the majority of Ethiopians, Menelik II will be known as the freedom fighter not only for Ethiopians, but also for all Africans. By the few who would like to tarnish his name for their anti-Ethiopian and hegemonic agenda, he will be known as a colonizer. The latter group of Ethiopians, forget the fact that, had it not been for Menelik and our gallant ancestors, we would have been part of the east African Italian Empire. We would have been a people humiliated and despised in their own country, contrary to the freedom we enjoyed, when most of our African brothers and sisters lived under inhuman European colonial rules. Had it not been for Menelik, today we would have been part of the chaos that affects modern Somalia. One can imagine the behavior and the mindset of people who lived under colonialism. Things would have been much much worse than the reality we have in Ethiopia. Despite our political affiliations and interpretations, this is the reality.
Our Eritrean friends who keep saying that Menelik did not continue the battle to free them from Italian colonialism, should know that, the war was between a badly equipped and badly rationed feudal army and an imperialistic one, who could get well equipped within a short period of time and return in full force to achieve its objectives. It took Italy forty years to defeat Ethiopia, and due to the politico-military situation of the times, Ethiopia could gain its freedom in only five years. Just imagine if the same thing happened in late nineteenth century, soon after the battle of Adwa. Nobody would have cared and no British army would have fought by the side of the Ethiopian patriots.
Let’s not always interpret things the way we like because it service our purpose. Menelik is a uniter and not a colonizer. He was also a brilliant leader and a person with sound judgment. Long live our victory in the battle of Adwa. Long live Ethiopia.

As a result, let me further make them more excited by sweetening their achievements on this regard with the following 1953 great song by Dean Martin:

This is just a fairytale for fools. Mengestu ended the viscous cycle of feudalism in Ethiopia. The lower poor class paid in their blood when the upper class flirted with westerners to slave the majority and abuse power to enslave its own kind. This is not a history one can be proud of. No country in the world had slaved its own people to serve the Western.

Why do you think Ethiopia is different? “ye ferenge, ye chin gered”

Sad but it is still happening today too.

Learn from what has happened in Kenya, Zimbabwe for instance! The opposition in those countries succeeded in getting into government by staying united!Unity is the key!Otherwise we will selfdestruct!Just look at what woyane is starting to do lately! All the opposition parties should come together, whatever their differences and misgivings and suspicions!
There is one Goal:the rule of law, human rights, all the freedoms deriving from the genuine respect of the constitution!
The enemy is one!Woyane!
The Obama revolution should be a great lesson!
We must change in all the senses, including ourselves if we want our struggle to succeed!
Long live Ethiopia!
No one should stand aside, every little bit helps!
Learn from the enemy, the woyane who was united and exploited the opportunities shrewdly!

"with the exception of the tiny republic of Liberia on the west coast of the the continent"

That is not true. Liberia was under USA control aiming to transport/expell slaves from USA and bring them to Liberia/Liberated.

"with only two impoverished territories on the Horn (Eritrea and Somalia)"

This is not true. At this time Somalia was divided in three. Italian Somalia(around Mogadishu), British Somalia(Somaliland) and Punt land. Libya was also an Italian colony.

"One brigade under General Albertone was made up of Eritrean askari led by Italian officers"
Look how the Eritreans are. They were bad then as they are always.

"Estimates for the Ethiopian forces under Menelik range from a low of 80,000 to a high of 150,000, outnumbering the Italians by an estimated five or six times." This was/is/and will be the true nature of the Ethiopian people. I'm proud to be part of of these people.
"Albertone's askari brigade was the first to encounter the onrush of Ethiopians at 6:00, near Kidane Meret, where the Ethiopians had managed to set up their mountain artillery"

Eritreans were the first faced Ethiopia serving teh racist enemy treating them as nobody in their own place and they didn't know it was/is wrong.
"he inadvertently marched his command into a narrow valley where the Oromo cavalry slaughtered his brigade, while shouting Ebalgume! Ebalgume! ("Reap! Reap!" This is the oromo. Not what the Islamic terrorists so called OLF are describing the Oromos and Ethiopia. Look it was almost 120 years a go.

"800 captured askaris, regarded as traitors by the Ethiopians, had their right hands and left feet amputated"

King Umberto declared his birthday (14 March) a day of mourning. Italian communities in St. Petersburg, London, New York, Chicago, Buenos Aires and Jerusalem collected money for the families of the dead and for the Italian Red Cross.[17]
Italy occupied Ethiopia for five years (1936-41), before eventually being driven out during World War II by Ethiopian patriots and guerrillas
"Though apparent to very few historians at the time, these defeats were the beginning of the decline of Europe as the center of world politics."[21]
"The racial dimension was what lent Adwa particular significance. It was a victory of blacksThis defeat of a colonial power and the ensuing recognition of African sovereignty became rallying points for later African nationalists during their struggle for decolonization, as well as activists and leaders of the Pan-African movement. over whites
As the Afrocentric scholar Molefe Asante explains, "After the victory over Italy in 1896, Ethiopia acquired a special importance in the eyes of Africans as the only surviving African State. After Adowa, Ethiopia became emblematic of African valour and resistance, the bastion of prestige and hope to thousands of Africans who were experiencing the full shock of European conquest and were beginning to search for an answer to the myth of African inferiority."[24]

This is just one of the few Ethiopian historical/realities in the African and world arena. The BBC propaganda to destroy her Image will not change the fact about her. The ugly English is ungry about Ethiopia by being the example and front runner to fee Africa/blacks from colonization and slavery. They are on campaign to destory the Ethiopian image because of revange what ethiopia have done for Africa against them including in 1970/80 to Zimbabwee.

Congradulation all ethiopians for the anniversary of the battle of adwa that destroyed the enemy.

This was another history stolen from tigray people for the enormous price they paid by aste menelik

We all know aste menelik and his ras's never had engage in these fight or step thier foot near by.

This huge victory was paid by the majority tigray people led by THE GREAT RAS ALULA & ethiopians.

Even during this war tigray women had played major roll chasing out the italians & thier slave erteran

While these brave women were chasing these cowards out of the enviorans.

They were carying babys on thier back WITH ANKELBA & RIFLE ALONG WITH ETHIOPIA FLAG ON THIER HANDS

Do to lack of resources & deal made by menelik with italy the tigray people were unable to chase the enemy out of the red sea.

Indeed this whole battle that was excuted BY THE GREAT RAS ALULA & THE INHABITANS ALONG WITH BRAVE ETHIOPIANS DOES MAKE THIS DAY SPECIAL.

Long live ETHIOPIA!

Loser, Eritrea's ports were never part of Ethiopia, the same way your Oromia or the Ogaden was not part of it. Why don't you just resist the nefTegnas invasion against the South? Why try to gather the loser NefTegnas behind you, to score a point or two?

There was such thing Ethiopia, befor Menelik, gebah Qorqoro, iwnetim Qorqoro?

To those losers who believed Menelik was their men, the same Menelik was the one who signed with conscience, the "Final and Binding" territory that no any modern history or wanna-be Super power can change.

Eritrea and Ethiopia were two distinct states by default, which never existed as "ONE".

Long Live Adwa Victory !

Long live Adwa's Martyrs!

Long live our grandfathers who fell down for their motherland and people in the uneven fields of Adwa's environs and on its very spot - mighty mountain chains! Adwa’s neighboring locales, Tigray's highland overall add up many famed ravines and valleys most Aethiops rehearse from heart !!

Long live Adwa's commander in chief - Emiye Menelik and his generals, son of guns, named and un-named Rasses, Dejazmaches, Fitawraris and their ordinary soldiers, peasant footmen !

Long Live also the unbeatable Ras Alula - probably History's long warring general - who in his old age campaigned and won!

I am very happy, as I share the same familial line or as I feel close in some ways to the prior great general. So it is a great pleasure even to hear my ancestors have been close cousins to this immortal hero. I like to know all of his descendants if doing well, wherever they are. If they want to meet their – far/close – relatives and country folks, any descendant of the Great Ras thus connects to all of us and to me. It doesn’t matter these descendants (may be) have not inherited the same ‘smart’ genes, since I believe also talent, intelligence and brevity, although hereditary gifts, must be concocted by their gene carriers, every individuals and other tumultuous multi layered external factors. It is something that one must individually amass and perform, create and realize these internal qualities.

I am impressed to hear some wise words like always he does, from a descendant of an Adwa hero, also a close relative of to our beloved Great Emperor, MeneliK.

Ethiopians are obliged to visit Adwa and charge energy of the Father Land, come to terms with the past in a good way! I did mine. And will repeat the journey with a family member, when time and material means allows. It is a must see heroic landscape - a distance/connection which should be endeavored! No doubt, it has an energizing effect for any one who looks at it. Its environs lend aspiration(s), and an imagination to seize the dream comes true moment and by that it soothes Ethiopia's soul forever. I'm glad I was there before five years and was calmed down by it all. I am glad our good teacher H. Garima reiterates again and again in his films and talks about the unquestionably in-diminishable Adwa imposing story lines. We have a lot to learn. The world, freedomloving populace has a lot to learn from it: From the US’ African Amercans to the Vietnamese freedom fighters.

The sharply twisty mountain peaks of the North Ethiopian plateau slopes how majestically they stand stuck over each other or recline on each other’s sturdiness, they are a sensational embodiment to the Ethiopian nationhood from our History’s recent perspective - close up edifice. No doubt they stand like natural citadels. That is where and why every dis- serviced citizen run away in hideout to the rocks, to come back again to hit back or seek justice! In time of occupation and war all Ethiopian take these mountain ranges as their fortress shields.

Adwa is appealing to me and so we must raise our tops on this sacred date to the unconquered.

With reverence and esteem to the Adwa Semaetat!

zxamiche let me remind you how you were treated while you were an italian slave. You were not allowed to be seen in the streets of asmera during day time, to walk to your masters house you were instructed to do it early in the morning and very late at night after sun set. In the bus just like it was in America, you were not allowed to sit in front which was reserved for your God the fascist italians. What makes your slavery worse is that, the front section of the bus was separated by a curtain because the italians did not even want to see you. You were not allowed to learn more than the fourth grade. After Ethiopia liberated you, you were given the chance for higher education, the Ethiopian King Haile Selassie built the asmera university and here you are bad mouthing Ethiopia but who could blame you for it since you are brainwashed by the mercinary isayas afework and his bandit EPLF, we only feel sorry for you, as we speak so many "eritreans" are paying thousands of dollars t be smuggled to Ethiopia. What happened to your much talked about "independence"?

Your evil plan of AFD unholy alliance for disaster failed to materialize, OLF and ONLF have no place in Ethiopia since majority of Ethiopians are not interested to fall into the hands of narrow minded bandist which end up promoting EPLF's interests. meles zenawis TPLF baby sitted you guys once the real Ethiopians take power in Ethiopia I wonder how your God isayas will survive.

zxamiche Ethiopia is an ancient country in the African continent gebah ante denkoro ye italy ashker. hid ke italy wetader yeterarefe pasta lekakim.

Minilik did not sign any "final and binding" paper as you would love to say. EPLF and TPLF did it in algeria/an arab country which have the interest of egypt at heart. The democrat madeline albright was also visible. Ethiopia was temporarily made land locked by the two mercinaries EPLF and TPLF who are darling of arabs/egypt and the west. In due time all the wrong done in 1991 will be CORRECTED!!

zxamiche you can dream all you want to be a neighbour of italy but the relaity is your tiny worthless land aka "eritrea" is located in Africa. Since the 1980s your identity crisis have mad you think you are an arab, the golden camel and the arabian letters written on the "eritrean" passport which I saw in the early 1990s are a testimony to your identity crisis.

AGAM,

You are right our courageous Tigray people led by Ras Alula, Ras Mekonnen, Ras Hagos, Ras Mengesha Yohannes defeated the Italian invaders. Ras Alula and his comrade Rases asked Atse Menelik to chase them all the way to Asmara and kick them out of the Red Sea costal but Menelik was extremely nervous during his stay in Tigray because he was afraid of being assassinated by the Tigrian Ras Alula and Mengesha, he said no more to go after the enemies. Menelik knew Ras Alula asked Ras Mengesha to reorganize his armies and go after Menelik of Shewa after Atse Yonannes was assassinated by Menelik mercenaries during the METEMA battle against Mahdi Sudan. When Ras Alula asked Ras Mengesha to March to Shewa and defeat Menelik, Ras Mengesha said no and it is okay Menelik to be king of Ethiopia. Ras Alula was so mad and told Ras Mengesha that the chair to be taken by Menelik was not my father’s chair it is your father chair and Alula left to his home and never saw Ras Mengesha until the Adwa war.

The reason Atse Menelik did not participate his armies was his armies were busy protecting Atse Menelik against any intrusion from the Tigray side to assassinate him.

The annihilation of the invading Italian force by the Ethiopian peasants in the Ethiopian soil at Adwa territory in the Tigre province is the declaration of independence for the rest of the African nations under the oppressions of the British, the French, the German, the Dutch, and the Italian colonizers.

As His Majesty immediately announced his victory over the powerful Italian army, the news of his victory reverberated throughout the continent of Africa, including Liberia, under the American occupation. Therefore, it is fair to say that Ethiopia is the only country in Africa that has never been colonized by any foreign forces.

Of course, after 40 years, the badly defeated and humiliated Italy came back with revenge and modern weapons to obliterate our country and change the map of Ethiopia.

Even though those lion-like Ethiopian fighters, such as Ras Mengesha Atikem, Ras Mengesha Yohannes, Ras Alula Engida, Ras Mickael of Wollo, Ras Mekonnen, Fitawrari Gebeyyehu, and Negus Tekele Haymanot of Gojam were not there in action to fight the Italian army, there were other ferocious Ethiopian fighters ready to confront the heavily armed and sophisticated Italian army – heroes of Ethiopia like Abebe Aregai, Ras Mesfin Kasa, Bellay Zeleke, Ras Immiru Desta, Betweded Adane Mekonen, Fitawrari Haile, Grazmach Isatu Mekonnen, Ayalew Biru, and many others.

However, His Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie knew that he had no weapons that matched the Italians,’ so in consultation with his ministers, he regretfully left the country and went to England, and from there he appealed to the League of Nations for help.

For five years the above mentioned Ethiopian heroes continued fighting the Fascist army day and night, summer and winter and weakened the enemy until finally with the help of the British they defeated Italy and brought their King home victoriously.

As to the question why Menelik II didn’t drive the Italians out of Eritrea when he was able to do so? Well, His Majesty knew his troops were very exhausted to continue the war; on the other hand, if he had continued forward, the Italians might have brought new troops from Somalia or Libya to fight Menelik’s exhausted army, especially the Eritreans could have fought him in their familiar territories. So Menelik did the right thing for avoiding confrontation with the Italians in the land of his Eritrean rivals and traitors.

Anyway, some people still ask the same question: Why didn’t George H. W. Bush move to Bagdad and capture Saddam Hussein after he had liberated Kuwait from the Iraq’s invasion in 1991? Why didn’t Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher go to Argentina and take the whole country after she had defeated the Argentine Military Junta during the Falklands War in 1982? For sure, no one knows the exact answer to such questions but only the planners of the war.

Menelik II and Emperor Haile Selassie had been the most loved and well respected sovereigns by most of the Ethiopian people; the people of Ethiopia had expressed their loves and admirations to each one of them by calling Menelik “emeye” my mother, and Haile Selassie “thehayu Nigus” the Sun King. And the more cruelty these Ethiopians get from their present regime, the more nostalgic they become to the days of Emperors Menelik II and King Haile Selassie I.

King Menelik II and Emperor Haile Selassie may never come back, but it is possible for Ethiopia that one day it will produce capable, unselfish, and down to earth leaders who will die for the love and unity of their country.

Agam and Halafi, look at you Tigre sickos! People are celebrating Ethiopia, talking about nationalist heroism, the power of unity, but here you are once again suffering from your tribal sickness. Why are you people always like this, unable to think big and right, always antagonists, is this a curse, a sickness? Why are you always after disrupting our Ethiopian party, harming our unity? Why? You fools, do you want to take Ethiopians great achievement all for yourself? Why don't you simply claim that it was only you who have fought the war and came out victorious? Why not denying that Minilek was there leading thousands of brave Ethiopians? Go head, what is holding you back!? The truth is the invading force has been always at the border, threatening to run over you. All you have managed was holding them back and wait for the arrival of the great leader, the visionary, and the amazingly brilliant Ethiopian King Minilek. Knowing what happened to Atse Tewodros in Meqdela and Atse Yohannes when he went alone to Metema, Minilek has used his topless organizing abilities, united Ethiopians from all walks of life and then crushed the invaders. The victory was possible because of our unity, and that was Minilek's admirable and immortal achievement, a political savvy neither of his predecessors had! No body said he was a great general, or a warrior, or even a military strategist, he was a great leader like Churchill was, like Abraham Lincoln was! Like every other war time great leaders, he, along with his magnificent Queen, has been effective in selling his cause, convincing the notorious Rases and people to follow his leadership. Of course, i would have loved it if he had liberated Bihare Melash, but he was not a reckless leader and knew his limit or perhaps as you yourself said it he did not find the Temben and Enderta military strategists trust worthy, that more than the foreign enemy's power he was afraid of his own country men who would conspire to assassinate him for tribal reasons. If you are hopping to minimize your level of treason that has made you accept land locking Ethiopia, you are mistaken, because under his leadership Ethiopia had Djibouti and Aseb. It was Mingistu and you stupid Woyanes who has sold our sea coasts.

Now, that was not an attempt to deny the pivotal contributions of Alula and others from Enderta, not at all! Like every other Ethiopians, I'm very much grateful and thankful for their sacrifices. Beside, my Tigre ancestors are from both Temben and Enderta, but i'm not a village idiot like you to discredit and degrade others achievements while zealously praising my own.

Long live Emiye Minilek's Ethiopia!!!

An enduring legacy for a long suffering and enduring great king.
Just as Prince God the creator, Iyesus Kristos, great kings die the visible and invisible deaths of their people. The Adwa victory is just the tip of the iceberg for the peaceful leader who had to scale and overcome the mountains and balanced tons and tons of challenges on his shoulder from childhood to his death. Earthly credit due to a remarkable generation of the time. Kidus Giogis led it and God made it possible.

Because of thier cowardly act gave the facist an excuse in the world eyes which they were on his sid

After 40 years the facist italy came back to revenge it's defeat by gallant ethiopians.

Unlike in 1896 these time with modern weapons thousands of,planes, thanks, macgun,& MUSTAR GAS..

Also it's foot soldiers including ascari eriterans were in hundred thousands.

Here again the facist launched it's war in TIGRAY ETHIOPIA with all it's force.

Keep in mind while this was happining the emperor was taking his sweet time in addis..

The patriots, peasants, men, women from tigray were fighting the facist force with 1896 adwa rifles.

The facist was beaten on the ground and was unable to advance for several months.

After learning the difficulty of the battle the facsist restore into USING MUSTAR GAS BY THOUANDS

With these outlaw mustar gas thousanands of patriot tigreans, women, children, elderly were killd

Most of the fighters had no choice but to retreat on the mountain and engage in gurila war fare.

During these muster gas campaign no tigray was untouched.Specialy in ADIGRAT,TEMBEN,SHERE,ADWA WOKRUO,KUHI,& many major cities.

The patriots continued the struggle until patriot from all over ethiopia arrived.Led by THE GREAT RAS MULUGATA IN AMBALAGE TIGRAY...

And the battle of MICHEW IN TIGRAY ONCE AGAIN WITNESED THE BRUTALITY OF THE MUSTER GAS.

Where ethiopians can not be beaten hand to hand, gun to gun, dust to dust...

Long live patriot ethiopians!

I hope you are kidding that you have ancestral blood from Tembien and Ederta. Please do not make me hate my Tigrainet. When I hear people like you, Teddy and Addis Girl, my heart tell me that I rather be a separate one than you my fellow country man. I feel Shewarega is half Shewa and the rest Tembien-Enderta the way he talk to us.

Free learn from Shewarega, he loves his people more than his own parents as he stated that if I had to meet Mengistu (his parents killer) and Meles (his country seller), I would let go Mengistu and do something to Meles Ager Sheyat and respect others. He always tells us the truth and very balanced approach and he tells to all of us equally if we are wrong.

The ERA of hate who you are and love us is over for good. The new era is, love your people and respect others is the way to go for the new generation of Ethiopians and I believe this approach will keep all Ethiopian united for ever.

Remember that the story we read above was not written by whom the history was made the Ethiopians. Even those who don't appreciate us wrote this piece and imagine what the true patriotism was involved if the detail accounts were reported by Ethiopians.

There are several texts about the battle of Adowa. A more detail account of the battle hour by hour was described by a book called "the scramble for Africa" pages 470-486.

Minilik was described as a true war commander in chief as Italy was insisting and inviting Minilik to take offensive so that he will lose easy but he never flinch. He insist not to take offensive for months even while supply was gone bad. It was concluded that this was his best strategy. The second most important move was he kept the most deadly and strong army in the back reserve while taking the defense. He monitored the fighting dynamics which was up and dawn some times too bad to Ethiopian side then he released those best equipped and almost termed as fighters who behave as terribly mad when they fight were released at the right moment and took offense and wiped out the army of Italy.
It is so detail that sometimes your tears uncontrollably drop on your face on certain accounts of our king, queen Taitu and our hero army commanders and ancestors who fought for our freedom. At the beginning when Italy took offensive it was said Taitu carried a rock on her back shoulder and beg for Gods help bending to the ground. Minilik then ordered to take the defense operations once he was sure Italy took the offense saying now is the time but reserved others to finish the job. At the middle of the fight there was even sign of loss then again Taitu with her black umbrella sign of sadness said repeatedly my fellow heroes it is your day to die for your freedom strike the enemy!! strike!! that time the reserve who were with big emotions to join were released by Minilik and they finished the job.
Minilik and our ancestors defined what Africans are in general and in no doubts what we Ethiopians are in particular at the battle of Adowa. They defined Ethiopia and we will keep our Ethiopia as it was defined by them. Free, patriotic, and God fearing.

Speaking of 1935 Italian invasion of Ethiopia, my father fought with fellow other four men lead by my father never gave up to the enemy Italian and did not come home until the enemy was kicked of and King Haileselassie came back home. My father was a guerrilla fighter and he and his followers total of five set a fire on the Italian the biggest base in Tigray during the summer time when all grasses and bushes were dry and the base was planted bombs surrounding the hill and when the fire was gushing the bombs went off and destroyed most of their equipments and some lives. You can see the burned equipments until now and the burned bomb shells are being used by the locals for grinding seeds. The Italians were forced to move from the strategic biggest base to another one before they moved out completely from Ethiopia. When King Haileselassie came back my father was awarded land in the south and shumet but my father said I do not need your land and shumet because you betrayed us and left the country with out a leader to fight the enemy. During King Haileselassie tour of Tigray, my father was invited to shake his hand and get some mount of cash and he told them quote “MY STOMACH IS INFRONT ME NOT BEHIND ME I CAN CONTROL IT” meaning I would not betray my fellow fighters who fought with me and died for their country and accept money to feed my stomach. He was well off financially and did not need anything from anyone at that time. My father hates King Haileselassie to his bone.

AGAM/Halafi/qorqoro,

"In accordance with the Italian 'politics of Tigrigna and the Convention of Mereb', on
December 6, 1891 on the banks of Mereb, in a solemn convention between General
Gandolfi and Ras Mengesha, in the presence of many officials among others Ras Alula,
Mengesha recognized for Italy the border Mareb-Belesa-Muna. Tigrayan princes, headed
by Ras Mengesha Yohannes, swore an oath of solidarity with the Italians. The ethnonationalists
who made Amhara bashing their lifetime occupation never mention the
crimes and duplicities of some highland Eritreans and Tigryans. It was the cooperation
of some highland Eritreans aristocrats first with Egypt and later with the British and
Italians that led to the occupation of Massawa. The occupation of Masswas was a
prelude to Adwa. Unfortunately those who believe they have monopoly over the truth
are ignorant of their own history while defaming Menelik.' A must read critical Ethiopian history from the magnificent Girma Bekele

First of we are Tigray not Tigre. You guys wanted to change our region name from Tigrigna to Amharic. I do remember and I was one of the fighters to change the name from Tigre to Tigray. I used to play sport and I was representing my region annually and we had uniform says Tigray instead of Tigre the way Amhara wanted and when they saw us dressed Tigray logo during the game, the Ethiopia sport federation stopped the game and they kicked us from the annual tournament and punished Tigray for two years band from participation.

No wonder you are free of the nine regions and you called yourself Ethiopia??

You have to be something in one of the nine regions in order to be an Ethiopian citizen or origin. Anyone from one of the region makes him or her Ethiopian. None of the nine region origin will make anyone no Ethiopia, NULE and VOID to be an Ethiopia.

My Tigrainet made me Ethiopiawi not the other way around.

I wrote a very reasonable, diverging and historical comment on nazret.com ealier and somethiog has happened to it.I don't know what happaned to it. It wasn't offensive or anything, just historical facts.

As we all know Ethiopia nation's problem started with hiding or suppressing the realities like brother Metho Obango has said in his last article. We can hide some embrassing info for a while but we cannot supress forever. I invite my all Ethiopian brothers and sisters to come for front about this issue. If we pretend otherwise, we are doomed and will never progress.

One thing I forget to mention in my ealier commemt is about the Liberian history . I read "The Mask of of Anarchy in Liberia" By Stephen Ellis of the former ICG in west Africa region. I read his book accidentally few years ago and the similarity of what happened in Liberia civil war and ensuing chaos is and what is going and will happen in Ethiopia is striking.

He graphicaly describes how the African slave immigrants, with help of American government in terms of weapons and financial, treated and exploited larger indiginous people and oppresed over hundrend years. They tried to impose their values ,religion and empty arrogance. They conquered an unyieldind tribal lands with the barrel of the gun. After hundrend years of status quo SGT Samuel Doe and other monisters came to repell amnd destroyed the system. We all now what happened then. Is that familiar when look at at Mengistu, Melez and the coming scenarios? I think so.I recommend to refer that book.

Thank you

Narrow tribalists AGAM and Halafi..
When my grandfather from METCHA OROMO died during the Adwa battle, he died for his country ETHIOPIA not for his tribal loyalty. He was mobilised not because he had special affection to Menelik, or it does not mean that he did not deplore the conditions and fellow peasants like him were living under. Had it been Emperor Yohannes who was calling his countrymen to mobilise against foreign aggressors, he could have done the same. Those who died in METEMA alongside Emperor Yohannes were members of Ethiopian armed forces not TIGRAYAN force. Our then leaders since Tewodros (BTW, also died in battle as that of Yohannes & Alula) ruled as Kings of the Ethiopia as a whole and made calls to all for the sake of Ethiopia and those who were mobilised responded for the sake of their country , putting their country above all their tribal loyalties and all their grievances.
I am glad that our ancestors (both the rulers and the ruled) had the wisdom & foresight to respond in unisom to European incursion and have avoided the situation older civilsations such as Indians have fallen into as a result of corrupted and fragmented rule of Maharajahs. Have my grandfather from my mother side had myopic view of tribal loyalty, he would not have travelled way far from his village in the north near MEREB river to the Southeast of the country to engage Italians in the Ogaden Desert. Read the history about QEBRI DEHAR in Ogaden and the biography of Hayelom Araya's uncle who also settled in the South Sidamo region after heroic deeds in service of the country. That's how Ethiopians lived, puttting their country first, putting their grievances and tribal affinities behind for the sake of their country and marrying across ethnic even religious lines, creating children & grandchildren of mixed heritage.
Yes we got it, you narrow tribalist morons you would like to celebrate the achievments in Adwa as that of the heroic deed of only your tribe. Your KUNCHO told Ethiopians in the wake of his arrival in Menelik's palace, that he is perplexed that Axum is a symbol of pride for non-Tigrayan Ethiopians and questioned why should Axum mean something to others other than Tigrayans? But, when your villages were burning by the Italians or Italian/Arab brain washed cousin of yours from North of Mereb, it was my grandfather and my later day cousins from Oromo villages, or other Ethiopians from small town hinterland who marched to harm's way thinking all the time their country. What pathetic creatures these narrow tribalists are!

ps. AGAM, what a misnomer! AGAMEs are humble and proud people fully aware of their rich history in the political history of Ethiopia. That's why, they are hated by the brain-washed ASKARIS from the MEREB MELASH who do not know their history. A petty mind like you do not deserve to have such name. Why don't you change it to ARAM which fits u instead.

Addis Girl,

I love my current Ethiopia even though my father fought as a guerrilla against the Italians for the love of Ethiopia and all Ethiopians in 1935. As I posted earlier the coward chicken head King Haileselassie was to give him land in the south, my father said the land you are to give me is a stolen land from our brothers Oromo and I do not need that. If you were an honest leader why do not you give me land from your own either from Wollo or Gonder closes by for me.

Addis Girl does not like the present Ethiopia because she can not cash in free money from the rest of Ethiopian regions in the name of Ethiopia. The old Ethiopia you had it for 100 years and we did not see anything and no one was motivated and made a change to their own life and their country except the Addis Ababa rulers used to celebrate almost every day and conducting wedding their families. During old Ethiopia there was not any region or society were accounted for their failed or success, everything was disguised in the name of Ethiopia.

The present Ethiopia is divided by their ethnic group and each region is responsible for their own success or failed, no one will be blamed except themselves. I strongly believe this approach will create among all regions a competition for success and Ethiopia as a country will benefit for the long run and Ethiopia will emerge as a strong united very happy all Ethiopians not by the name but by the deed.

The old Ethiopia rulers were preaching us Ethiopiawinet with out giving the chance to be their own as a society to love their own people and work hard for their own people. What the oldies rulers gave us was to hate them selves, to fight each other, divided people by their look, their color of their skin and never allowed other Ethiopians to show their talents to the contribution of Ethiopia strength. The present Ethiopia showed us a lot in 18 years than the 100 years raw meat eater rulers. Today Ethiopia is more respected around the world than ever before despite Meles made very bad decision handling the ARTERA affairs. I strongly believe a strong Ethiopiawi will emerge from EPRDF party and will inhailate the ARTERANS and Ethiopia will have its natural ports and will give the freedom of Kunama, Saho and Tigre in our northern front.

DEKI-ASKARIS (son of Askaris) were cornered and we Ethiopians had a chance to CUT their remaining LEFT ARMS AND RIGHT LEFT LEGS to revenge what they did in 1935 with our sworn in enemies Italians but Meles betrayed Ethiopia and he saved them for now.

Addis Girl,

My dear.

Don't give any attention to these rats. These are old bloodsucker militias abandoned by brave Meles along side with other former TPLF members knowing they are not good to anyone including to Ethiopians living in Tigry. These individuals you mentioned here are the hopeless human things and they have no future at all. Ethiopia is heading-slowly but surly eliminating Kilil and Ethnic policy and replacing it with the citizens’ mentality of one Ethiopia and one people principle.
If you are aware of it, the Situation is heading towards that direction. The Ethiopian youth association under one umbrella (Ethiopia) is one of it.

Don't give any attention to these few valueless acting as if they are somebody and can do something in the name of Tigry. They are suffering from daydreams with hate that is eating them. Don’t love or hate them. But ignore them. They are sick individuals suffering from hate and ignorance. They have nothing to influence the Ethiopian situation but spending their dead time on Internet releasing hates while waiting their final death despite they are already dead. The life they are living this way cannot be considered as a life. Do they get that? No. They are blind with hate.

Friends,

This is just a biased crap about Alula, but in its through section you can see Alula's unbeatable arm. I really don't believe Alula couldn't read and write and was a 19th century Ethiopian magnificent general. It was not the time of Maxmilian or Charlemagne of Europe in the Dark ages. This was the modern the 19th century, the beginning of Capitalism. For sure Alula wouldn't have spoken Italian or French but might have versed in Geez poetry!!!

The baddies can't dwarf Alula's epic. It is just a big monument.

If you are lucky to read Mamawe's Alula's biography in Geez can make it a perfect reading into Alula's epoch.

Also trusted historians on Eth. 19th century are:
Zewde G/ Selassie, Tadesse Tamrat, Bahru Zewde, Tekle Tsadik Mekuria. Berhanu Abebe, Gelawdewos.

A Contemporary Biography of Ras Alula: A Ge'ez Manuscript from Mänäwē, Tämbēn--II is used by the Israeli historian, Haggai Erlich. And his book is recomendable and was published by the RED SEA publishers.

This is what I found, if you are a student/reader of history here you can search for more materials in good libraries or in Ethiopian Studies, in Addis AAU:

Bulletin of the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, Vol. 39, No. 2 (1976), pp. 287-327 (article consists of 42 pages)
Published by: Cambridge University Press on behalf of School of Oriental and African Studies
Stable URL: http://www.jstor.org/stable/616796.

Other wise we have to rely on Western historians and "gum Zegenin" tsehafiwoch like some misinformed guys want to tell us.

bye, all the best, to history fans.

Qorqoro,

Get rid of your victim mentality or you will die of it sooner or later. It will help to know that among the perpetrators were Gobenas and Balhcas (may be in thousands). The wars were messy and to put them in a "north"-"south" or one ethnic group vs. another ethnic dichotomy does not only miss the point but also it is extremely dangerous. How could you condemn a genocide that did not take place and still beg for another one at the same time? Remember most genocide occur when people vie for revenge (often based on false or misguided pretentions). Your diatribe belongs to the latter.

I am so proud of Ethiopians who expressed their love for Ethiopia on this holiday that the West and Italy resent of. Of course, like the West and Italy there are confused Ethiopians whose brain was washed by the West, Italians and Arabs that are perpetuating West's and Arab's resentment because Ethiopia is the only Black country and example to all African countries who are even proud of there is such country who is free from colonization. My fellow African and professor still say that when they think of Ethiopia, they feel comfort and hope for other Africans as well. Yet, there are self-hate mongers and tribalists who still resent indirectly why they were not colonized and try to take advantage of their tribes did this and did that. Instead of arguing, why don't you read and research "legitimate" books that is balanced. Don't read just one book or one sided books and reach your conclusion, read books written by outsiders, by Ethiopians (Tigrayans, Amharas, Oromos, etc) and balance it and reach your conclusion. There are however books written that has tribal agenda. To find out that it is not just opinion, find out documents if you have to, go to library of congress or order, find out what history is there in Italy during the war with Ethiopia, and so on. In addition talk to older people who lived during that time, not just one senior where you lived, talk to older people around Ethiopia and reach your conclusion. One thing they will all agree though is that it is not one tribe, no one is saying it is the Amhara, or Tigrai or Oromo who should take the credit for freeing Ethiopia from colonization, they all believed and united as always to bring down Italy for their country called Ethiopia. Those who are tribalists above, if your forefathers were thinking that way would they have won Italy for instance to free Tigray only without the power of the rest of Ethiopians fighting Italy? With all due respect those people who said they hate Menelik or Selassie, etc, they were leaders of Ethiopia at that time whether you believe it or not their leadership has lead to free Ethiopia from colonization so somehow they have contributed a great positive for Ethiopia would you not say? If it wasn't Selassie's diplomacy knowledge, that lead him to be respected by the West, it was because of his love for Ethiopia he spoke in front of the league of nation while he was being ridiculed by the West. You said he left the country, he left the country because if a king died this would have made Italy they has conquered Ethiopia. Selassie left the country becuase at that time Ethiopia still has leadership eventhough in exile, he did not rest, it was because of him British said they will support Ethiopia to kick out Italy. Those kings from Yohannes to Selassie, in that era where there was no technology or knowledge all of them had contributed a positive and a great deal for Ethiopia despite what some tribalists think on this forum. Of course, it was Feudalism era what would you have expected there were serfs, landlords, like anywhere in the history Europe, Asia, etc. You are tribalists because you are holding on the past. Your thinking should be today, ok Ethiopia as a whose in the 21st century should be economically, politically and socially just and advance the country while providing and recognizing equal rights for all Ethiopian people. Instead, you are filled with revenge, tribal hate, etc. If that was the case, the West, Asia, etc would not have democratic, just society and they would have still thought of staid in the dark why their kings and queens oppress them, blah, blah. They move on and formed democracy that would support their people all accross. I think you tribalists, you are living in the dark still, you are living in the 18th, 19th century. Admit it, the kings have done the most positive thing than the recent leaders of Ethiopia Mengistu and Meles have done even in those dark era. Instead Mengistu and Meles, brought us back to darkness never mind the development of Ethiopia with bunches of buildings popping out that serves only the few. We have moved back another 10 steps after Selassie. We are used saying that is Africa thinking we have been the laughing joke of the West because how stupid can we be that we can't coexist for well being of our people. No wander Japanese professor, I think in Oxford? Not sure. He is teaching today saying Africans have lower IQ than any other nations. How insulting can that is but it is so true because we mistrust eachother, we play in the hands of the West, we resent eachother, we want to take revenge on eachother, etc.We are so consumed by this it is no wonder Africa will never develop.

Good day to you all

Eritrea, representing Egypt and Rome, still remain the formidable inside and an outside threat. Islamofascism, comprised of Saudi Royal Family, Wuhabism and Al Queda using local agents will continue to slash and burn. Woeyane will, with all its might, cling to power by subdividing the sheepfold further and farther and morphing into hyenaic striata state to satiate its greed and coming up with foreign ways to streghten its grip. "We have found the enemy", Pogo has said, "and it's us." Thus, we are our own enemies. The laws of Moses and the Prophets are not heeded. Enjoy the celebration without insults to your fellows Ethiopians. Save your insults for another day. The two fellows whom you are insulting in this forum are the same proud Ethiopians no matter what Ethnic background they came from. I would like to comment how skilled and smart Menelik was. Does anyone know why we started eating raw meat (Tire Siga) still delicious! When Italian representatives came to talk to Menilik to give up Ethiopia, he made sure they see him eat raw meat. They asked him why he is eating raw meat he said I killed Ethiopia's enemy and I am making sure he is in my stomach to digest him. The Italians looked at each other quickly took off to convey the message as the White's usually say, Ethiopia has barbaric king is dangerous. This indeed made Italians worry about Ethiopia. This was one of his skills to scare away Italians.

Think about how the West think of barbarism as if killing with tanks and guns and chemicals as non barbaric.

There are other tribe writers who wrote good about Alula besides Tigrayans. I wonder if the likes of you will do the same. In fact, I recently read on BBC, research it, Alula was depicted as Chifta dangerous bandit in Tigray and was feared. Look it up on BBC. You might now say it is a lie. It could be a lie or the truth maybe that was why he was a ruthless fighter during Italian occupation

Halafi Mengedi,

There are close to 6000 languages (nationalities) in the world but there aren't that many states on the map. In fact, you have to divide that number by thirty to get the actual number. In Africa alone there are close to 2000 ethnic groups who live in fifty-three states. Ethiopian leaders were not unique in attempting to build a national state out of different ethnic groups. If they failed it is not because they did not create kilils (tribal homelands) and let the seventy-some nationalities in Ethiopia compete against each other (as you want us to believe). I haven’t seen an argument that is as simplistic as this one in a very long time. Enjoy your simplicity. But do not try to preach tribalism in the name of development.

Halafi, before you start pointing fingers at people, you should look into yourself. For instance, in this thread, you have brought the trouble upon yourselves after trying to spoil our national party with your tribal interpretation of history. It is the case of "Asa gorguari zendo yawetal!" Cheap accusations, denigrations and denials wont take us nowhere, because as you can see the "other camp" has plenty of it if you wish to continue on that course. The fact is, your contribution to the Adwa victory is no more or no less than to that of other Ethiopians. The southerners came to north to defend Ethiopia, the northerners went to south and else where to defend Ethiopia. However, if you don't want to see history that way, then follow the link challenger provided and perhaps come up with your own link as a response, and see for yourself where that would lead us. ( I recommend you read what anonyme[Member] wrote on this matter.)

You have complained of being called Tigre, but what the hell is the difference between Tigre, Tigray, Tigrai? I mean, is that not how the old books in Geez address you troubled folks, Tigre? Amara, Amhara....? As far as I'm concerned, there is no difference between Tigre/Tigray/Tigrai and Amara/Amhara let alone between Tigre and Tigray. My guess is the name Tigray is one of the many Woyane/Shabea inventions, perhaps a symbol of defiance against the Derg regime and that might be the reason why you were banned for two years from the tournament back in the days. After all Tigray sounds more like the name of the place not the people.

Now, i see you are a big fan of ethnic federalism and foolishly believe it is the best way for Ethiopia especially if we replace Amarigna with the english language officially. I know for fact that you are favoring ethnic federalism out of tribal yet suicidal belief that it is somehow good for Tigray. Honestly speaking, that is because you have had the privilege of enjoying a free ride since 1993. People have written and spoken a lot how dangerous this course is for our unity and country, and it has proven itself a failure since then. However, it seems that you are not capable of understanding that or simply don't want to, so i intend to explain what it means for your beloved Tigray if ethnic federalism truly implemented in the country. Such a big Jilanfo, think about what happened to eritrea when we truly become two separate countries after the Badime war, when we decided no more free ride they were enjoying even after divorcing us! eritrea has become Artera since then, and it is still decaying at exponential rate. You know why! What would come of the overly exploited Tigray if what the tribal zealots like you have been calling for come true, that is uncompromising competition between the "nine regions"!? It is simple, you will be one of the biggest losers and perhaps will crowded the streets begging for alms. In a nut shell, that is what you are asking for thinking you will be better off, but one can not live eating language or tribalism, can not realize success out of ethnic competition. The Shabeans did not built Singapore out of their hate to Ethiopia and certainly you, the stupid and tribal woyane, will not succeed creating prosperous Tigray out of Tribalism and serious inferiority complex. As far as you are concerned, an Ethiopian from the north shouldn't be allowed to own a land in the south or get a job for that matter, oh well then, you will be working on 'dingay feleta' in Tigray then. That is the reality on the ground.

Meles knows that you are nothing but a DONKEY OF TIGRAY whose brain is in his stomach not in his head to look and think properly.

One day the Ethiopian people will catch you and will burn you like DEMERA for the crime you committed against Ethiopia. Meles power is in numbers and he will leave you there in Ethiopia and you will be SELATE (out caste Askaris Banda mercenary).

Where were you when Meles assassinated the Ethiopian hero General with his wife because he humilated the Askaris bandas during the war? Meles is your brave who sold your country, who looted your country, who killed your heroes, who destroyed your parents Woyane as a strong organization, who terrorize so many Woyane members and who does not give any damn to Tigray people who sacrificed to put him where he is now?

Very well said! How can one preach secession when they know in their heart (maybe they are thinking the years of resource they looted in Ethiopia will sustain them) for how long? The document that was written from TPLF about liberation from Ethiopia, what happened to it? It is because they are still enjoying the free ride they are getting from the rest of Ethiopia. Therefore, the argument these tribalists they are making "indpendence", how are they going to sustain themselves 50 years from now, no long term thinking here. Are they going to keep fighting with Eritreans and the rest of Ethiopia? Will they survive? It is time the Tigrayans better stand against the Weyane and say no to tribalism and say no to TPLF agenda say no to being brainwashed by TPLF. I know some Tigrayans are enjoying the privilege given to them by TPLF in expense of other Ethiopians. This is not for long, or for long term. It is time you stand with your fellow Ethiopians towards true democracy in Ethiopia, never mind who is going to lead the country as long as his/her intention is for united, rights, freedom for all Ethiopians politically, economically and socially.

Halafi Mengedi and Agam are the grduates of 'Dedebit University'. Do we have university in Dedebit? I will explain.

When tplf took the power from derg most tigrians became active partipant of tplfs policies. Even the members of derg's party called 'esepa' in amharic (Ethiopian workers party...) said they are supporters of tplfs. People asked you were esepa, you were killing people with derg, you were abusing people because you put on that gruesome uniform. They said no we were spying on derg. So people i am not the supporter of tplf. But there is a big difference between the tplfs who came from war field and the paracites in addis or most of the cities. These opportunists started calling only tigrians for meating in private after work, schools, everything privately if possible secreatly. These meatings changed from simple meating places to 'Dedbit University'. What ever was said in this meating is true for the members. New histories told even no tigrians heard before. Tplf can crash usa if it wants, sort of lecture.

Two examples from the lectures of the dedebit university. One day 12 at lunch time Tamrat was sent to prison becuse of corrupiton, the radio said. I was happy. I was shouting openlly 'Tamrat leba Tamrat leba'. It felt so good. One woyane didnt listend the news yet and difficutlt to believe what people saying and was very upset and told me that i couldnt say that so loud and besides it is not shure yet. You can not believe all what radio says. My answer was very simple 'Tamrat leba, tamarat leba.' He was sad all the afternoon. The next day after my woyane neighbour attended his night class from the 'dedbit university' came smiling ear to ear and said the worest man kind in history is Tamrat. You know what he did ... I said 'i dont wanna know he is leba.' He said Tamrat must be hanged. I said yeeeeeesssss, an i will help.

Tplf people do all the crimes, all the killings, to their people. But Tamrat who is not tigre ordred the Gonder people to behave nicely towards eritreans who were living there because Gonder people said 'shabians go home now you are no more slaves.' Tamrats answer was: our struggel is not yet finished if eritreans are concidered like second citizen in Ethiopia. The moment he gave this warning many Gonder people died by the woyane helicopters. The second example was that a woyane soldier said to me 'in Ethiopia no helicopter will shoot another ethiopian no more as long as tplf is in power.' The grdaduate of dedbit.

Can you give us why you like the old Ethiopia and do not like the present Ethiopia??

You have the right to like or to dislike about the situation of Ethiopia at the present time and I strongly disagree with you at the same time I respect your view. The only thing we hear from you, Teddy and Free is insult individuals and regions. You have been saying village many times but the reality is your 100 years village rule, the new generation of Ethiopians is in the process of converting you to the modern civilized and prosperous Ethiopia.

We need to hear from you what Ethiopia should do now and in the future?

Your sole argument is we want to come back and live the way used to be, sorry the new generation of Ethiopians are very wise and they do not manipulated by anyone. They say to you show me the bread or tell me how I can get the bread not nice and fancy talks and Ethiopianet, Ethiopianet with out the goodies to follow.

The new Ethiopians showed you most of the rivers water became for all Ethiopians. Unlike for 100 years our water was feeding our adversaries abroad.

Your DONKEY dirt roads became highway all over the country.

Your WOOD Bridge for human road only became two ways two line freeways.

Your 100 years hut buildings became the 21st century sky high modern buildings.

You had one University and two colleges financed by outsiders for all Ethiopians.

Ethiopia has 21 major universities and many trained colleges all over the country and still a lot of them to come in the near future.

The new Ethiopia regions have their own Radio stations to teach their people and every region has a plan to install Television station and some of them are already running.

The new Ethiopia is ready to exploit all natural resources to develop the country.

When you were beaten by Somali clans, you could not defend yourself and had to ask the CUBANS and other Eastern blocks. Seeyed Bare of Somali Armies were reached at edge of Addis Ababa prior the Cuban arrival.

It took you 30 years to fight the ASKARIS and you failed.

The new Ethiopia took them to defeat Askaris just a month and it took them a week to control Mogadishu.

Halafi Mengedi,

I think you and TPLF are taking advantage of the "development" of Ethiopia because of 3 things:

1. We live in the 21st century, globalization has influenced around the world for Ethiopia as well although it is for the wrong reason. For instance, there is secret behind globalization just like TPLF's so called development. Under globalization It looks like there is free trade but do you know what that does to poor nations, the rich countries now have the power to go in these countries such as the Dutch companies in Ethiopia who are making millions out of flowers and they are saying they are employing people and not to mention the chemical contamination they are creating by polluting the land and water. They profit 3 fold. Why isn't that opportunity given to Ethiopians. Rich nations are going around buying lands that is called under cover colonialism. Therfore, TPLF can only exist by pretending to allow to develop the country when in fact only Tigrayan influenced are the only ones to do such businesses. In addition, TPLF is making millions of dollars for its pocket taking 3 fold. Have you heard of democratic governments making owning business for their own profits? No', none. Governments are "hired" by people, they work for the people that is what governments should do not become businessmen.

2. Most Ethiopians in the Diaspora wanted to make a difference in their country so they are the majority that are making a difference but TPLF is taking the advantage of that. In fact why would they invite them over if it was not to exploit them?

3. As I said today is the 21st century and as technologies and developments are increasing throughout the world, Ethiopia whether under Weyane or not would have been influenced also. For instance, Mengistu was still in power, development would have been happening because times are changing. So that is why TPLF is taking all this advantage.

Is that not true, ante maferia dedeb!? If it wasn't for you 'kehadis' who were fighting for Arterans/shabeans every time they were at the verge of total annihilation by Ethiopian forces, Ethiopia wouldn't failed after thirty years of bitter war, after so much sacrifice! Perhaps, we should make sure that you pay the price for your decades of 'khidet' so that you can understand the hard way why we have failed! It is not your mistake, it is ours, who have allowed traitors like Woyanes to rule our country after renouncing their Ethiopiawinet at will for years and allied with enemies to disintegrate the country. Yes, as a traitor you have succeeded in creating a country, in land-locking Ethiopia and somehow defeating Ethiopians for the cause of Artera. And of course, you were not part of Ethiopia's ordeal to save her eastern territory, Ogaden. In fact, you were praying for the worst, to see her falling in the hands of her enemy, the Somalis, so that it would give you a free pass to loot and rape her with Saied Barree the way you have been doing it for the past two decades now. She needed Cuba's help, because her own children were engaged with bleeding her instead of protecting and defending her integrity, and you were a big part of that! Is that something you took pride on? Endangering your own country, making her an easy target for anyone who wishes to harm her, ante tebtaba lemagn!? We needed Cubans because you were busy fighting to land-lock her, gin ende ante ayinet dedeb mech yigabawuna! And, for the record, you never controlled Mogadishu, you were only limited to one camp, but Ethiopia had totally defeated the wild beasts with out you!!!! And, that is the main reason why they are in this quagmire and made it easy for you to reach their capital. As of Artera, what are you talking about retard? When Ethiopia was fighting the Shabeans for thirty years, almost every single territory used to be under our control, Asmera, Matsawa, Assebe....you name it! Where are you now, fool? Not that Ethiopian's can't destroy them in days, but that you are still their stupid slaves like you were when they were bandits.

P.s. I know Addis Girl can slap you right left the way she did that retard by the name of yahoo aka Z-Mike/Z-monkey/Z-mice, i just couldn't control myself after reading your garbage. And, don't mistake us for your tribalist expiring generation, we are the new breed and we intend to make Ethiopia the beautiful lady she was before your arrival!

Bliss, you have made a good point! Also, think about the amount of resource the woyane's wasted, the way contracts have been awarded, the level of corruption and pillaging. Take ETC's business dealings with badly failed Chinese companies, the standards of the roads and buildings, the poorly equipped schools including the shortage of even unqualified instructors, the listless education quality as a result........ just to mention a few. Don't forget, today, after "so much economic development" 15 percent of the total population is waiting for international alms, 15% for Gods sake! What kind of economic development would do that for a country, lol. Yes, the Woyane themselves and their cronies have pillaged the country's scarce resource and the international grants, but today, economically speaking, Ethiopians are worse off than they were in the pre-Woyane era. If there have been any growth, it is the level of disparity and the population along with the infection of Aids. Now, that is what Halafi and the rest of the Woyanes are never get tired of bragging. Anyway, what am I talking about, from AdwaV to Woyane, Minilek to Meles..... Woy Mealti ale Tigre....

As I said before, the more I read your comments, the more I realize that you are mentally unstable. It took me 30 years to defeat ASKARIS? I didn’t know I was a soldier in my PAST LIFE :p or you expect me to know what on earth Askaris is?

Oh, please! Do not lecture me about developments in Ethiopia as I am continuously in and out of my Precious country and witness what is going on there first hand. Go and tell the empty weyane bravado to people who haven’t been to Ethiopia lately. I know exactly what goes on there and where the poor people of Ethiopia stand in current Ethiopia.

The churches are full of beggars and streets full of prostitutes, unemployed youth and street kids. Standard of living still the lowest ever, and majority of people living under the same condition as hundreds of years ago.

Some sky high buildings, couple of roads, the night clubs/restaurants/cafes you brag about mainly in Addis are direct result of foreign investors aka majority Ethiopians living outside of Ethiopia plus IMF’s strict conditional funding/cancelled debt in return to infrastructure!

Where on earth do you think all the revenue comes from? Tigray’s rocky land or Weyane pockets? Who do you think is trying to build Ethiopia? It is definitely Ethiopians. Weyane is too busy looting our national reserves and selling mama Ethiopia.

Only a handful Ethiopians and mostly Weyanes enjoy the so called wealth while majority of Ethiopians still live primitively in current Ethiopia.

Instead of telling us about radio stations weyane built for their propaganda purposes, and few less credible institutes, why don’t you talk about over 95% of Ethiopians still with no clean running water, electricity, proper road, telephone lines, basic food to eat, proper shelter over their heads, sewage system, basic education for their children, shall I go on?

Why don’t you talk about over inflated prices for almost EVERYTHING? Despite all your baseless new wealthy Ethiopia, why is it that the country never moved a single step forward in terms of poverty index and still worse than any era? Why is it that we have people starving while farming/producing lucrative export commodities and earning weyane massive foreign currency? Where is all the poor farmers blood & sweat going? Why is it that we have endless food aid flooding Djibouti port? Why is Meles begging for money and food non stop? Is it because Weyane made Ethiopians so rich and developed eh? If it is, it is certainly not showing on the ground.

If I were you, I would just mute! Shameless TPLF cadre or shall I say Dumped/ex cadre?

Do you know how many tigrigna speaking Askaris are fleeing the country every month? In the next five years most of the youth highlanders will be gone to exile and the oldies will die due to starvation, poor condition to live in Artera and the killing by your ruler half cast Tigray – Artera Issayas. Artera will be the land of Kunama, Saho and Tigre very soon and will be easy for us to take it over easily and our brothers the above ethnic groups will live happily with Ethiopian brothers.

Ras Alula left Artera during the Mettema war with Mahdi. After King Yohannes death, Ras Alula went back to his home Tembien not Artera. When the Italian advanced to Adwa Ras Alula followers were from Tigray mainly Tembien. Ras Alula never had any contact or solders from Artera. The Hamassien Askaris were with General Albertone on the left side of the war and crushed by Ras Alula armies and the center by Ras Mengesha Yohannes and the king Menelik Armies including brave Oromos brothers finished them all.

You Askaris were with the side of Italian armies and you were in front of them and you were the shell of the enemies. The Ethiopians killed all Askaris before they wiped out all Italians.

In 1935 you fathers 25,000 Askaris were sent with the Italians to the front WERI – Adwa Tembien border to fight Ras Kasa and Ras seyoum Mengesha. The other front via Zalambesa 4000 your fathers Askaris were with the Italians to face Ras Mulegeta.

And we know, and you accept that Massawa and assab were colonized by Italian colonialists. Moreover, to suit your claim, you put Eritrean maps under Ethiopian territory.

The question now is, If, as you claim Eritrea to have been part of Ethiopia, besides of Italian colonization of Ethiopia, in the heart land of Addis Ababa, are you accepting that Ethiopia was colonized by the Italians?

Lekim the LEQEMQAMI,

You tribalist pest, why don't u read history books about Adwa battle or for that matter about major battles before you write your filthy and idiotic remarks. Have u ever heard of the term called 'Command Post' or "command central'? These posts are located outside the battle fronts and that's where you will find the leaders and the top generals. That was the case with the greatest leaders and generals whether it was Napoleon, General Eisenhower, Marshall Zukovetc.. The onetime TPLF AGELGAY Tesfaye Gebreab wrote in his recent book when TPLF & its allies were taking Addis Ababa, the one u worship Legesse Zenawi or TPLF's top general then Seye Abraha were in their command central posts in Mekelle. I am not equating Legesse Zenawi with those great leaders and great Generals. I just want to remind your peti-tribalist mind to reflect/think a little bit. As someone above tried to teach you & your tribalist moron friends, though majority of Ethiopians admire ATSE Yohannes for giving his life in the battle front, it was unnecessary for the Emperor to find himself in the thick of the killing field when the battle was still winnable by his army. ATSE Tewodros case was different because he had lost all his comrades in battle and as a result the battle. That was not the case with ATSE Yohannes. Still, except few tribalist morons majority Ethiopians revered both Emperors as well as ATSE Menelik. This is not to mean these emperors are not without their faults. Read serious history books (not those revisionist written by cadres) and they would give you full account of their weaknesses and their strengths. Majority of Ethiopians revere these leaders, because they raise above tribal chiefdom and earned respect to Ethiopia to be recognised as a sovereign state equal to any sovereign state of the world. I can go on and on to teach u history tiribalist moron, let me stop here for the moment.

Halfi Mengedi,
Good progress atleast I see u are learning.

AMICHE,the Italian worshipper,
Learn the difference between colonisation and occupation. Italia under the fascist regime led by Mussolini occupied Ethiopia hinterland for five years, as Nazi-Germany occupied France for few years during WWII and USA occupying Iraq for almost seven years now. No serious historian had ever claimed Italia colonised Ethiopia. Besides, Assab was acquired thru lease the same way the British were operating in Hong Kong or USA operating the Panama Canal. Unfortunately, MEREB MELASH was colnised, and the inhabitants subjugated to worst form of Apartheid type of rules. The sad part is some are proud not that of their pre-colonisation heritage but of this humiliating and degrading colonial experience. Pittiful!

However, now the fact that Eritrea is gone even validates the point that Ethiopia is indeed the true, pure independent country in the world. So I say, good riddance!

UFO Bliss says, "So I say, good riddance! "

Loser, how many fathers, uncles, brothers, cousins and friends have you lost to "colonize" and reclaim Eritrea? Already forgot it? Why now claim, "Good riddance"? you admitted that it is a lost cause. Circumstantially, you have admitted that Eritrea was an independent country that your nefTegna cousins cannot claim. Thank you. That answered my primary question. And I accept your rejection as a nefTegna, since you admitted Eritrea and Ethiopia were two separate states, to begin with.

The other point is that, even your history teachers from my early school years have taught us that Theodros was the one leader who untited Ethiopian 14th provinces as "One Ethiopia". If Theodros united the 14 provinces as "One Ethiopia", including Eritrea, then by default, Ethiopia was admittedly colonized by Italy. You know, you can take your cake and eat it at the same time, so to speak.

We know the American led so called "International Community" defines thing the way it wants, to benefit out of it. That's why you see American crisis, in front of the whole inchilada. It is American sabotage that led us become under Ethiopian federation, so they could use Red Sea, to their interest. I don't care what the American lead story is written to exploit the Eritrean question. What I know is that Eritreans never wanted to be part of Ethiopia, period. That's why and how we became independent, despites the "International Community"'s sabotage. Rather, GOOD RIDDACE of ETHIOPIAWINET! Now, I can be what ever I want to be, right? You think so!

Finally, yewega biresa yetewega ayresa newina, don't pretend you protected Eritrea. NEVER. You bled Eritrea to looting, death, and destruction, economically, militarily, culturally, and socially, to write off our history to no avail, but WE NEVER KNELT DOWN, till INDEPENDECE, becoming our own masters!

One more, UFO tirifrafi.
No Eritrean claims Alula to be his or hers. Eritreans were united AS ONE because of, among other main issues, the Tigrai looters, decendents of Alula. If there was one single issue that brings ALL Eritreans together, I believe, is, looters of Tigrai, the decendents and clonning of Alula and NefTegninet of Amharans. So, don't twist history.

NefTegninet and looting costs but NEVER pays off! Learn from history so you won't lose others, as well!

And are you saying that, If Ethiopia was never colonized by Italy, according to "serious historians" [not fake ones], the Colonized Eritrea was NEVER part of Ethiopia?
I need answer !

The other thing is, don't twist history. No Eritrean was proud of being colonized by Italians or others. That is why, despite the geopolitical situation and the early weakness in organizational skills of Eritreans as a country, no Eritrean accepted any colonization in a silver platter. We've fought every colonizer and pseudo colonizer agent on his way, till INDEPENDENCE. It took us thiry years as an organized entity to destroy an enemy who for decades brutalized our citizens for Whites' cause. Now we're the most proud citizens in modern history. The rest is a matter of time.

As far as I'm concerned, once again, I would prefer the Italians' colony that debelo, TibiKo lebash denKoro ahiya Southern who knows nothing but, servitude, death, and destruction, who claims others'.

And, you "Independent minded "Real Africans denegratee Eritreans as Italians' "banda". Answer, ASAP. Thank you! can i tell you something eritrea was found by a gevnour from tigray it had nothing but rocks and people from tigray got sent there to live and build something .i know the story well because who found it happens to be one of my people but guess what i care less and im not bothered to argue over something thats worthless .but if you think hard then you might understand what im saying you didn't just come from another planet and happen to speak tigringa by accident okay find out your routes.

Lekim, the Lekakami!
Why don't you read the one time TPLF AGELGAY's book and what he said about the whereabout of Seye on Ginbot 21, the day TPLF TEGADELTIs entered Addis. Or is it because you don't read in Amharic the petty tribalist!

I am not here to teach you battle leadership theories. Show me of recent war theatres where you see the commander-in-chief or the head of states are directly in the thick of war. I will state it again, unlike your patethic tribalist mind, majority of Ethiopians including me, have high regard for the heroic deeds of Emperor Yohannes and the victorious Ethiopian army he led. You see, majority of Ethiopians are not blinded by tribal pettiness and recognise the heroic deeds of only ther ethnic kins.

AMICHE the Italian worshipper,
From the pen name u use, I assume that u are "assembled" in Ethiopia from parent whose origin is Italian Artera. If that is the case, u must have learned in your school years about one Sultan Ibrahim who had leased Assab to an Italian shipment & cargo company called Rubaitino for cheap. The Italian company in return ceded its rights and sold it to the Italian government in 1881. The main purpose of the Italian government's acuisition of Assab was to use it to encroach further territories in the region as a springboard for their colonial ambitions. Colonial powers used the method of acquiring ports or coastal regions first to encroach further into hinterland.
BTW, during my school years in Addis as may be the case in other parts of Ethiopia, the Sultan was butt of jokes for everything refering to selling one's land for TIRIFRAFI.

It is historical fact, that the land we call now Artera was carved out of Ethiopia and was colonised by Italy. The same can be said about Hong Kong and Macao which were carved out of China by the British and by the Portuguese respectively. However, once the colonial arrangement is over, these territories were reclaimed by the mother nation and the residents asked to rejoin their fellow citizens. Despite the denial by revisionist historians and LF cadres, that is what happened in Artera when Italian colonisers left in defeat. Yes, Legessi Wedi Banda have complicated things by asking for international recognition of Artera. But, I have no doubt in the future that voice to rejoin the motherland will be heard again, when the leagcy of the double-headed hydra in Addis & Asmara is thrown out to the dustbin of history.

AMICHE bambini,
I don't mind to be your history teacher, if it clears your confused and brainwashed mind out of Italian worshipping.

Free,

Thx. for directing us into reading Gelawdewos. I raised his name but didn't put an indicator to his website. And thanks not to refer to Challenger's author. It is flat and scandalous.

Dear Gashe/ Wondim / Hawna Lekim on Menelik page is active. yes while many Naz. men reviewing on Allula. You know what, Lekim has (a grain of) truth, thus I understand his anger, on Ethiopia's two last monarchs. I know many stories, i have heard it from many Northern people a number of Nortern Mesfins - some of them throne contenders - were pitilessly tortured and killed around Entoto (Qusquam) and other prisons.
We need to know more if someone can high light us.

A great grand son of great teacher and himself a great teacher, T. W. H. is also critical of our penultimate monarch. So we need to know the truth.

But what I say is the Past has passed and we have to look forward to look also the greater deeds of one event or one personae not his failures. We have to weigh in a golden scale, his good and bad deeds. Also to be optimal in the time of all our enemies want to play down on us.

I like your defense of Ethiopia, immediately hitting ev. body who you think are dangerous. Even i like myself when critisised on my weakest stands.

I still respect Gashe(s) (Akotatei) Lekim and Shewa although they don't seem to think the same way. But surprisingly they converse.

Cheers and beat the drum of freedom always.

ciao, young man

Zquamiche

I swear, there will come a day when you will BEG, yes I said BEG big bald BEGGING and you will do so on your knees, to once again be part of Ethiopia. Mark these words! I hope you're praying for your hatred eaten body to last long enough to witness that event! What I also would like to tell you is that you before that will realize what kind hell it is to be in your shoes, today tomorrow! That all this hate was in vain, that there is no way to go without mother Ethiopia.

you said

"I don't blame some of the Eritreans' choice to side Italia, against debelo lebash nefTegna from ethiopia. "

See for your self and read what you wrote on this public forum you retarded moron! You're an embarrassment not only to Ethiopians but Africa as whole! And I mean you Zquamiche and the likes of you. Alula's only mistake was that he didn't chop all your limbs off and throw you from a cliff like Tewdros did. But how would he have known who was true Ethiopian or a traitor disguised as one? Now their breeds such as you, have taken over both Ethiopia and your so called Eritrea. But don't be so sure of yourself Mr. QelawaCh. History will not be altered by a bunch of subhumans like yourself and as far as Ethiopian history is concerned, it was written by the blood and bones of her precious sons daughters and it will continue to be that way once the ruthless, mercenary, heartless, cannibalistic and barbarian criminals of 4Kilo are wiped out off Emaye Ethiopia. Adwa became a graveyard of our forefathers and you good for nothing pest alike loser won't even give us a room to sip an air of freedom on that day? No wonder you sided with you enslavers. You're a very sad subhuman.

ps do not waste your time worrying, we will never ever need to reclaim your ass back, because you will crawl on all 4 back to US! Your fate as opposed to ours is unwritten and random but you will certainly end up in the caring arms of Ethiopia once again.

Helena

We all know that you sure do know that it is the other way around so don't try come across a confused soul so as to make us feel bad for you, you porkheaded moron!
