Ethiopian Airlines' Cargo Service would be profitable in the coming few years.
Source: ENA
Ethiopian Airlines Operation Operating Officer, Tewolde Gebre-mariam told ENA on Monday that the cargo service is operating with loss because of the imbalance between import and export goods.
The cargo service was established mainly to transport export goods such as flower cuts, vegetables, fruits and meat, among others.
However, he said, the service is operating under loss because of the imbalance between the volume of import and export goods being transported by the airline in and out of the country.
The amount of the loss being incurred by the service is being reduced from year to year.
Tewlde said the service is expected to be profitable in the next few years due to the closing in the gap between the import and export volume.
Ethiopian has been providing cargo service with two Boeing 757aicrafts previously. But now it has bought two A.M.D. cargo planes whose capacity is greater than by three-fold than that of Boeing 757.
