Ethiopian Millennium to be Celebrated by Ethiopians in Los Angeles

Ethiopian Millennium Coordinating Committee of Los Angeles
February 21, 2007

For Immediate Release

Little Ethiopia

Ethiopians all over the world will celebrate our own millennium in September 2007. To date, Millennium events are planned in grand fashion in
Washington DC, London and Australia .

The Ethiopian Millennium Coordinating Committee of Los Angeles was established by interested individuals to have a millennium celebration for all Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia in the West Coast.

The Coordinating Committee has held regular meetings to lay the ground work for this event to take place in Los Angeles around the first weekend in September. Our vision is to make the Los Angeles Millennium event a regional event in which Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia from California, State of Washington, Oregon, Nevada etc join us for a three day event that will include symposium, art, music, cultural fashion show, youth program and poetry reading to celebrate Ethiopia’s uniqueness. Our objectives include introducing Ethiopia's diverse
culture to others and to recognize remarkable Ethiopians and friends of Ethiopia who have made contributions to the betterment of Ethiopia and its people.

The Los Angeles Coordinating Committee held its first public meeting on Sunday, February 18, 2007 to announce its plans to invited community members. The Coordinating Committee is in the process of putting together a Millennium Celebration Committee(MCC) that will include Ethiopians from all walks of lives. We would like to invite interested individuals, businesses, non profit organizations and all faith based establishments to join us for this once in a life time event. We believe this will give our community an opportunity to introduce the rich history of Ethiopia to other communities and be part of the legacy that the coming generation will be proud of.

Yes, we got to stay away from TPLF's bogus "celebration". The crazy TPLF believes that Ethiopia has only a 100 years long history. But now they are preparing to celebrate the 2nd millennium/ 2000 thousand years of history/. A baboon's bald buttock is far better that TPLF's propaganda machine.

I canceld my flight to ethiopia as far as woyane is in power. I don't went to celebrate this imprtant day with a killer in a police state.
For the sake of you brothers and sisters an for those in prison, stay away from woyane baby killer. This will use your celebration for his advantage.

Don't celebrate with killers!!!

Che,
What you are talking about is inconsistent. Ethiopia's having 100,1000,10,000yrs of history has nothing to do with the millennium we are going to celebrate. According to Eth.hist.101, the present Ethiopia has a 100 yrs history. For instant, during the Axumite time, there was the Axumite Kingdom, then the Solomon dynasty/kingdom came, next the Gondarian kingdom. All these kingdoms never administered the whole region of the present Ethiopia and never had been called Ethiopia. Most regions of Oromia had their own independent sultans/rulers; for example, in Jimma, Bale, Arsi and Harerigi. It is more or less under Minilik that the present Ethiopia is born. History goes like this : Menelik's regime was hampered by stubborn drought ("kifu kene" starvation), and he conquered the southern and south-eastern regions of the present Ethiopia to secure food. Perhaps you have read or heard about King Tona of Wolayeta who fooled Menilik with a lot of cows in the plain field.(Don't tell me that all these are fabricated by woyannes!)

Anyway, It doesn't matter much whether we have 3000 or 30 yrs of history (unless we are historians who make our lives out of it). Well we could have said we have 3,500,000,000 yrs of history since Lucy if figure matters most! What is important is the question are we living a decent life right now? Can we feed ourselves without the help of the giant Bulls, can we sustain a long lasting peace? Is it possible to build harmony and respect among the people, can we build tolerance among ourselves, Can we leave a better situation for the next generations?

I read a new ironic definition for a philosopher , it says a fool who torments himself in his life time, to be praised after his death. It is pretty much the same, you are happy to accept this poverty-stricken country as it was and is as long as her 3000yrs history is acknowledged. Try to make history; but don't be slave of history.

Hm, for me, Ethiopia is not only the land but also more importantly the people known under that name. I don't support a blind connection with the NAME, and the FLAG which is supposed to represent the people. It is shame to see people trying to make us slave of the name of the country and its flag (What an obsolete ideology!).

For me, the flag is chosen to represent us. So, basically it can be changed if there is a good reason to do so. By the way, The present flag is adopted from Ethiopian orthodox church by the old kings to connect themselves with the church and the King Solomon genealogy, that is why some of us are so sensitive about the flag!). To be honest, I don't oppose to unite Ethiopia with Somalia, Kenya, and other countries and consequently lose the present name as long as we get a long lasting and better benefits out of the deal. Or shall we die for the name and the flag? You have your own choice! However, I want to underline that still we can do our best with out changing the name of the country and the flag to improve the lives of Ethiopians; hence our country Ethiopia. Let us give priority to the people and then to the flag and the name which represent the people!
Hm, Have I tormented myself? I don't think so!

Cheers,

Dear Python, I personally think that this comment of yours is the second best I have ever read from you. Very well said big snake, I can not agree more! May be, you will allow a little extension. The name Ethiopia came from a Greek word meaning "sunburned faces or hot faces." The Greeks called all people south of Egypt Ethiopians because of their darker skin. Abyssinia was the name used before by the old Kingdoms in the North. But, that fact that the current day Ethiopia has three thousand years of history is a complete nonsense. However, can we keep the flag though? Peace

Dear Coolman,
I completely agree with your comment. Ah, I have missed the spice of my writting. You pointed it out nicely. Many thanks.

Oh the flag, I'm happy about it. It is taken from the common perception of rainbow("yemariam mekenet") which is to mean HOPE of GRACE. It is a colourful and meaningful flag. However, what I want to stress is that the flag represents Us and if we aren't good and self supportive, the meaning of the flag is meaningless("feyel wedi kezemzem wedya"). Hm, it is irony that that colorful flag stands for the misearable people of our country!

Hope the flag is gonna be a symbol of prosperity, tolerance, love, unity, and generally everything good in addition to our patriotism.

Madam Reptile,

When Ethiopians defended the soverneigty of their country and thus the flag that represents it, they were actually protecting their culture and social values that defines Ethiopia and Ethiopiawinet. It was not just for the love of the three horizontal strips of colours rather their determination to preserve what was thought to be Ethiopia for the next generation including the land that we can live on, ideologies we value, and identity we are so proud of, our freedom to live as humans, and the place where Ethiopiawinet is respected, our land Ethiopia. If Ethiopians of the Minilik era were not victorious, Ethiopiawinet could have been defined by our slavery to Italians, our alphabets and century old manuscripits would have been endargered or banished at all in favour of their Roman history, we would have been forced to value what italians value, forced to speak their language, forced to practice their religion.....all at the cost of our own identity which is known as Ethiopia's and represented by Green, Yellow, and Red! If you are not willing to be the slave of your identity, the slave to your country, the slave to ideologies you value then you have nothing. And a life of that kind is not worth of living and for sure is not something to be proud of as it resembles the life of the cows. When you defend the flag and the land, you are defending your freedom and the things you value. What is Ethiopiawinet for you? You woanyes are good at destroying history with out making a single one. Ofcourse we are not going to change/renouce our heritage/culture and identity for the sake creating a big east african nation. NO NO NO, thousands of Ethiopians have perished for the love of it and for sure we will never allowe 'yededebit duriyes' to compromise it with anything. NOthing values more than our Ethiopiawinet, You get that!? And you are right that we Ethiopians will start exceling the global competetion with out selling our identity, but the removal of such cursed creatures called woyanes is a necessity. Madam Reptile, we dont have a 3.5 million history, the Axumite kingdom is the foundation of Ethiopia which dates back 3 thousand years. Anybody that thinks the history of ours is nonsense, the problem and flaws is not with our history rather it is with your seriously corrupted dung head that is not capable of analysing simple facts and making sense out of it.

Oh, ya, the coming millinium celebration makes sense only for those who values their identity and have some sense of respect for their heritage and the flag which represents that. Che thank you, i fully agree with you!

Free,
I never denied that our forefathers defended themselves from external aggressors and colonizers. Surely they were brave when it comes to war and still we are so. Otherwise ask Shaabia and UIC,LOL. Keep in mind that those people defended Italy and other aggressors for their own sake, with ideology used as a tool to buy people support. Do you really think that they primarly fought to hand uncolonized Ethiopia to the next generation? Believe me they fought for themselves. IT WASN'T AN ANGLE THEY REFUSED TO SUBJUGATE FOR, IT WAS A COLONIZER WHO WOULD HAVE REPRESSED THEM.

Next, whatever you say, the flag, Ethiopia bhla, bhla is an ideology that stand on our behalf. So if we are poor, the flag represents we the poor, If we are intolerant to other idea, then the flag represent the people who are intolerant so forth.

Let us not tie our selves with the sick ideology that flag first even though the flag comes behind us. To put it simply, if we aren't there (the people of Ethiopia) the flag isn't there, as simple as that.

So my idea is we first and then comes the colorful flag with its diginity; for it represents US.

As to the millennium, my friend we are going to celebrate it weather we are colonized or not, hm may be we would have celebrated some years ago. Unless you missed the point, here we are counting time which is never ever affected by human deeds. The tick-tack goes whatever you were and you are.(hm physicists talk about time reversal in space-time dimension when we move beyond speed of light). Thanks GOD humanity will never attain that, at least in a foreseeable future. Otherwise you CUD guys will take us to the time of Tedi, and rule us again for the next 100 years. Kidding!

Cool down man, I acknowledge your ideology. You can be a slave for the flag, it isn't a sin, if that is your choice. However, let me celebrate the millennium with you all, because it has nothing to do with the ideology of Ethiopia/Ethiopiawnet/Ethiopianism... and the flag.

Finally, Thanks to our forefathers! Hadn't been for them, I would have celebrated the millennium seven years ago without any attention from the rest of the world!

Cheers,

For me, it represents me, my parents, friends, the colorful people, language, the land, and culture etc. If I were up to comfortable discussion; I could have taken side with one party of the other and ignored my conscience. You see, the thing is, many here accuse others for not being fair and democratic, and at the same these very people are so intolerant against different opinion. You may follow the pattern of some, just for the sake of it. Those with a clear a mind and goodwill see the difference. Being emotional may bring a hollow cheer from people with the same feather but does not add any value to arguments per se. Anyone can say what he/she wants to say. No problem with me. "Keep in mind that those people defended Italy and other aggressors for their own sake, with ideology used as a tool to buy people support."...Python

who are you refering to when you say "those people"? you can write whatever you want on your woyane version of Ethiopian history, but the fact is the Tewodros, Yohannes and Minilik of Ethiopia has gave it all purly for the love of their people, their country and identity. When they fought for "their own sake", they are infact protecting Ethiopia and Ethiopiawinet, because as you said it, if they fail to secure their liberty to live as a free society both, the land we call Ethiopia and the idoelogy Ethiopiawinet could have NOT made it this far. There is no such a thing called next generation with out the present generation. One who wants to secure the freedom of his/her offsprings must be willing to secure his/her freedom first, no matter what the cost is, becuase if he/she surrenders/compromises his/her freedom, his/her offsprings will be an outright slaves or can not come into existence at all. Comeon Madam Reptile, no one is going to ask you to pay a tax for the sacrifice they have made so that you can keep your head up and proudly say i am Ethiopian.

No one ever says the flag comes before Ethiopians themselves. we know that neither the flag nor Ethiopiawinet can exist with out Ethiopianis themselves and that is exactly what i have said up there. Nevertheless, as long as we are a live, we will never tolerate those who dare to tarnish and degrade our flag that symbolizes the sacrifice, courage, patriotism and absolute love to our country Ethiopia of the past generation holds the the identity and values of Ethiopiawinet for this and future generation. Have you seen how our flag raise up up to the sky on Badime? They were meant, this represents who we are, Ethiopians with our full Ethiopiawinet that we have inherited from our brave forefathers!

Oh yes the millinium has a lot to do with Ethiopia, Ethiopiawinet/Ethiopianism. In fact it is known as Ethiopia's Millinium! If it wasnt for Ethiopia and Ethiopianism, there wouldnt be anyone who would celebrate the Millinium a few months later. For such ideas to exist(all ideas infact), humans who values and practice them must exist, and in this we are there to do that.

coolman,

Let us hear you saying the things that makes our three thousand history nonsense. BTW, Madam Reptile was saying s/he would have married Meles or Haile if s/he had the chance. Free,
"we will never tolerate those who dare to tarnish and degrade our flag that symbolizes the sacrifice, courage, patriotism and absolute love to our country Ethiopia "

I hope it isn’t a shear message to me!

You are still confused with my ideas. You have said what I have said except minor differences.

1.Ethiopia has 3000 yrs of history? No. I think we believe in evidence. If it so, the Ethiopia (including Harar, Diredewa, Bale, Gambella,...) has around a 100yrs history. Even some of the present territory included to the now known Ethiopia in the late emperor Hailesilassie time. For instance, Kebridhare, Jijiga,... joined us when Britain colonizers left Somalia. Did the Axumite call themselves Ethiopians? It is we who are calling them so to fit our ideology. My friend, even on their coins , it reads Axumite Kingdom. There is no a bit of evidence in our history that testifies your argument.

2. The flag must be respected? Why not man? because if I degrade it, I degrade the people it stands for. But the point is don’t enslave ourselves under the notion of blind Ethiopianism/ethiopiawinet. For example, you said that you never let Ethiopia change its name and flag if there is an opportunity to unify with neighborind countries for the sake of better life. Do you think that the other countries hate to retain their names?

I personally don’t mind about the name as long as there is good reason to change it. For instance, if a super force ask me that Ethiopian people will be prosperous if I make a deal to change the name of the country and its flag. I’m very Happy to endorse the deal. I happy to hear prosperous people of " with the new name" than Hunger stricken Ethiopia.

By the way, you should be ashamed of yourself, if you are arguing with me having a USA citizenship/passport. I don’t mean that you are wrong, but it doesn’t go with your argument. Ah out of point!

3.The millennium is known as Ethiopian millennium because it is we Ethiopians who are going to celebrate it. Still celebration of the millennium is the matter of tick-tack of time. History only decorates the way we are going to celebrate it. As I wrote, If there is no Ethiopianwinet, we would have celebrated it seven years ago. That is it!

4. Sorry honestly I’m not lady. I sometimes write as a lady to seduce people. Ladies are powerful; have special attracting force. If you don’t believe, I can assure you by sending my fatty pic.

A few comments about the 3000 years. Why is it limited to 3000 years? Because of Sheba and Solomon, a matter disputed by Yemen. Axum steeles are from about 200 AD.
Many Ethiopian have died defending their liberty for 3000 year. Allow me to point out that ten times more people have died because of flies and lack of potable water.
The tricolor flag with and without the cross-eyed and three legged lion, reminiscent of Abune T...., you know who, the guy with one leg, is no more than a corporate logo. One of my problems with it is the fact that I have bought a lot of toilet paper with exactly the three colours and I feel sad every time I flush my toilet. By the way, the tricolor is very common in African countries and Ethiopia has no monopoly there. You flag should not be represented by a piece of cloth by your hearts and minds, you development plans for your country, your efforts to show the love of your country through action and not just talk or bragging. Flag or history or tradition is not going to feed people.
Millenium celebrations; suppose I refuse to go to a concert at the Metropolitan, if you know where that is (and I don't mean the parking lot), do you thing the Metropolitan is any the poorer for that? Think again, although this may be hard for Che. I look forward to it and I shall be there, comme l'habitude, mes amis. Come on , join us. Vist your family and friends. Rejoice for once on behalf of Ethiopia. This is a day that comes only once in every 1000 years.
As far as dear Lucy goes, I think she must be the ancestor of Che.

By the way, when is CUD to close down?

Do not make me laugh. Look back and what do you see? Distraction after distraction being made by woyanne. So, what did you do for the past 17 years?

Where did I hear that “a piece of cloth” before? Am I sensing inferiority complex here?

For us who loves it dearly, with its majesty look our flag will be flying up high on the mountains of every continent ለዘለአለም period.

It is better to celebrate millinum at home land. But for people who can not go, it is a good idea to celebrate it in USA. Whereeve you celebrate it, try to be free from poletical sprit. Let's think positively and do our part to develop our country.

God bless Ethiopia.

Thunder, I did explain my self repeatedly. Python did the same. You know what? If you want to believe, so be it. That is then a religion and not history. As the old saying goes “Haymanot yegil, hager ye-gara new” Cheering for a tyrant? What is that suppose to mean? Who is my tyrant that I cheered for? You distort my statements which are there for everyone to see, which are not even minutes old; you can check and re-read them; even then you come up with your wish-version, interpreted to fit your pre-made template, and accuse me as you please. How can you possible be taken as credible history analyst? How fair is that in your mind? You accuse the government for being tyrannical, what would you do with me and Python if you were in power and we refused to accept your song of 3002 (one year with kind regards from Python) years of history? Ach, I know, you said it already—we will be sent to Eritrea. Concerning prisoners of conscience, I do not support the imprisonment of political opponents. I stated this in many occasions. But, this issue is not the one that is being discussed here. Free, I would never say history is nonsense. The country Ethiopia that we know is not 3000 years old. Saying it was is nonsense. I hope you see the difference. I can make out from your writings that you are bright enough to look for the right information, if you wanted to. However, if you wish, I can provide you with description of the historical facts and gladly state them for you. As a wise man once said, “some times, it does not matter where you come from, it matters where you are going”. Python, You forgot to include the Oromo regions, which were also conquered by Minelik II and added to the empire. Peace

The Python,

Man, you are chingaf man! Dont you have a little pride, respect and dignity for who you are? Your forefathers at the cost of their blood secured you one of the greatest gift in all of Africa, that is your freedom, your country, your culture and identity in its orginality. The privilage we have been enjoying to live as a free society in our country has been the driving force of all black people in the world to start fighting for their freedom and independence. They idiolized our leaders, our country, our flag, our courage and determination.......And here you are to SELL it! Hey, our economical and political problems are the by product of our own problems, and they can be solved when the majority of Ethiopians understood if we work hard in unison Nothing is impossible. I can assure you that Selling your country, identity and thus yourself is not the way to go. No no no, we have soo much respect for who we are!!!

And, it does not matter what is stamped on the Axumites coin, What matters is they are our ancestors! We are not making them Ethiopians out of nothing rather based on the living evidences on the ground @ AXUM TSION MARIAM which is part of Ethiopia! Dear Python, we are not willing to earase our glorious history, our foundation, our roots because other ethnic Ethiopians are not willing to embrace as Ethiopias, as their own. We respect and embrace their history, we are very proud of the Aba Jifar , the Harar Gimb.....and others as they are Ethiopia's and we are Ethiopians. We expect others to do so when it comes to the centuries old glories of the Norther Ethiopians. As i said earlier we have so much respect and pride for who we are, not all of us are 'Chingafs'!

good day,
