Ethiopians march against Meles Zenawi at G20 Summit in Pittsburgh

nazret.com - Ethiopian patriots dressed in green, yellow and red colors of the Ethiopian flag marched against Ethiopia's authoritarian leader Meles Zenawi, who is attending the G20 summit for the second time representing Africa. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that protesters came by bus from nearby states including Maryland, Ohio, New York City, Washington DC and and Boston.

Here is an excerpt from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"But for Mekdese Kassa, who was part of a group of about 30 people protesting against the government of Ethiopia, the money is part of the problem.

Referring to American aid to Ethiopia, Mr. Kassa said: "We are saying that U.S. money is being used to kill women and children as a form of genocide, and we want the G-20 to listen. We are focusing on human rights. Human rights violations in Ethiopia are worse than any country, you name it."

Mr. Kassa, who manages a cancer center in Baltimore, was part of a sizeable contingency of Ethiopians who came to Pittsburgh by bus from Washington, D.C., Maryland, Ohio, New York City and Boston.

They protested the regime of Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, whom they described as a dictator who imprisons his opposition consisting of people like Birtukan Mideksa -- a 35-year-old former judge and mother of a 4-year-old sentenced to life in prison by the government.

Dressed in the green, yellow and red colors of the Ethiopian flag, they called on U.S. taxpayers and the governments of G-20 countries to halt financial backing to Ethiopia, Sudan and Zimbabwe for war crimes and suppression of democracy."

And Mark Roth of Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes for the Big Story Blog under the title "Ethiopians protest for jailed leader".

The following is an excerpt from the report:

"About noon today, a group of protestors against the current Ethiopian government gathered at the corner of Liberty and Fifth avenues Downtown, seeking fair elections in that country and release of an imprisoned opposition leader, Birtukan Mideksa, a 35-year-old former judge and mother of a 4-year-old child who has been sentenced to life in prison by the government of prime minister Meles Zenawi."

Bravo PM Meles for representing Africa! We are proud of you. Don´t give to those crying dogs with no teeth in the streets of western countries. They are jobless frustrated and desperate compatriots, who lost hope of coming to power again. The more you appear in the news of the international arena, the worse they are feeling inside. They are becoming crazy from time to time. Thanx for continuing the coming term, most of them will die by then.

Some times it is prudent to do some soul searching why is the man at the fore front of leading international conferences with powerfull countries.he was at G7(group of indusralized nations, not of course girgir 7 lead by Shiberu Nega and his thugs),G8 and G20.The whole african continent spoke in one voice to represent them in the next copenhagen negotiation,he was at the clinton global intiative.Tell me now according to diaspora land he is fooling the whole world but them.Com'n guys you should think better than that.Like any other leader he has some domestic policies that we don't agree but that is what democracy is all about. The desperation on the part of the extreme diaspora is understandable, there is unmistakable development and booming in the coutry, albeit with cruel inflation. The diaspora is smelling defeat even before the voters venture to the ballot booth. They don't believe in elections and constructive engagement;may I add they don't have the capacity to do so.They grow up in violence and killings in the dergue era. Most of them needs RX for post truamatic disorder.Surely but grdually their numbers are dwingling as witnessed in the protest. The guys who are day in and day out calling for "violent struggle" from the mountains of pennsylvania don't have the courage to walk down even to pittsburg.

why africa has to be represented on G20 summit? And if there is a need, isnt there South Africa to represent itself and its continent? and why other nations not take turns? last time it was the PM of Ethiopia, why not the president of Egypt this time? Isnt Egypt the one that gets the most aid in africa?
But the PM is strong and accepting the invitations for the sake of good relationship. He looks ill also and that is probably what made his wife mad.

Whether a few or thirty Ethiopian Patriots are able to defeat a senseless ignorant regime. To all those alien puppets who don@t agree with cutting off aid to the secessionist regime are in fear of their own demise, for without this aid the regime will crumble easily and Ethiopians will be in charge of their own natural wealth through co-operative enterprise. "It is not necessary to enumerate countries where the people and the entire country having lost unity, spiritual or otherwise, have become playgrounds and laughing stocks to outsiders. The historical events of certain countries bear witness to this fact. In our times, there are those expansionists who by shedding blood, desire to achieve their ambition and by dismembering themselves they are seen as tools for alien interests. Our people from Ethiopia shed blood, to save themselves from disintegration. Those personalities who believe in freeing a country by secession are selfish and prey to outsiders. We will not accept their motives." Negus Haile Selassie, Long Live the Constitutional Monarchy, down with the star of witchcraft, Rise with the Lion of Judah, Long Live Independent Ethiopia!

:D protesting is becoming a full time job for the toxic diasporas:D

"Mekdese Kassa, who was part of a group of about 30 people protesting against the government of Ethiopia"

Independent confirmation shows the vast majority of the diaspora ethiopians havent attended the demo. Those demonstrators are students of the stand up comedian and other loosers. There are hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians livingand working ijn USA and they didnt attend the protest.

Meles is a great leader, he is smarter and sharper than the ragtag politicians of the diaspora. I would have stood next to the protestors showing a banner saying Bravo Meles. He is such a fantastic leader, God Bless Meles Zenawi.

Many of those who opposed Meles are extremist amharas who are equivalent to neo-nazis pf Germany. Anyway, let the extremists exercise their rights and our PM-Zenawi marches on the red carpet.

Bravo-Meles- Bravo EPRDF.

Not surprisingly, around “30”:)):no:88| ONLF, OLF, CUD aka GINBOT-7 with the support of SHABIYA are out to tell the G-20 leaders to listen to them and those 30 thugs want to make changes for Ethiopia by asking to cut funding! Really, that is kind of funny. Is that all they can do, gather 30 people from all those states? It is also no wonder nazret.com, the biggest cheerleader of GINBOT-7 is too ashamed to show the group protest because there aren’t enough Ethiopians willing to stand together for any change. Those 30 people of Ethiopian origins should realized the majority of Ethiopians at home and abroad are sick and tired of such anti-Ethiopia, anti-peace stance.

Soon, we’ll see big change by those 30 people because they will soon be forming the smallest {NEW} opposition party.

One of the most unfortunate situations is the continuing and blind hatred towards Prime Minister Meles Zenawi by tiny but strident members of the Diaspora. It is a blind hatred because these individuals are voicing their strongest opposition to the ongoing changes in the country to discredit the prime minister. For anyone, who cares about the people, it is much easier nowadays to find out what really is happing in Ethiopia than ever before. We know Ethiopia has started some important changes underway that could transform how our people live in the future. No amount of noise, fabrication or hate can change that. For the vast majority of Ethiopians who dignify their love for the people, their opposition or support for this government is based on ideas to further these positive changes. Meles Zenawi has shown his commitment and ability as the leader of his government with his record of performance that he is well fit to represent the interests of the country. The average Ethiopian can see in his or her experience this is real. That is why he is chosen by the African and world leaders so many times to guide some important organizations at a global level. It is also, so unfortunate that Nazret.com is in-bed with these unintelligent hatemongering Neanderthals.

The protest manifests where the extremist diaspora's are heading, they are going down the drain. May God help the diaspora extremists who are still blinded by hate and prejudice towards our northern brothers and sisters.

Meles is a great leader I just don understand what is making those thugs in DC bark like a dog. The saying goes like this the camel marches and the dog barks. There is no one that can stop the EPRDF and its leader Meles from leading Ethiopia in the third millenium. Believe you me folks in the diaspora, Ethiopia is develping faster than our expectations. There are problems here and there but its notsome thing that can make us portraying bad image of Africa and its representatives in Global conferences. protests are fine and cool but it should be carefully organised and meaningfull. Whats the message of those idiots now? I just don understand them at all, they are behaving lie a 4 year old who seeks attention from his mom.

Diaspora extremists can cry as loud and clear as possible, but they wont get a thing, thats wwhy their numbers is declining from time to time, they used to protest in thousands, then in hundreds and now in tens kkkkkk really funny. I expected all the unemployed extremists to come and protest during recession, but they failed to attend in large numbers this time. May be they couldnt find some one to pay for the bus fare-anyway let them stay and bark in USA.

Ethiopia's development cant be distracted or stopped. Ethiopia is strengthening its capacity to generate its own income and build the nation from the scratch. We know where Ethiopia was when the dergue left in 1991, now almost the whole country is in the process of a massive change. The construction sector is booming, service's (such as health, education, etc are expanding. New colleges and Universities are mushrooming in every region. So whats the protest about.

The only individuals that can participate in such protests are shaebiya's and their ethiopian surrogate kids like G7,olf and ONLF. The rest of the diaspora havent joined the protest.

We have never seen any protest againest Mengistu NONE is that meanse Mengistu as godd?

To day many are celebrating for low # of turn out and saying Meles is fair and good.
Even I am stupid enoughto accept that as a fact my question is is Ethiopia better today than 2005? The answere is NO at all!

I am not going to compare EPDRF with Mengistu and Comunist idiology nor do I compare Ethiopia with USA or Canada, or some of European country.

All I expect from these government is to be better . moving forward in democracy , show willingness of allowing opposition party have level field to compet by allowing free speech and free election.

The longer this govenment holds people hostage the more people will join the anti govrnment camp and if the meanse is not by election then it is by strugle and killing each other. Is this what I want of cours not but reality is!

Pleople like Z-Mike and the rest could continue celebrating and be happy with dectator but one day when the fact of life hits the road and thir loved once are coucht in the middle of it then and then they will cry and complain as 94% are doing in Ethiopia at the present time!

Accepting facts and making some changes and allowing people to be heard is what stops tention no other way! Gun and prison will increase oppositioin if there is anyone who should know that fact it is the Tigray people where the MORE MENGISTU killed the more came out to fight!

U could celebrate as you want and feel, but one day the time will come when you will seay we should have listen to the citizens!

Mengistu did not get any protest internaly nor externaly as compare to now and that is not the measure of the way EPDRF is govening!

I am still proud of those few Ethiopian souls who braved all the elements to be there(meaning travel exhaustion etc).
My question is why is Meles the only one representing the whole continent? can't they alternate others? May be he is the main puppet for the CIA or statistically Ethiopia is second most populous country.

that is the true nature of Neftegna. they don't go out and protest in a real life threatening situation!!! During Mengistu era, they were stuffing their stomach because they new what the consequence was. Because they have only empty words. their love for Ethiopia is from their mouth not from their heart. If they get to fill their stomach, they hibernate and forget everything. this is the true nature of Neftegnas abo!!!but when you come to Tigrians, they stand still in any situation. We were helping our front(TPLF) and other humanitarian organizations an no matter what the situation was. As a result we triumphed with victory trowing down the gods of Neftegnas.
Neftegnas are barking since 1991 and forming and deforming so many so called political groups but all of them are dysfunctional. TPlF accomplished its task in 17 years but neftegnas are protesting for 19 years. Here I dare to say this group of Amharas are not protesting against the Ethiopian gov't rather they are revealing their frustration of life abroad. They are showing the world their desperation of life. To tell you the truth, they are spoiled and they are not productive any more.

Obama not a fan of mass protest

An interesting bit from an interview with the Toledo Blade:

If any President might sympathize with the thousands of protesters expected to flood Pittsburgh this week for the G-20 summit, it would be the one who used to be a community organizer.

But in an Oval Office interview Friday with The Blade and its sister paper, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, President Obama said while working on Chicago's South Side in the 1980s, he was not an advocate of mass protests such as the ones planned for this week.

"Probably not," Mr. Obama said when asked if he might have been holding a sign then. "I was always a big believer in - when I was doing organizing before I went to law school - that focusing on concrete, local, immediate issues that have an impact on people's lives is what really makes a difference and that having protests about abstractions [such] as global capitalism or something, generally, is not really going to make much of a difference

Instead of unifying Ethiopians and economy of Ethiopia, they are protesting for one individual called Birtukan. What has she accomplished to improve Ethiopia’s image to outside world than disparaging every where she visits outside of Ethiopia?

Real Ethiopians including the leader Meles Zenawi are working hard to improve the economy and to eradicate poverty. This government introduced free market for investors to bring foreign currency to the country. But those ruminants of dergue are protesting to bring about misery to peaceful Ethiopia.

No one should listen to these uneducated and narrow minded individuals with no real vision for Ethiopia than seeking their own personal interest than the country.

Some of you participating in this demonstration were the foot soldiers of the Mengistu era, watching villages after villages being razed to the ground, watching women, children and elders being raped and murdered. You don’t have the moral values, ground nor the credibility to oppose anyone. You are here demonstrating because the PM doesn’t fit your fit your tribal mold. On one of the pictures I see the bold headed Shewarega with the archaic tribal flag with the retarded cross-eyed lion wrapped around his neck. My friend, you should know that with a noose like that around your neck, it will make it easy for some of us to pull it just a bit tight and watch your eyes pop out.

There seems to be a lack of information on the part of the people who call the demonstrators "sera fete". I know most of them. The majority are Doctors/Phds who are very successful in their profession. They are leaders in public and private institutions. They are among the top earners and thus the envy of many Americans. And they are also very successful in their family life. So calling them "sera fete" (or "bozene" in EPRDF's language) does not fit the reality.

Sometimes it's disgusting to read some of the the comments. People like Afarman, Abreham and the rest who are advocating for Melese and for its thug groups.

Melese is most the shameful leader ever in the history book. No leader in this world gave a tract of gravels and sand leave alone a huge fertile land and a port but your smart cousin Melese. No government in the modern history has ever used ethnic apartheid to administer its own except in South Africa when the few Whites which imposed thier supermacy and opressed the blacks.

Melese is a true slave who had accomplished his cousin's mision and that has gone. They divorced their marriage and stained theiir blood relationship. Melese and his thugs do live under constant nightmare and terror, for the crimes the commit on Ethiopians. History has taught us no one can lead majority at a gun point. The demise of dictators soon when their deciets revealed. I bet you better to make you mind and make change for the good of Ethiopia. The world is has spoken clearly the hidden agendas of Melese and his cliques, please read the International Crisis Group report.
TPLF will be a history book only for those who cheris you and the likes. It is time to say out for you gives blinded by temporary materials. you need to stand for your conciousness.

Dear Editor,
Unless my memory has rusted too much, I once remember reading the population of Ethio-Americans in the US to count somewhere between a quarter to half a million. And under the circumstances, I would have considered using ('T'iraz net'ek'') "statistical terminologies" (with the hope that many readers won't cross check its meaning!) to express the number of those who participated in the march (Something like: 'A significant portion of the Ethio-American community participated in the march') instead of the exacting number/s mentioned (30 to 75) which belittled the efforts. After all, isn’t that part of what statistics does (a means around "Catch 22" and save face)?

It is really the stupidity and utter ignorance of Melese's stooges for trying to capitalize on the number of the protesters. In deomocratic countries, even one person can make a demonstration to protest any violation of rights. 30 people are a lot for opposition. By the way, is there any doubt or question about the dictatorial rule of Melese Zenawi and his cronies? It is now considered that Ethiopia has becoce a prison house for a great deal of Ethiopians excepting the Woyannes and few Hodamoch ( those who live to fill- up thier belly for the time being) from other nations and nationalities. Believe it or not, Melese will trash out the Hodamoch one after another shortly. Whatsoevr, sooner or later, the victory of the Ethiopian people over Melese's tyrany is certain. Qiiduus

Ged yelem, don't worry about the orphan, child soldier, killer mercinaries, or what they say about me. I have made it abundantly clear, many times, no matter what they say or do, I will not stop from speaking my mind. For them, just because they wield total power, just because they gorge themselves with the looted wealth of Ethiopians, just because they know it all, tell it all, all Ethiopians are prosperous and happy. Be Fasika yetedarech, hul gezae Fasika yemeslatal.

They want everybody to sing their song. They go celebrate in Asmara, the dismemberment of Ethiopia, they expect us to welcome them back home, with hotas and elilta. Few years down the road, they tell us Eritrea violated our sovregnity, we are supposed to march by the tens of thousands and sweep their mines with our corpses. They impose outdated "divide and rule" Mussolini's ethnic bantustan, we are supposed to clap our hands, and dance to the dismemberment and liqudation of our identities, the provinces. They live and pee on our land, we are supposed to kiss the ground and collect their garbage. They insult us night and day, the dead and the living, we are supposed, to bow down and ask forgiveness. They steal everything that they can touch, we are supposed to turn our heads away and not utter a single word. They are Mr know it all, Mr tell it all. They have advanced our nation to such a point, they have nothing left to do, but worry about global climate change, and the dangers of asteroid shower from outer space. They are all living in lalaland. These are the same people who were drying their cloth at Arat Kilo hawulet just a deacde and a half ago. They came with complete hatred, for everything that is Ethiopian. That is why Ethiopia is the only country on the face of the Earth that is currently being run by those who despise her to their bones.

I have repeatedly asked in here, show me one piece of document, one clip of video that shows this getata Banda, let me borrow one word from ZY, SIGIBGIB, hater talking about Ethiopia and his aspirations for Ethiopia prior to, say 1990. Nada, zilch, zero. Just because you occupy a country does not make you a genuine leader of that country. Victo Emmanuel was Imperatori Di Itiyopia too.

My dear brother visitor. They hate me because I do not flow with the crowd. I am a sore bone stuck in their throat. The same way they misguded, poisoned, and lied to a whole generation of Tigrayan youth, they have layed out the same web of lies and deceit to divided and destroy the Ethiopian people. The least we can do is, call it what it is. Komatan komata kalalut tebelo yele. :>>

Lekim,

KIKIKIKIKIKI, ebakhen atasekegne. First of all, I am very dark skinned, true to my Oromo and Southern roots, can't be farther than the man you are talking about. Second, talking about melata's, have you checked out the picture of your boss? Looks like he is six month pregnant struggling to walk down a few steps, lol. But how silly of me, why ask the question, you are the one behind him with a kemis and koso fit (face). I repeat, one day, the occupation will cease, and you will see them both covered in blood. Then, Mr Hatimoto, racist occupier, the only option you will have left will be to take out your sword and committ HARI KARI.

Bravo & God bless all Ethiopian patriots in Pittsburgh

The Tigre leeches as a group have excluded themselves from joining none Tigre Ethiopians in demonstrations or in all other anti woyane actions against the barbaric Tigre regime and more often than not the Tigres are highly critical of those of us who oppose TPLF (Tigray Parasitic Looting Front). Ethiopians are persistently showing to the World the trouble they face at home by the Barbaric Tigre minority supported by the West.

Ethiopians have never been bitter like this; it shows the World the West leadership lacks fairness and Democratic equality. The Democracy being exported to Ethiopia by the West is the COUNTERFEIT DEMOCRACY that creates nothing but the obliteration of Ethiopia and the breeding of poverty in the hands of the subhuman Tigrewoch. If the West could not understand THE GENTLEMAN'S LANGUAGE of what the pioneers of civilization peacefully speak, then what the West welcomes seems NOT the peaceful Ethiopians language BUT the language of the terrorists which Ethiopian has always suffered in its history.

Both Ethiopia and the mind of its people is fertile, the West should not be bothered In Sending their grain frenziedly to Ethiopia if they are willing to respect the democratic will of its people to be ruled by the leaders the people democratically choose. If the west continues to finance those Barbaric Tigre leeches, the only alternative would be The 'Hutusaizetion' of the Tigre leeches by none Tigre Ethiopians.

I definitely agree with the protesters in that aid should no longer be given to Ethiopia or any African country. Aid has never helped us, on the contrary it has damaged us more than anything. Aid helps more the western nations economy than it helps Africa. They use to subsidises their agriculture, increase their influence on the world, fool themselves into thinking that they are saving the world.... It is no secret that 80% at least of aid money is spent on tv ads, expatriate salaries... the remainder is spent on non effective projects...
People need to ask themselves why is it that every time Ethiopia needs to borrow ( not beg) money for say a hydroelectric power station, the western nations always refuse... When money is needed for big infrastructure projects, no one is here to back us. Ethiopia is in great need of infrastructure that is greatly needed to improve our agriculture and economy. Yet donor nations rather subsidise their food surplus and dump them on Ethiopia and other African countries. It's no secret that food aid coincided with food surpluses in western nations. The thousand of NGO in Ethiopia all have a thousand different agenda and do not contribute positively in the well-being of the Ethiopian people. The idea that aid helps the poor countries is a lie. It has never helped us. Even Europeans would admit that the US marshall plan after WWII did not help their economy.

NOT one but all Amara do not represent Ethiopia - Please do not insult by beloved country -

Ethiopia is a combination of Oromos+Afar+Tigray+Gurage+Dorze+Hadere+Somali+the various Southern Ethnic groups (17+) and amara

In other word amara alone does not make Ethiopia. You like it or not we are all under our glorious flag and under the same constitution

You asked me - "Shegaw, What is wrong with you? I don’t know why but you seem to be intimidated by Shewarega.

My answer to you or him is his non-ending, boring, repetitive old story of his feudal past. The past when his feudal relative stamped all over the Oromo people.

Someone has to let him know that the past is gone and we are moving ahead with the New Ethiopia where all ethnic groups are on the same footing.

THANK YOU!!!!

Leaders come and go but our glorious and eternal flag will remain the same - GREEN YELLOW, RED. Period! and NO emblem on it

Then you went on to write this:" ... I MISS MENGE !!! Menge, ..." When I crisscrossed Ethiopia I found out that 75% of Ethiopia remember him as their liberator. And each of them that we talk they have only good things to say about him.

And what do we have from Africa? About thirty tribalists who are complaining that their tribe have to come to power again. Even the other tribe, the Oromos, didn't join them for the Amara tribe likes to rap up themself in Ethiopian flag which the OLF's can't stand.

Folks tell me, why is it that we don't see other african tribes, like the Ashanties, the Kikuyus, the Ibos etc., in the streets of white man's cities demonstrating as political figures? Why is it only Ethiopian tribes think that the European or the American people will help their tribe to take power? For the white man you represent one of tens of thousands of Africans tribes. Nothing more. TASAFERALACHUh.

so why did only 30 people showed up when there are well over 100,000 people lived in the vicinity and despite the high publication of the event. the answer is easy. people are simply not interested and those who are dont like each other. the others want to move on and see ethiopia get out of the grinding poverty and they see the government at least using the aid for developing the infrastracture.

We do not doubt the political skill as well as the academic credential of our prime minister. He is comparable to western leaders if not even more able than some of them.Seen from this angle and the fact that he is a proxy of the west in the horn of Africa, i am not surprised by he representing Africa. Not to exaggerate, but we (Ethiopians) are unique in Africa in Education or leadership. We had leaders Who are considerd as the fahter of Africa, who managed to make our capital, the Continents headquarter... We witness opposition leaders in 2005 outsmart EPRDF officials in the debate where MELES himself didnot appear just to maintain his unreasonably exaggerated credit of being 'orator' or 'genius' among some. Still , i am partly proud that my leader is representing the continent while at the same time sick of his hateful / racial politics. I witnessed some instances when he played the race card in politics in a manner so ugly that he incited the disciplined Ethiopian people to kill each other. In ohter instances , even more uglier , he played the 'religion card' to devide the people. the two cards worked for him so well domestically. I ,however , am convinced that he is far better than most of the so called oppositioin leaders. lets be factual; and ppl pls donot nurture hatred . MAY GOD BLESS OUR ETHIOPIA

Shegaw,

you said: "30 serafet people - what a joke!"

It sounds as if the most aimless and idle/serafet person on this planet is rediculing the most hardworking and patriotic Ethiopians! May be out of jelousy; may be out of unfathomable hatred against Ethiopia; may be out of utter ignorance about the situation back home or may be out of demonic disregard for the plight of millions of Ethiopians who are dying of hunger everyday as a result of the greedy looting by the midget Meles and his vassals. These people you dared to denigrate their motives or you dared to question their patriotism are people who travelled from different states near and far to shout down and expose the insidious character of the midget in Pittsburgh in front of his alms givers and masters. They hired a bus, arranged to gather from surrounding states and moved to the G20 host city covering all costs from bus fare to victles and hotels. Had the meeting been in WDC, there could have been a big rally of tens of thousands. But then again, given the great security concern to protect the nearly 4,000 ministers, officials, business people and government representatives (for which purpuse some 16 million dollars has been channeled by the Obama Adminstration), what matters is not the size of the turn out but the energy and dynamism within the 30 patriotic people and the message they delivered to President Obama and his counterparts whose governments support the midget financially and materially. Given the anxiety about potential terrorist plots and attacks, these Ethiopian patriots have made amazing decisions to even face the repercussions of terrorism and risk their lives if that means exposing the midget and getting the voice of Ethiopians heard.

Ps: So, Shegaw, the most idle/serafet gay/guy, who has nothing to keep himself busy with except hanging around Nazret.com and attack every thing good about Ethiopia, need not worry about the number. He must realize that hundreds and even thousands of Ethiopians in the US attend G7 meetings as there are no threats for their lives. Today's low turn out can be explained in terms of terrorist act concerns, distance from cities where most Ethiopians live and financial constrainsts in the midst of the ruthless recession which has eroded savings of millions who have been laid off and Ethiopians are not exception to this

Meles is one of the worst leader we ever have in Ethiopia, but he pretends to be a good one. He jailed many opposition leaders and supporters. Also, he killed many protesters in the street of Addis Ababa, and he did not show any remorse for taking human lives. He continues his jailing and killing spree in different parts of the country. He needs to be exposed to the world, and send to a prison where he belongs. It is a shame for African leaders to send this vampire to the world stage to represent them. They should know that murderer belongs to jail not in the world stage. I believe that history will judge them. I did not understand why some Ethiopians support this killer. It might be ignorance or they might be partners in crime.

Wadani,

Yes sir, I am slim, I am tall, head full of hair, lol, very very dark skinned, you know the beautiful types that arise when different people mix ;D. I am also at least a dozen years younger than our beloved melata, who is gasping for air just to walk down a few steps. But it is ironic how the Shagata Arogit, probably the most unstable and hated creature in this site keeps on calling me "Shimagulae" kikikikikiki, when everytime she enters the room people pick up their handkerchief to cover their mouth and save themselves from the unbelievable odor coming out of her stinking mouth.

Talk about federation, good idea, any time any place. But the one thing I want to remind you, not everyone sees in the same eyes. I have made it very clear before, say for example if the people in the east, mostly of Somali heritage feel they want to have a Somali zone that is cool, as I once suggested it would be more fair to give it another name rather than ethnic like Ogadenia, that is just a friendly advice, it will depend on what the people living there want. On the same token, I will not compromise for a second, about the sovregnity of my home Shewa. Noone, noone has the right to tell us we do not exist. It day dreaming to think otherwise.

I do not expect Meles supporters to understand that. they are living in a different world. They have everything, power, money, they control the destiny of everyone. Times are good for them, at the expense of so many millions, but let me mention for you three things I came across.

1/ I just called my brother back home, he is the oldest I the youngest in my family. He went thru all that my family endured under Dergue. We all left, he simply refused to do so. Since he was older, he found it more difficult to live abroad. We help him once in a while, but mostly he lives on meager pension. This year I did not receive any cards from him, for the holiday. When we were talking over the phone he told me, choking with tears how the price of everything went off the roof, how much they are suffering. He said even the price of cards is so high, that he decided not to send out any this year. Since the family is so large, he did not want to send for some and skip others.

2/ I knew this old man in Addis. He was 97 years old. These SIGBGIB occupiers decided to give the entire area where he lived at to so called Kwaiti investors. The man has lived in this place all his life, and his father before him. He was a well know "arebegna" patriot who fought against the Italians with Ras Abebe. He also served his country for so long, retired spending his last days in peace. He also had one son killed by Dergue. He begged this hater monsters many many times to let him die in his home. His daughters went back and forth untold times and waisted so much money to make his hope a reality. They threw him out of his home and was dumped in Kotebae. He died three weeks later distraught and cursing the country and people he has served all his life.

3/ Now, let us talk about my sister. She was mudered by Derg. She was only 20, I was 14 then. It was probably the worst thing that had happened to me, but trust me many more I had to pass, but her death still makes me cry to this day. You know what they asked us to do. Remove the remains, because they need the land. I never like Woayane from day one, but that day was what made me the number one enemy they could have. I did not sleep for days. I even was tempted to go back and bring her overseas, but I have sworn not to do so as long as the occupation stands. I asked family there to remove her and sent all the financial help they needed. They told me , we put here here and there, I said, take her out of town into the countryside. They did so and buried her in of the burials of my great grand parents safe in a monastery. My friend Wadani, my sister was not to be left safe in the town built on the farmlands of her great grand father, Abaebae Tuffaa, Oromo chief of Finfinae. She could not get, a six foot by three final resting place, in the town her great great grand uncle Menelik established.
If this is not occupation, what else could be?

This is what Meles supporters will never understand. We do not hate him because he is this or that ethnic, had that been so I would not have supported Seyee. We despise him because of the deeds that are being done to our families. How they deliberately pick on everything that is bad about past and use it to divide people. How everytime he opens his mouth it is either, hate, insult, gura, or evil.

it is one thing to express disagreemnts in demonstration but it is shameful and unacceptable to ask to block aid and loan to our own country.let me ask you something,if the oppostion takes over in some years ,do you want to take over a country with no roads, communcation or hydroelectric power or do u want to take a very strong economically viable african nation.let us not forget if gilgel gibe III is built it is going to help our brothers back home.don't we get tired of hearing ethiopia being portrayed every time at the bottom of the table.

Ante Al kasha shimaguilae - before you used to dull our mind with your ancient feudal history and now we have to read about your boring family history - please give us some break.

But here is some stupidity you came with this time

1. you wrote:" .. a Somali zone that is cool, as I once suggested it would be more fair to give it another name rather than ethnic like Ogadenia,"

Since when "Ogadenia" became an Ethnic name???
Ant waslata kebataree - the only ethnic group in Ogaden are the Somalis the rest are outsiders from different part of Ethiopia working for the government. Ogaden is the name of the territory and not of any ethnic group. Learn something moron.

2. Then you wrote;" They threw him out of his home and was dumped in Kotebae. He died three weeks later distraught"

Isn't this what your feudal relatives have done in the past - Specially Mesfin Shelashie grabbing the lands of the Oromos and then used it as his and turning the original owners of the lands to become his serfs
We the people of the South see it as Payback time or bad karma coming back to you guys and hunt you.
Thank you Meles for being the nightmare of these feudal remnants.

3. Then you wrote;" in the town her great great grand uncle Menelik established. If this is not occupation, what else could be?

We call it - make room for people who are productive and paying tax and not those who waste their life daydreaming about their lost ascendancy and hegemony. Plus your sister is dead long ago so why waste a good land for cemetery?

And as showa is concerned - forget about it - it is a shared area for lot of Ethiopians from diverse ethnic background. Shewa is not for amara or amranized oromos. It is for everyone. eat your heart out.
And if you are suffering from stinky mouth then my friend chew on anise seeds - it is number one remedy for halitosis.

Something does not make sense here. The independent reporter said there were 30 Ethiopians who march against Meles Zenawi at G20 Summit in Pittsburgh.
There are hundreds of thousands Ethiopians who live in and around , Washington, DC, Maryland, Ohio and Boston. So how is it that only 30 Ethiopians showed up at this march? I suspect one of the following things have contributed to the no show: Due to the current economic situation in the US a lot of Ethiopians are financially strapped (unemployed, short of cash etc); or fatigue in Diaspora opposition camp and also the opposition is not what it used to be.

You see, you do not understand. You are not even a human being. I have been coming in here for years, I have not seen a more stupid, a more hated, thing than you. You are the most lonely, the most confused, but above all a person with no values, no love, no hate, not an ounce of human character. It is not ideology, that guides you. It is not even ethnic, as you try to make us believe, that guide you. You love noone, you hate noone. You only have one thing that keeps you alive. INFERIORITY COMPLEX. I do not know how and where you picked it up. You have told us about your biological father, many have picked up on that and insulted you. I have never done that, because no matter what one does, he should be respected for he being a human being. He might have shined shoes for a living, but noone paid his rent for him. You might have lots of things that happened to you in transition to where you reside now. I do not know, but it is very clear, for anyone with eyes the unbelievable hatred, and inferiority complex that is deeply rooted within you. Therefore, when one is so overwhelmed with such a disease, how can another try to talk to that person (sub human in this case) in any meanigful way. The people you praise yesterday, you curse today. So, it's easy to understand what made these countries democratic. The first and most imporatant elemen of democracy is freedom of speech, a speech to express one own satisfacion or dissatisfaction on certain issues, such as by opposing dictators, demostration out the steet are few. Every one knows Ethiopia's source of foreign currency mainly comes from coffee, cereal, skin and hide, flowers, sesames etc.. ( all agricultural products). Don't even dream that just sending American dollar will give you a privilege to have a FREE RIDE in the new Ethiopia. Your sick wishes and cry that Ethiopia will knell down for your petty dollars(just like you wished in your statement), HR 2003 or your trust in what the USA might do for you(in terms of economic & humanitarian sanctions)to your own country and against your own 80 million poor people shows how much you care about Ethiopia and Ethiopians( while sitting somewhere else).
Do not blame PM Meles Zenawi or EPRDF for your failure in life.It is time you and your likes in Diaspora to pause and think for a moment what you have been doing up to now and where you are heading to- specially after that shameful incident (that some of you call DEMONSTRATION) which was heavily advertised but was carried out by a bunch of losers. It was a sad and an eye opening drama of a lifetime perhaps to see for the first time a bunch of losers demonstrating about a Nation but heavily outnumbered by police officers who taught of a big people mass movement.(may be a record number for the least number of people in the history of demonstration)

To My Dear Dedib(Dumb & Dumber) friend Dear G,

Let me try to make u understand this simple logic with a simple example:-
There was a person called by Mr.X. That was his not his real name. When the right time comes, that same person who was forced to be called as Mr.X knew and said "it was time now to declare my real name as Mr.Y".
Remember that Mr.Y is his new real name not your new name. Then who are you to say that unless you show me proof I will always call you this or that?Who are you? Are u the judge? Please try to grow up your retarded mentality as your proud physique as 6.7 feet in height and 260 pounds in belly.

Grow up mentally OK OK Mamush Yene Dinbush !!!

I read most of the comment and I am happy to see ,we all have a freedom to express our opinion in this country(USA). I DO APRECIATE TO SEE WHEN EVERYONE OPENLY EXPRESSES WHAT THEY BELIEVE ON. We all should strive to see this freedom in our country as well. I read was happily to see all those different comments. I am neither disappointed nor discouraged by those comments. Actually it will empower me to do more because I believe activism is not limited by a number of people. Activism is limited by your courage and your believe. In a country like USA, you can stand even as one person to speak out for injustice. It is important to express what you believe on and what you stand for. Our humanity measured by our stand. The only judge you have is your conscious. Your conscious will guide you and direct you to the right direction. If you go just by what you read and or what you see it will be difficult. You need to observe and ask yourself what is really going on around you.

Only once I partook in protest demonstration in USA. It was in 2005 when TPLF death squads killed over 200 civilians in the streets of Addis, sent thousands of jobless youngsters to concentration camps and held the residents of Addis hostage. Unspeakable rage drove many to the CNN headquarter. Even then deep inside me, I felt uncomfortable for exposing my homeland problems for outsiders and crying in vain. Even while Addis streets stained with fresh bloods, tens of thousands of detainees’ fate remain unresolved some of the demonstrators were unhappy when others ask donors to stop aid to Ethiopia. We realized even if the aid is suspended for the regime not to collapse overnight. Some of us were bothered not to punish innocents with Agazians.
Five years later though the political landscape of the nation is still in stigma the economy is leaping forward. It is a proof that most of the locally produced and the donated money are used for the intended purpose. Though I believe to be their right and admire their guts to stand firmly for their conviction in my opinion it is inappropriate to request donors to stop financing nations ruled by dictators.
Meanwhile I applaud what Meles is doing for Africa in international stages.

Dear kibrom [visitor],
1. As usual, I appreciate your well documented fast reply.
2. You once again seemed to misinterpret the opinion I posted (sorry for singling you out for you two appeared the most glaring bloggers here): It was a call for humility and respect for the views and opinion of others- plain and simple.
3. Regarding your enquiry (nearness to the PM), I’m not close to him or any of his group in anyways- not even by pedigree (although I see no harm to say so if I was one).
4. If your hypergraphic expression, ‘BEGIOLOGY,’ is meant to refer to ‘Begging’, rest assured that I’m not the right individual to fit this expression (the minimum I can say is I have long surpassed the age of begging in all of its forms).
5. Ph.D is not something that you get granted (by the PM or any such body). It is a privilege that you hard earn (if it satisfies your inquisitive mind, I am an individual who do not aspire a grant of Ph.D certificate/thesis?).
6. A final advice: you will save a lot of time and energy if you restrict you comments to issues about which you have a background knowledge/information and/or when you have a full comprehension of what you are reading (before you resort to posting your comments- preferably, without insulting others). After all, posting opinions here is not about criticizing or insulting visitors for the different views/opinions they behold. It is about ensuring multilateral exchanging ideas.
With Respect

Here in U.S you're allowed to give poinion and you vote for your leader every four years. In democratic country that is how it gets done. You want to support your dictator that is your problem and that is your believe. Your dictator had been in power for 18 years that is not democracy. Abisinian, and Yichalale, Z-Mike and likes:

I will be happier if the # is higher to voice Meles is in the back room of court
Example Siye case, Birtukan and Debela and many more

I will be happier if all these people who are saying Meles for ever could understand facts of life where when a party is in power for over 2 terms there is not accountability..
Example: Military high ranks all Tigray, EFFORT is owenened by EPDRF Meles and no accountability

I will be happier if Meles units Ethiopia by visiting all provinces and encouraging free speech and true democracy, equality to all ethnic. Instead he is looking for common enemy by bringing back old news and story to get all fight againest each other.

My support for all to voice thier furstration is not to bring about civil war but to bring about peace in voicing furstration isntead of letting things firment and blow up!

We have seen many examples arrund the world specialy in Africa that once civil war starts it is over. Yes, people like the mike will bost saying We are armed to teeth and we are power house nothing could matter. What he does not realiz is when it is time it will happen.

One of you said I do not know what I am talking about that there was demonstration againest Mengistu. Abroad I did not see any demonstration. In Ethiopia Tigray and was running to be independent to be with Eritria. If the goiwing was hard Tigray wanted to be independent not unit. If anyone says Woyane first oprion was to separate then you are a lier!

One day you may see the furstration of not being able to get involved and not electiong accountable govenment!

May I ask when is it enough for one party to lead! When is it enough to arrest and abuse others who do not share the same view or self sentre govenment?
When?

Yes there is change in Ethiopia but mostly becuase people who are abroad are doing business and sending money. Yes, Meles ahs done few things for beterment of Ethiopia but he has damaged Ethiopian lasting prosperity more than he is buildign by dividing people!

Yes, Meles "BUCHILLOCH" are are laude since they are feed well and stilling for 94% of the population!

It is shame to us how we know Birtukan is in jail to bring about justice and we are not doing the least to announce to the world that He is DECTATOR!

Enough!

For those who think it is about hate and hate not reason for us to voice our oppinion or pushing for change!
Let me ask: When Woyane was fighting to separet was is then they hate Mengistu, Haile yes they did and the had right to do so! We those who are voicing our opposition have a right too. You diminize Ginbot 7 for thier actions and existance, while you call your strugle bravery! You discount 94% population voice just to have the comfort for you and you ALONE. Your fight was to get better than 94% the population instead to be equal with all ETHNICS!

Any one opposes Meles is hater, but the hater Meles who ignors 94% of voters is OK!

It is time to fight for equality instead of special treatment for few! When government treat all EQUAL peace is a must! When govenment treats one more the other hate and civil war is iminent!

Telling Oromo do what you want as long as you do not bother to be elected and work for all Ethnic it is ok!
It was not enough for African Americans to be able to ride in the same bus with white just to show equality it is mach more than that it is about freedome and real freedom to do what ever you want to contribute to your country in all possitions.

It is time for 6% of population to stop telling us old news and comparing the old rigim that they have done all this and that!

It is time for unity and fairness to all!

We need fresh govenment who is accountable and fair to all!

It is TIME!
