In an interview with Turkish newspaper, Today's Zaman, Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebrseassie was quoted as saying, "I want to become a prime minister". In the interview Haile was asked "We heard that you were thinking about a political career in the future. If the people elect him, why not? Every single Ethiopian from Tigray to Gamo Gofa, from Illubabor to Hararghe, has a god given right to become a prime minister by birth, his Ethiopian citizenship. Meles might leave, are we going to replace him by Seyoum, Arkebe, or Tewodros etc, those days are gone and dead. A new sherif in Washington, the Ethiopian people's eyes wide open, those days are gone for good.

By creating so many jobs you have already made a big difference for thousands of people.

Says who?
When that became the requirement and when was the last time we've seen anyone with some kind of college degree rule our country? forget about those with online correspondence degrees.
I rather see someone with a natural ability for leadership and a love for his people and country than greedy, clueless semi-intellectuals with PhD.

I guess he managed his living very well than most people, he transformed his fortune to lucrative investment, demonstrated him self as a successful businessman. He loves his country and he is the most respected citizen in his country. He showed wisdom to bring an end to political prisoners deadlock situation in resent past. Great leaders don't necessary require higher education, most of them are self-though and discipline. Finally he has every right to run for any position including being prime minister. He doesn’t necessary run initially to get the position he can be representative in the parliament and gradually move to his target. In a long run he has a very good chance than most of you there.

So go back to school, and after so many years schooling I can see you as a prime minister but not now brother and not easily. But you are very hard worker guy, so I believe you can do it if you set your mind into it, and Ethiopia needs good hearted people like you. I don't know you personally, but you sound like a nice guy.

You go head and try it brother, but don't ever forget that it is a huge gamble with a potential disaster to the fortune you have accumulated through hard work. Meles hates every popular figure who loves Ethiopia. Teddy is a good example here, and if you added an apiration of taking over the job he(meles) thinks only his, it is possible that he might send one brigade of Agazi to run over your mansion.

Well, leadership is not all about higher education, if that was the case, all of Ethiopia's current politicians including Meles Zenawi would be out of power. Buying qualifications through distance learning like Weyane leader doesn't count either. One only has to become killer, gorilla fighter or dictator with guns to rule most African countries!

Some people are natural born leaders, gifted, charismatic, visionary and well respected without higher education. Some can be the most educated but with no or little ability of leadership/common sense. I say, Haile would have had a good chance to stand for Mayor/Governor if he was in USA! Then he can step up from there. After all actors, sports personalities became successful politicians in the US. I honestly believe that Haile has better IQ than Sarah Palin!

Coming to Haile though, you might get killed even for saying your wishes in Current Ethiopia! Be careful brother, just enjoy your hard earned wealth peacefully ;)

Haile brother, i admire your ambition pursue it. It might not be as easy as you are thinking but why not give it a go.

Ethiopia was administered by mengistu who had similar acedemic level like you. So why not u can be a Prime Minister.

But i doubt if you could be a good one or bad, that will be seen. There is a saying that goes like this yemiyategib Enjera kemitadu yastawkal yibalal. You may lack basic administrative and acedemic skills, you may possible find it harded to deal with regional and world leaders. If you are serious about it, go and learn basic skills that can make you competitive in the area. Politics is like athletics, you have to be smart and skilfull to win. You need to have basic understanding of the legal, economic and political climate which ethiopia and the rest of the world are in. To learn this things u need to have either practical ex[perience or theoretical knowledge. Anyway, you are still young, and give it a go.

Haile one piece of advice, u can be a sports Minister or really president of Ethiopia when u get to your 50's or 60's, u can be like Girma woldegeorgis, your role as yehager shimagele is an added advantage.

Haile has his own right to have any ambitions. As a voter, though, I don't think that he would be the right PM. True, he might have the good will to change people's lives for good. But desire is not enough. I believe in professionalism. How can an athlete who spent all his life striving to out-race his oponents be able to bear the huge political and economic burden of administering a poor country? Like athletics, politics also needs a combination of a myriad of qualities: talent, interest, training and experience. This, I would say, makes Haile an odd choice. I should appreciate his wit and courage though.

As any Ethiopian desires to be a good Prime Minister thus to lead his Ethiopia to a better nation status I don't see the problem. Ofcourse one needs administrative skill, political
knowhow. Then again if our Ethiopian system had been like the U.S all one can do is have enough wealth mix a little truth with a lot of false
hope and advertise it on every major T.V. network for a good long time and if the people can buy that one can easlily get the post.( in reality this is not happening).

By a single strong person like you. You have to gather and convince a lot of strong people to work with you....Tell us how you can take us from poverty
We all know the problem of Ethiopia but we do not have agreed solution for our problems.....tell us if you have any better solution....
You can not become a prime Minster because you want to be...We have to approve that...
Is there any body who knows the political philosophy of Haile....?

Why not!

Haile, nothing lacks u to become PM of Ethiopia. Good leaders do not pretend to know everything. They ask for advice and guidance in areas they do not have the exposure. This is what President-elect Barrack Hussien Obama had confessed in choosing Biden as his VP. Obama said: "I know with so much experience as a senior senator and working in the foreign policy committee for so long, no one can cover for me the foreign policy pitfalls except Joe Biden." Moreover, what we need is a public-spirited, humble, honest and open-minded leader who walks freely among his people and does not steal a dime from the Treasury. Corruption and looting are the double tragedy that has pushed the country downward and backward. An honest leader with open heart and mind can bail it out. Indra Ghandi's success in the Green Revolution didnot come from her education or expertise as an agricultural professional; but from her courage to invite all leading India's professionals to guide her in the design and implementation of the country's economic policy. We saw it was a groundbreaking success.

Those of you who denigrate Haile's educational background must be intoxicated with worshiping online degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Meles has his first and second degrees in Economics and Business Adminstration respectively through correspondence. He is good at the English language and famous for his periodic use of conceptual smokescreen in "expalining" every phenomenon that props up in the country. Even his Woreda and Zonal cadres have got diplomas in management from the Open University in UK. Mind you, some of these cadres have no idea of this University and most do not really tell you what subjects they studied! But our country is run by such bunch of certificate/degree holders who, hoever, nurse extreme hatred to Ethiopian scholars and intellectuals.

So Haile has the right to run for public office includng the office of the PM. For me the most important criteria must be transparency, integrity, humility, love for the people, and public spirited!

No matter how dictator, I endorse Issayas Afeworki compared with sell out Meles. Isayas condescends to wear even "Sandal/congo" shoes and he walks freely among Eritreans anywhere anytime. That is the most important thing!

It is amazing how some people demand good education for becoming the prime minister of Ethiopia. As if Meles is well educated, as if Mengistu was well educated.

Yes, I would like my country to be led by well educated man or woman but being a prime minister of Ethiopia don't need so much education more than Haile has. Being educated doesn't mean having degree only but a good understanding of the world we live in and how we behave with society.

You can buy a degree like Meles and take your country back to the seventeenth century of tribalism while the rest of the world enjoy freedom, liberty, and democracy.
Speaking foreign language is not education either. You can be fluent in English and yet you could be enemy of your own country.

A university professor position may require some formal education but not even necessarily.
What does an Ethiopian prime minister do any way?
The current one is very much involved in abusing his subjects based on tribal status. He decides who should go to jail today tomorrow and what kind of evidence should be planted on opponent so that he can eliminate potential individual who may take his position. He decides who should own public property for free so he is involved in developing his cronies wealth. He make rebels generals so that they will keep him in power as long as he wants. Does any one need education to do this?

Minilik the second didn't go to any university and never claim to have a degree but he was the most effective leader at his time since he led his nation to freedom despite well educated well armed Europeans were trying to outsmart him.

Leadership is many times given.

Ethiopia can have thousands and thousands of wonderful leaders but what we don't have is followers. If Obama was Ethiopian and if he was running for the prime minister of Ethiopia he could have been in jail today. Not only woyane even the opponents would have called him names since all are cursed generation.
There is difference between learning having degree and being educated.
One can be well educated without a degree.

It is God's own idea that Ethiopia is, and for all times, given to leaders from the Lion of Judah's lineage i.e Neguses Dawit, Solomon, Menilick I, SehaleSellasie, Menilick II, Atse HaileSellasie I et al. Unfortunately and historically during the intermediate gaps when the herd is without the true shepherds, leaders ranging from the rebellious fellow tribes to gentiles and foreign occupiers reign. Haile Gebresellasie's aspiration is not from hubris, rather from the deep feelings he has for the welfare of his people. On many occasions, on BBC interviews and post race speeches, Haile has tearfully let it be known what he thinks regarding poverty and illiteracy in Ethiopia. Infact Haile likes to talk about the most important issues than about himself. This is way before even Obama became Illinois State Senator. Haile has the heart, the good and exceptional heart, to make a real difference. If Haile becomes the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, it would not be to plunder the people or to unjustifiably murder well meaning people; he would try his earnest best and if he can't accomplish it then he would move on. That is Haile. Remember that it is only Haile who can beat even the Obamas - if necessary.

I have great respect and admiration for Haile, but his intention to be the prime minister of Ethiopia is a bitter pill for me to swallow. because being a prime minister is not running 10000mts and finish 1st. it requires a lot and he has none of that. I advise himm to run his business and thrive.

What i got out of this article is that a little known person in the poltical field of Ethiopia can actually come out and change the face of politics In Ethiopia, Obama showed us that it can be done. But i understand that's a wishful thinking in a country like Ethiopia considering the fact that EPRDF will never let it happned regardless of how much the country will benifit from it, because for the simple fact that they put their political agenda first than what the country needs. Those of you who support EPRDF will try to say that's not true for the sake of arggument, but deep inside you know it to be ture

If a fair and free election was to be held in Ethiopia tomorrow and that Haile was in the race, I wouldn't vote for Haile, purely because he hasn't got any experience of any sort to lead a nation at present time. I would advice him to start working now from the grassroot politics and work his way up to the top. He shouldn't simply expect or assume to be the prime minster of Ethiopia because of his celebrity status and successful business man. Only when i am convinced that he has ability and the experience to lead our nation that I will be glad to vote for him. It may take a long time but 'YECHALAL'. Even though I am not EPRDF supporter and disagree with most of their policies on different issues I would vote for Meles today because I don't see any viable and strong alternative person to replace him at this time. The opposition camps are so wick and divided to be considered as serious alternative.
Peace to you all. Long live Ethiopia.

Haile: Know your limits: No, You can't this time!

With all due respect to your glaring achievements as an athlete, I really do think that you are becoming over ambitious. All ethiopians and the world at large respect you as a renowned athlete. You have one of the gifts of the millennium to the world of sport. What is more, you have every right to aspire a political career as a citizen. However, a person of your education is is far from being a realist to aspire to be a prime minister. This is simply because you don't have what it takes to be a politician. There is one thing that you failed to realize. Being a prime minister, apart from having speed and stamina, requires wit and wisdom, which you literally are devoid of in political terms. Besides, politics is not a part time job or a retirement hobby. Politics requires genuine commitment and full time seriousness of purpose. Now that you retire from athletics, you aspire to be a prime minister. What a joke! As a charachter you don't like criticism. You have so far enjoyed high level of acceptance and praise from all sections of society. Don't fool your self that you will enjoy the same being a politician.

Your unrealistic aspiration to be a prime minister symbolizes one sickening trend in Ethiopian politics. People, who have achieved various successes in other fields, are considering politics as a retirement game. Many have tried it before you. They have ended up their career with huge embarrassment. You can take professor Asrat, Dr. Berhanu Nega, etc. Don't ever try to abuse our respect. We respect you only as a runner. We cherish you as an investor. We accept you as an ambassador. However, we are not ready to accept you as a politician. Political wise, you a hell of moron!

I think, you better know your limits. Politics is a game where there is no looking back. It is something that you start never to quit. It's not like the London marathon where you quit running when the wind is blowing hard.

Know your limits bro!

Some of you guys suffer from the usual symptom of short memory, ignorance and cursed presumpteousness which are typical of current generation. Just a reminder that the current prime minister was a born troublemaker who spent most of his life in a jungle having come from a treasonous family, so there is absolutely no history there. The previous head of state of Ethiopia, Mengistu, not only was he an underachiever killing machine but the last man to be a leader of any country under any circumstances. Haile GS on the other hand owns multiple world records and a movie under his belt. He is patriotic and humble man. He has also beaten the otherwise invincible Obama's country running men over and over again on the field. He is a hero and a fighter. If John McCain had a drop of Hile in him, he would ....

Why not Haile to be Ethiopia prime minister?
Let us see key Wayane educational profile when they were Ethiopian ministers:

Prime minister Zenaw : 12 +1 or twelve grade plus freshman dismissal
President Girma woldegiogis: high school gradate plus “moto aleka’
Foreign minister Siyoum Mefin : high school gradate
Prime minister’s ranked adviser Bereket Simon, Abay tseye, : elementary school dropout
Capacity building Tefera Walwa; elementary school dropout
Deputy prime minister Adisu Legesse; high school gradate
Tamrat Layle, Siye Abreha, Kuma Demekissa, Abadula Gemeda …etc: elementary school dropout

In general all key wayane officials are elementary school dropout plus guralla fighting certificate
The new comer wayene officials have either received paper from 'digay mamrecha'or bought the paper degree from abroad.
The former Ethiopia president corneal Mengistu hailemariam elementary school dropout plus “moto aleka’
Therefore, Haile is 100% better than those evil ignorant. He is highly optimistic & has bright future.
And everyone has its own dream & hope and so Haile has its own dream. He will be PM.

If Haile "Our greatest hero of all time" does his best to reflect his excellence, discipline, hard work and vision in athletics and business to run the future government, I strongly believe he can be a great leader. His life experience is the best university in the world! More than any thing else he loves his people; he respects Ethiopia’s precious history and heritage. He clearly understands what we miss i.e. luck of development, education, proper health care, accountability…...and knows what we have as well. He knows how the developed world operates from an Ethiopian perspective perhaps more than anybody else. Given a chance by Ethiopian people, I believe he can be the best leader. Yes he can!

To help your people, it does not require to be a prime minister. You have already enough power to help the poor if you are really commited to this noble cause. Otherwise you do not mean it. If it is Sebhat Nega:then ok.

Z-Mike,
As usual Weyanes’ deception and desperation to cling on to power is obvious. My friend we all know our unlucky country is undemocratic and Melese and his cronies will fight up to the end and not give up power easily unless the destruction of our mother land is fully accomplished.

However, if the criteria to lead ones country is a track record of hard work, honesty, dedication, humility and the love of the people then I have no doubt he will most likely be elected as a leader.

I know what your concerns are, because it is not first time the Western media proposed the leadership option to Haile. Mainly, because the world couldn’t simply understand why we Ethiopians are starving time and time again while our beloved country blessed with several super heroes who can get the job done and deliver results.

Melese your friend on the other hand is simply a tyrant murderer, that is his track record and he is already voted out of office a couple of years ago. I understand your worry because Haile is respected by the whole world and if this proposal gathers momentum could turn out to be a real scary matter to deal with for Melese. From Weyane point of view, “Echi bakela kaderech atekoretemem” style move, understandable.

I can see the Weyane’s hooligans are truly turning nervous and berserk to this idea. Do you guys have any clue that every citizen of Ethiopia has the right to contest for the highest office in his own country? Let the Ethiopian people reject him as a leader not you. What I will say to you is let the people decide, let the people judge our good and bad deeds. I know where your problem lies, that is the word democracy however you can’t fool all the people all the time.

The Mice once you told me you are a marathon runner are you kidding Mr lier, If you are a true athlete you could have given Haile a credit for his hard work and determination in getting the job done and raising our flag high. In my opinion you are not worthy of cleaning his toilet let alone to criticize him. For God sake if you think about Haile’s achievements, broken more than 20 world records. No human being in the history of the world done that before him. He is one in several Billions. He is exceptional human being and there is a lot to learn from him provided you have the brains.

There is time for every thing Obama won"
Yes we can, Haile's version of "yechalal"

"Don't ever try to abuse our respect. We respect you only as a runner. We cherish you as an investor. We accept you as an ambassador. However, we are not ready to accept you as a politician. Political wise, you a hell of moron!"

Wow what kind of monkey are you?
Tesema Gudu let me ask you one simple question. What do you mean when you say "we"? Are you representing some group or what?
We is plural while I is singular. To use we you should indicate who is with you. You yourself and your stinking mouth, feet, ass all should be regarded as "I" not "we".
More to the point,
Meles is prime minister for TPLF and probably about 2 to 3 million people including you may approve his position because they and you belong to his tribe. However, if Haile can be elected official probably by some 60 or 70 million Ethiopians from all walks of life, then he will be more genuine elected official as opposed to yours who took power by gun.

We are not there yet thanks to your gun and grenades but when Ethiopia join the rest of the world by being democratic the ballots will choose their leader not your bullets. Then you and your group will start working for living no more looting.

You need to practce administering group of people.
If it's for the sake of wish, it's ok, every body wishes many good things, but Mr. Haile's wish is from those which can't be realizede.
If it is from the bottom of your heart, start adminstering a kebele, first, then wereda, then, kifleketema or zone. After that, there will not be any reason you can't be a prime minster.

It is funny to observe all opinions that my people are involved. I feel proud when we have this kind of jigurgur misreads.

Haile can say what his wishes are for his beloved country. I understand his wishes as how to improve his people's life by snatching out of the current killing machine.

He is sending a good message saying if he were the primer of Ethiopia what he hopes to do. He can really be the Primer of Ethiopia, not simply following the system for "Prime Minister" as the Primer.

If you think political education is only achieved thur schooling, you don't have any idea how is this world working.

I see some mad men from Meles side; I also see some nonsense minded groups who feel that they are the only ones; and I see some very intelligent trying to tell the truth and give him the direction.

Anyways, any one can become the primer of Ethiopia; but we need them to come with the open and clear mind to improve Ethiopia not simply for some selected tribes or clans or groups or like the current killing machine does. Ethiopia should secure all her properties even those already sold for aliens by the current killing machine.

God observes all these to preserve our destiny.

It takes some things to become a leader and it does not mean again that we all have it because we are wealthy. Wealth and leadership are two different things. But again we do not have to be leaders or become a prime minister to help our poor brothers and sisters and our country. There are a million ways to elevet poverty without becoming a prime minister. All of us can contribute what we have, be it money, education, even good intention to help our country without taking office. Peace to all

1.Here the Dedebit & their stone factory college(Dingay Mamrecha)or wayane civil service college trainees evil ignorance ( denkoro) talk about education, what types of education?

Only education is not enough. You have to have a general knowledge(with an IQ over 200) and you have to be far sighted.Typical example is H.E PM Meles Zenawi. He has all the packages. To make it short, we will never get a PM like H.E.Meles Zenawi even in the 23rd century. Sometimes I have a feeling that Meles was sent by God!He is God`s messenger.

2. killing innocent people?
Who killed innocent people? We all know that Kinijit leaders took the responsibilty for the incident and they apologized. Why are you talking now about the killing when you know that the chapter is closed?Do you want to humilate the kinjit leaders?

3. lying?

Who lied? Kinijit were the one who lied. They said that they won the election, but AU observers,Carter`s centre observers, local observers and Lidetu Ayalew confirmed that EPRDF won the election.

4. looting?

Who is looting? When the Kinijit tourists were touring North America shortly after they were released from Kaliti,$850,000 USD was collected and now no body knows where the money is.
That is looting!

5.cheating?
Who is cheating who?
Kinijit leaders tried to cheat the international community by telling lies. They cheated even their own supporters.Tell me now who is a cheater?Do you think EPRDF is a cheater for telling the truth which was later confirmed by internatonal community? As far as I know, the only two persons who believed that CUD was the winner in the 2005 election are Anna Gomez and Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam.

These mockers, children of the lord of the flies, are subconsciously attracted to their own, not by descent human being like the premier and renown runner. Good governance is the cumulative effect, not just by prime mister or political leader. Non of the Ethiopian government ever did good for the country and if you wish to be in their position, you too.We need the mental and psychological change to see good vision for our country not just talking. Forget about that devil PM.The worst thing we can do is if we think like woyane to remove woyane and take the position. Think twice to make Ethiopia where every one can live freely and diseases, war and drought free land. Stand together.

Who knows the futures? So,as many said here on the above lines, Mr.hailu you're more qualified the monkeys on the power now. Thus, to become a prime minister and lead a country like Ethiopia, you're more qualified. So,keep the hopes alive, your dreams might coming true one day.

But I am afraid, not all directions are open for Africans.

If the government allow and support even it's own people
in case of technology, there are brains, who can create miracles
for the world. Cause we are in -- Sementenjaw shee – to see
that God created us in His image.

The Idea of Haile is good, but he may even reject of being a

"Ethiopia can have thousands and thousands of wonderful leaders but what we don't have is followers."

Observer,
I think it is the other way around, which is there has been always a lack of able leaders in Ethiopia to mobilize the millions of dutiful followers. As you know, the only time there was a relatively thoughtful, responsible and wise leader in the century, the people did follow Minilik's leadership in mass to achieve according to every historian the unthinkable i.e. defeating the technologically advanced european aggressors. Signing off the far northern territory for the italians was the only shortcoming in his otherwise glorious leadership. Even, most recently in 2005, what we have witnessed was the peoples readiness to follow a seemingly capable leadership to change the country for the greater good. We have even listened, trusted and followed the woyanes to defeat Isayas and his gang in the Badime war. Since the end of the great man Minilek's era however, Ethiopians have been betrayed by every single politicians who happened to control power, be it educated or uneducated. Ethiopia seriously and dangerously lacks visionary leaders; we don't have a leader to inspire and unite us. Yemimera enji yetefaw, yemiketel ema be million yemikoter ale. May be, Haile is what we have been waiting for, because right now more than anything we need someone who can unite us and make us believe in the greatness of our Ethiopiawinet. As Shewarega always says, we are capable of achieving great things only when we are united hence anyone who can be an agent of unity is very welcome. anyway, I always enjoy reading your thoughts, and thx for that.

2.He knows that there is lack of good governer in his country. And if possible for any one who come with poeples support and better idea he can win.
3.He has seen that Obama has no any famusity than him even in USA two years ago. But everyone belives in his strong idea which is different for the time of this "days" situation.
4. Being honest has great role in politics to win peoples hearts.
5. Hile may have Obama's life terem.
He is born from two ethinic groups of Ethiopian. Oromo and Amhara.and his name is look from Tigray. mixed breed.

6. He Knows that he got two choices after he said this. Either be a community organizer or good politician and start to mobilize the mass by strong ideas and then compute to see his dream or go fight for it or go for jail b/c of the unpresence of a priminister like what he is dreaming about. ( In fact if it is pure dream not for being more popular like Obama but Popular for his God . bY DOING UN TO OTHERS WHO DID UNTO HIM.)

all those your Dedibet "denkoro", Menkistu H.M & other oppositions "denkoro" have charged our heaven country to hell. Do not point only the one. Before 30 years we talk hunger & criminal & also now too.

Menkistu changed his "kaki" cloth to "kitron" cloth
Zenawi changed his "Qumta/bant" to " polale" , disintegrated our homeland, i.e he changed Ethiopian map,has planted ethnic racism, changed the country the bad to the worst( in Mengistu era about 1-2million folks in hunger now in Zenawi era more 14 millions folks in hunger)
In general, all either the so called government or oppositions have traded their own leisures by our poor people. They are outdated, evil greedy,self-educated("denkoro"),Ethiopia enemies, etc.
Our motherland is tearing, crying, hungering, begging, losing hope, bleeding, dying.

The Ethiopian Hero needs to take his athletic achievements in stride and keep his illusions to himself. If he is talking about the present day Agaazi Ethiopia, he is certainly digging his grave sooner than God's wishes.

His judgement seems to be clouded, and so is most of the postings here. The moment the Agaazi's loose power there is going to be a blood bath never seen in the annals of world history.

Some times most of us are carried by emotions and the facts on the ground tells us otherwise.

Dear ፊታውራሪ Free [Member]

I always like your comments.

It seems that when I say what we don't have right now is good followers but not good leaders you seem to disagree with me. It is alright but let me explain my point.

A leader is nobody if followers don't respect their leader and unite under the leader so that the leader will be successful to achieve the goal.
You need good leader I agree but let me go back to your example such as Minilik and how he succeeded.

Ethiopians decided that Minilik will be their leader long before Minilik reach his maturity. As a young noble and prisoner of Tewodros, Ethiopians (Showans) stole Minilik from Atse Tewodros and hide him from the seen until time comes to succeed. They made him their king of Showa then latter you know the history.
Remember, there were able nobility such as Ras Darge Ras Biru and others who could forget Minilik and took position for themselves but no they made him king follow him to his last day and achieved what they want our freedom.
Look Ethiopia today how many Ethiopians tried to take leadership role by risking their life. We all blame them for not succeeding but we never help them.
Ethiopians are very confused now than ever. What did Ethiopians do to our beloved leader Haile Selasie? Forget even that.

What is Hailu Shaul's crime where every one insult him today? What is Dr. Taye's fault where every body insults him today? What is Birhanu Nega's fault where every body insults him today? What is Birtukan's fault? You can go on and on.
Today when Haile G/Sellasie mention his wishes to become leader of the nation he loves look how Ethiopians react on him? Negative. That is my point.
Look one little example of success when kinijit win election. It died soon after heavy price when followers allow 100 kinijits instead of one. Followers could have said no when one of them (leaders) want to split. That is the key. If we all said you kinijit should be one they would have been one and would have been succeeding. Rather followers regroup and dance on their own funeral.

If Jesus Christ himself come to Ethiopia and walk with Ethiopians to liberate them from the trouble we have in Ethiopia today, many will insult him call him names than follow to help.

The key to our freedom and the simple secret is one word "unity".
If people unite any one can be their leader. The people make good leader. I wish we have even a lousy leader but a united people.

The people of United States changed Barak Obama from ordinary man to a great leader within our sights. I could be wrong. Sorry I usually see things the other way.

Where is the hiccup of Haile being a Prime Minister of Ethiopia? We might say you need some kind of education to be a politician, which is true. However, the most determining factor for me to serve a country is commitment, loyalty, determination, ethics, and love to the people. We have seen many “well or highly educated personalities” in Ethiopian politics serve their uneducated masters like Melles, Mengistu or for that matter Hailesillasie. If to be educated means to be opportunists, murderers, and hodams then I prefer to have some one who is a naturally wise, intelligent character who happened to be a simple farmer as a prime Minister. Do not forget that social intelligence is above politics. Obama's charm comes from his god given social intelligence and humility rather than his Harvard academic background. Politics means endurance, iron discipline, absolute dedication and Haile has all these trends and potentials. You do not just wake up and run a marathon. You need years of training, discipline etc to reach such a success worldwide. It costs blood sweat and tears to reach the achievements Haile has won to this day. The love and respect Haile won all over the world says everything about his personality. We have seen many athletes who won marathon in the past but nowhere have we seen some one who won the hearts of people worldwide. That is exactly what Ethiopia needs these days. Someone with a positive image, charm and elegance and our Haile has it all. So why should not Haile be a Prime Minister?

Your fans have fallen in tears when you weep in joy. Using your esteemed career, you also made a fortune for yourself and many others around your circle. I am not against your ambition. The people of United States changed Barak Obama from ordinary man to a great leader within our sights.

Dear Observer,
That is exactly where our difference lies. I see it again the other way around which is Barak Obama himself is the force of change in the US. In my opinion, he is the one who is changing the long held beliefs and opinions of not only the people of the United States but the world as a whole, not the other way around. Like all other great men, he has the extra edge to captivate the subjects' attention and interest, and that earned him the most powerful job on earth. Americans made him their president, because they believed he is an extraordinary man, because he succeeded in selling his appealing ideals for the mass. Now, when in our recent history an Ethiopian with a great leadership potential denied the peoples support? All individuals who have aspired to cling on power have their own respective followers like Minilek has his, but unlike him they all have failed to exploit the opportunity given. They failed to work for the common good of the people and as a result deservedly denied every bit of our interest. That will be the fate of Obama if he failed, God forbid, to live upto his followers expectations and his own promises. The people in Kinijit have perhaps the most powerful and committed support base both in Ethiopia and everywhere else Ethiopians live before they disintegrated themselves into pieces. Yes, we should have demanded better leadership by boycotting their public meetings and denying all sorts of support they seek, unfortunately even doing that requires effective leadership, someone or a group to convince the ordinary people that the politicians have just transgressed their own rules, that they are not capable of leading the mass. What does that show, it shows the abundance of easy or even naive followers, and an extreme lack of mature leadership. That is the only reason why the country has become a play ground for tribal village idiots. Obama has succeeded to unit Hillary's and his supporters, won the heart of a good number of republicans, has inspired the world and poised to make it a better place. And, we couldn't get a single man/woman to make an Ethiopian case, a person to exploit the desperation of millions for good governance, for unity and a better future. [sorry for the late response, been busy]

dereje, point well taken! What you are saying might be the reason why we have "leaders" who couldn't even agree to disagree and take public criticism for their own advantage, to grow better and stronger, be it constructive or non constructive, instead of making it a reason to abandon a cause and destroy a party.
