World Focus

A museum is being erected in Bonga, Ethiopia — the birthplace of coffee. But because small-scale farmers are fragmented and disorganized, they are reaching the potential of the coffee crop.

Worldfocus correspondent Martin Seemungal reports from Ethiopia’s coffee country, where farmers are deciding to plant corn and khat, a leafy drug that is chewed with stimulating effects somewhere between caffeine and cocaine.

What is the difference between Eritrea and Tigray when it comes to bunna? You both like the taste including the Italians who specialize more in roasting it. Both Eritrea and Tigray don't grow coffee, and there is no difference between you two. If you think the southern coffee will keep to be claimed by Guna forever, keep dreaming. And since you are at it, how Ethiopia is better than Eritrea when millions of its citizen are on the verge of starvation and the regime has already started asking for charity?. It is amazing how Giday Berhe claimed to own coffee land in the Eastern part of the country. This is one proof how TPLF is favoring many Tigrayans to own and profit from the land that is not theirs. After all TPLF is the one who divided the nation into 9 regions lying that the regions belong to respective ethnic groups. However, TPLF is shown extending its tentacles all over Ethiopia and looting resources. Shameful!

I also happen to watch World Focus and what I saw in Bonga as a famous coffee farmer was a person in the name of Giday Berhe.

How can he be the one only famous coffee farmer in the town so far down in the south west of Ethiopia and in a place where it used to be farmed by its indigenous people?

How did Giday got there and what happened to those who used to farm for years there? This again is not a surprise to me given the current situation in Ethiopia under a one party, one ethnic rule and unfair treatment of other ethnics in the country. I will welcome other comments.

To comment for those people who do not know where coffee is growing in Ethiopia.Yes the Amhara killil grows coffee in the island of Zege (tana lake) ,the warmer place of Finote selam localities and some part of the wollo and north Shoa.
