Woman stoned to death for adultery after Somali court ruling

MOGADISHU (AFP) — Thousands of people gathered Monday to witness 50 Somali men stone a woman to death after an Islamic court in the southern port of Kismayo found her guilty of adultery, witnesses said.

Aisho Ibrahim Dhuhulow, who had been found guilty of extra-marital intercourse was buried in the ground up to her neck while the men pelted her head with rocks.

"Our sister Aisha asked the Islamic Sharia court in Kismayo to be charged and punished for the crime she committed," local Islamist leader Sheikh Hayakallah told the crowd.

"She admitted in front of the court to engaging in adulterous sexual intercourse," he added.

"She was asked several times to review her confession but she stressed that she wanted Sharia law and the deserved punishment to apply."

The execution was carried in one of the city's main squares.

The port of Kismayo was seized in August by a coalition of forces loyal to rebel leader Hassan Turki, and the Shebab, the country's main radical Islamist insurgent organisation.

Turki is listed as a terrorist financier by Washington.

The new administration formed there began implementing a strict form of Sharia (Islamic law).

"This afternoon we are telling the people of Kismayo that we are practising a punishment that is rare in this region and was carried out in Kismayo for the first time," Sheikh Hayakallah said.

Cameras were banned from the public stoning but print and radio journalists were allowed to attend.

KISMAYU, Somalia - Somali Islamists have stoned to death a woman accused of adultery in the first such public killing by the militants for about two years, witnesses said.

The 23-year-old woman was placed in a hole up to her neck for the execution late on Monday in front of hundreds of people in a square of the southern port of Kismayu, which the Islamist insurgents captured in August.

Stones were hurled at her head, and she was brought out of the hole three times to see if she had died.

When a relative and others surged forward, guards opened fire, killing a child, the witnesses said.

"A woman in green veil and black mask was brought in a car as we waited to watch the merciless act of stoning," one local resident, Abdullahi Aden, told Reuters.

"We were told she submitted herself to be punished, yet we could see her screaming as she was forcefully bound, legs and hands. A relative of hers ran towards her, but the Islamists opened fire and killed a child."

The Islamists last carried out public executions when they ruled Mogadishu and most of south Somalia for half of 2006. Allied Ethiopian and Somali government forces toppled them at the end of that year, but they have waged an Iraq-style guerrilla campaign since then, gradually taking territory back.

If a group of people agree on stoning to death a member of the community, that is their right.

what is wrong is if there is no collective agreement on what type of law a people decided to put themselves under.

If the people of Somalia disagree as to what type of law to live under, then, it is wrong to take a human life. It is first advisable to agree to live under Sharia. Whether by referendum or traditional consensus.

Somali Church Leader Assaulted in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

09/25/2008 Ethiopia (International Christian Concern)-Islamic extremists beat Mr. Ibrahim Yusuf [name changed for security reasons], a 35-year-old Somali church leader, on September 20 in the neighborhood Saris in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mr. Yusuf, who lives in another neighborhood in Addis Ababa, went to Saris to pick up documents that were left behind by his good friend David Abdulwahab Mohamed Ali. The documents are about the persecution of the Somali churches. Mr. Ali was martyred in Somalia in April 2008 by Islamic militants.

According to Yusuf, a Somali Muslim man entered the house where the documents had been safeguarded since Ali’s death and demanded to see them. Yusuf refused and the Muslim man left after threatening him.

A few hours later, Yusuf left with the documents and was ambushed by five Muslim men who kicked and punched him repeatedly until he fainted and fell on the ground. Even after he fainted, the men continued their merciless assault for at least another fifteen minutes, according to the police report.

The attackers fled the scene when two policemen arrived. Yusuf was taken to Model Medium Clinic in Addis Ababa where he was treated and regained consciousness. He suffered lacerations and kidney and head injuries as a result of the attack.

Two of the Muslim attackers were arrested on September 21. The rest are on the run.

Saris neighborhood is one of Addis Ababa’s “little Mogadishu,” populated by Somali refugees who have fled war-torn Somalia. The persecution against the Somali church has intensified since the beginning of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

Somalis are predominately Muslims, but, there are many Somalis who are becoming Christians as a result of the hard work of missionaries. Somalis who convert to Christianity face death. In the past year alone, five Somali converts to Christianity were killed simply for their faith. Even Somalis who live in neighboring countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya face persecution.

ICC’s Regional Manager for Africa, Jonathan Racho, said, “It is unfortunate that Christian Somalis face persecution in countries where they live as refugees. We hope that Ethiopian authorities will take the necessary action to bring the perpetrators of the attack against Yusuf to justice.”

NAIROBI, Kenya, October 27 (Compass Direct News) – Among at least 24 aid workers killed in Somalia this year was one who was beheaded last month specifically for converting from Islam to Christianity, among other charges, according to an eyewitness.

Muslim extremists from the al Shabab group fighting the transitional government on Sept. 23 sliced the head off of Mansuur Mohammed, 25, a World Food Program (WFP) worker, before horrified onlookers of Manyafulka village, 10 kilometers (six miles) from Baidoa.

The militants had intercepted Mohammed and a WFP driver, who managed to escape, earlier in the morning. Sources close to Mohammed’s family said he converted from Islam to Christianity in 2005.

One of the biggest mistake Christians and uneducated non-belivers make is that BELEIVING this form of Islam is not Islam at all.

You can't be any more wrong than holding this view. Islamic book orders exactly what these savage animals did and are planning to export it everywhere they can. The only reason why Ethiopian Muslims haven't done so is because they haven't been reading their own book and haven't been "educated" enough in the basic teachings of Islam mosly because it is written in Arabic and few care to learn Arabic to understand it. They simply read it and memorize what it says without caring for the reason.

The other reason is that ethiopian Muslims have been under tough management: meaning the Ethiopian Christians. Once this management breaks down and gives way to the current style of ethnic based federalism with a minority rule that will do anything to stay in power, we won't be far from this same fate.

That is why Christians and all non-muslims have to keep in mind that the more Muslims learn to read Arabic or the more they translate Koran to local languages...the greater the chances for similar savagery in Ethiopia.

Here we find many traditions demanding the death penalty for apostasy. According to Ibn Abbas the Prophet said, “Kill him who changes his religion,” or “behead him.” The only argument was as to the nature of the death penalty. Bukhari recounts this gruesome tradition:
“Narrated Anas:Some people from the tribe of Ukl came to the Prophet and embraced Islam .The climate of Medina did not suit them, so the Prophet ordered them to go to the (herd of milch ) camels of charity to drink their milk and urine (as a medicine).They did so, and after they had recovered from their ailment they turned renegades (reverted from Islam, irtada )... The Prophet(mohammed) sent (some people) in their pursuit and so they were caught and brought, and the Prophet ordered that their hands and legs should be cut off and that their eyes should be branded with heated pieces of iron , and that their cut hands and legs should not be cauterised, till they die.”

Abu Dawud has collected the following saying of the Prophet:
“ ‘Ikrimah said: Ali burned some people who retreated from Islam. When Ibn Abbas was informed of it he said, ‘If it had been I, I would not have them burned, for the apostle of Allah said: ‘Do not inflict Allah’s punishment on anyone.’ But would have killed them on account of the statement of the Apostle of Allah, ‘Kill those who change their religion.’ ”

In other words, kill the apostates (with the sword) but certainly not by burning them, that is Allah’s way of punishing transgressors in the next world. According to a tradition of Aisha’s, apostates are to be slain, crucified or banished.

Should the apostate be given a chance to repent? Traditions differ enormously. In one tradition, Muadh Jabal refused to sit down until an apostate brought before him had been killed “in accordance with the decision of God and of His Apostle.”

Under Muslim law, the male apostate must be put to death, as long as he is an adult, and in full possession of his faculties. If a pubescent boy apostatises, he is imprisoned until he comes of age, when if he persists in rejecting Islam he must be put to death. Drunkards and the mentally disturbed are not held responsible for their apostasy. If a person has acted under compulsion he is not considered an apostate, his wife is not divorced and his lands are not forfeited. According to Hanafis and Shia, a woman is imprisoned until she repents and adopts Islam once more, but according to the influential Ibn Hanbal, and the Malikis and Shafiites , she is also put to death. In general, execution must be by the sword, though there are examples of apostates tortured to death, or strangled, burnt, drowned, impaled or flayed. The caliph Umar used to tie them to a post and had lances thrust into their hearts, and the Sultan Baybars II (1308-09) made torture legal.

A gang of five men beat a Somali teenager to death because of a row over Muslims drinking alcohol, a court heard today.

Ahmed Mohammed Ibrahim, 17, was repeatedly hit across the head with a samurai sword, baseball bat, machete and metal pole after being chased in Sefton Park, Liverpool, in March this year.

The teenager became embroiled in the fight after accompanying his cousin, Ahmed Mahamoud Ahmed, 16, to a "straightener" – a one-on-one fight – with the alleged killer Ali Mohammed, 19.

Liverpool crown court heard how Mohammed is believed to have accused Ahmed of breaking Muslim rules by drinking alcohol and held him down while a friend hit his head with a bat.

The 16-year-old boy was chased home where his mother's car windows were smashed, said Tim Holroyde QC, prosecuting.

The next day, Ahmed was lured to the fight - where Mohammed, his two brothers Khadar, 23, Essa, 22, and two cousins lay in wait, it was claimed.

During this attack, part-time student Ibrahim of Ritson Street, Toxeth, was killed and another cousin Abdhullah Mohammed Ahmed, 17, was severely injured and lost a finger.

"One of the defendants was heard to shout 'He's still alive'," Holroyde said.

"All five defendants then joined in a continued attack with weapons on the deceased as he lay, obviously helpless, on the ground.

"The deceased was left lying in the road with obvious and severe injuries to his head which were bleeding profusely.

"A passing motorist stopped to assist, an ambulance was called and the deceased was taken to hospital, but nothing could be done to save his life and he died about two hours later, at 1.20am."

A pathologist confirmed that there was "extensive fracturing of the skull… and other damage to the brain within the skull".

The three brothers from Toxteth deny murder. As do their cousins Ibrahim Ahmed, 23, of, Toxteth and Ahmed Kayse Ahmed, 30, of Greenwich, London. The three brothers deny wounding with intent - relating to the attack on Abdullah Mohammed Ahmed. All five also deny violent disorder the night before the murder.

The murder weapons were found hours after the killing in a bin bag outside a house Khadar Mohammed used, the seven men and five women of the jury heard.

The metal pipe was stained with the dead boy's blood and hair, said Holroyde, and his blood was on the sword handle and baseball bat.

The prosecutor told the jury that when the defendants were arrested, the victim's blood was found on clothing belonging to the three brothers and Ahmed Kayse Ahmed.

The trial is scheduled to last six weeks

If you happen to read this post, please explain the difference between Hadith and the Quran.

When moderate Ethiopian sheiks preach from the Quran, it almost shares Christian value of goodness, brotherhood, share alms, prayer, fast etc.

As the Old Testament is more conservative, lived and written in its own time, some times, one might question the contradiction of modern values of some of the verses.

If the Hadith is a legitimate reference to the Muslim faith and contains such direction, it is up to the Muslim sheiks to pray and change the form of punishment. It is most likely that the value and rules of governments of the Christian as well as Muslim faith have rewritten their own version of the original direction from the prophets of the respective religion.

The Christian faith, no matter how it had altered and consists of variation of translation, it had never ever reached a degree of such delusional extremism that causes a threat to the present society.

Muslim extremists, terrorist, suicide bombers, and mostly young, unfortunately brain washed by elder shacks who push their politics in the name of Allah complete the dirty job for them.

Christianity is guided by the words of Christ aand his own examples. With respect to adultery there is a good example in the Gospels as to what punishment a woman deserves for committing adultery. Jewish men brouhgt a woman to Jesus in hopes of re-affirming their zeal for the law and expecting him to say " Kill Her" Instead he dared them: "Let one of you who haven't committed a sin throw the first stone." All the men left one by one. Then Jesus turned to the woman and told her Never to commit adultery again.

In Islam the words that came out of Mohammed are considered to be the words of Allah even if they are passed down through tradition by the people who were purportedly with him when he was wreaking havoc in Arabia.

Even if a verse comes out of the Hadith, when it comes to laws it bears equal weight to the verses in the Quran. That is why The Sudan, Saudi Arbaia and Northern Nigeria still have these laws in their Sharia. However some countries are more cognizant of international laws than others. "counties" like Somalia have nothing to lose, so as long as they have their Sharia and think that the long arm of intl. law won't get to them, they have nothing else to stop them from savagely murdering women for this sin.

In illeterate societies like Somalia's and ours this trend has a far reaching consequence than in educated societies.
