"He was a true Sudanese with a dream of a united and equitable Sudan whose diverse people would live in peace, harmony and on the basis full equality,"

"What makes the tragedy all the more painful and heavy is the fact that his loss has come at a time when Dr. Garang’s role and stature was so crucial to consolidate the peace in Sudan and to keep the momentum in the process of national reconciliation in the country,"

Why do we Ethiopians end up quarelling when ever we are asked to write our commentary on completely different topic. Here, we were asked to express our feeling towards the death of John Garang and some guys just turned these area in to their own petty battle field. This must be the result of living in our own isolated world where the solidarity of humanity as whole loose its meaning.

One great person has lost his life in a such tragic way. Please respect this unfortunate fact and write your condolense in a civilised and human manner.

Thanks!

I am really shocked by the death of Dr. John Garang in a helicopter crash. I had the opportunity to meet and discuss with him about 16 years back when i was having a field work around his base area. He was intelligent and with wide vision even for the continent.

I have felt his commitment, charisma and devotion in fighting for justice, equality and freedom. I hope there will be some key persons who can continue his wishes and visions. Since I don't trust Museveni and Omar al bashir i also speculate his accidental death. May the Lord rest his soul in peace. My condolence to all SPLM/A members and marginalized people of all Sudanese.

if his death is a pure accident ,it is to the will of god.but if it is man made the killers can kill only his flesh &his spirit will always live among every human being, who adores his job.

It is really saddening to hear the death of Dr John Garang. He was a great politician lost by all Africans not only by Sudanees. He orchastrated a good role model for peaceful resolution of a bloody poletics in Africa. His examplery work and vision lives for ever.

Dear Abbissinia!

As far as I know Dr John Garang strugled for the right of the Southern Sudaneese people not for us (oromo people). He has nothing to do with the strugle of the oromo people. It is some idiot persons (such as Alem) who always try to muddy the water that unnecessarly mixed up the issue. But the strugle of Dr Garang is for the Sothern Sudaneese and the strugle of the Oromo people is lead by the oromo sons and daughters.

The important thing need to be emphasized here is that the good work of Dr Garang is a model for all peace loving people in the world particularly in Africa.

Hi Abiti,

I found the word you used against God very harsh, but I do understand you why you have used the word. Remember that God is always LOVE and he loves all humanities. At the same time, God as a loving father doesn`t want to interfere in our freedom. For example, if you want to drive your car more than 100 k/h, he is not going to control you through the brake. He has given you mind to think and use properly, other wise, he would go against your freedom, but God is not like that; he always respects the freedom of his children. In a similar way, if some one decides to travel in a bad weather, it is upto that person and God respects his/her decision. Remember that we don`t exactly know what happened to Dr. John Garang and who was behind all these. How about his pilot??? Was the pilot assigned for John by the president or John himself took with him as one of his faithfuls??? There are many questions we need to ask. Therefore, Abiti, there is no reason why we should blame our God for our human barbaric act! In fact, at the end of the day, we will be asked for our such barbaric act against humanity.

Dr Garang was where he was because of the support of Ethiopia. had it not been the case where the ethiopian airforce is battling on his side against the Sudan government the SPLA would have been vanquished. Dr Gang himslef werr settinghis office in Kasanchis for decades. The SPLA and the south sudaneze people owe their victory to the EThiopian people. HOWEVER IN SPITE OF ALL THESE FACTS, Dr Gang was on the side of ethiopian enemies. ( Mr Issayas ). So Mr gang is some who forgot and betary his friends. Besides the guy was a dictator .. It is good for him to go. There will definitively more people to lead.

I am saddened and shocked by the death of VP Garang. He was installed as First VP of the Sudan just three weeks ago. He was an African nationalist and a tested leader of the South Sudan Movement (SPLM/A)who struggled for the last two daecades to overcome the undesired burden put by Islamists and dark forces of Arabization of the Sudan and the rest of Africa.
He will be missed by many. May our heavenly father strengthen and encourage us as we mourn the loss of this true son of Africa.

Dr. John Garang represented a lot of hope to his people over the years of suffer they had gone through. He was thier Yassir Arafat, Nelson Mandela, Dr King and Gandi all in one package, It's a very sad day that't filled with sorrow, but I believe his message of peace will lives on. When Sudan and Egypt had a problem over a small piece of land called Halebja I believe, the Egyptians asked Dr. John Garang to take thier side on the matter because at the time he was still fighting the Sudanese government. However, he refused to take thier side and told 'em that no matter what happen between him and the government Sudan will remain One plus the land is Sudanese land. Dr. John Garang truly believe in one Sudan and peace to everyone. All I want to say is that we've lost a great person and it will be very hard to replace him. I hope the peace process will go on in Sudan and I know his spirit will be watching. R.I.P to great Man.

I was saddened by the traggic death of John Garang.A genuine african hero who has gone for ever never to come again.Africa mourns for her great son ,today.John Garang has committed his entire life for freedom, equality and liberation of the opressed nation. He was really a simbol of freedom for africa and the rest of the world. He was a hero soldier and leader of freedom fighters when it comes to the question of domination and supression, and at the same time,he has proved that he is also wise negotiator for peace and co-existence.

Unfortunately, his traggic death comes when his role in that country's peaceful national recouncilation is at the turning point.Although it is too early, there is speculation that this incident is similar to that of Jonas Savimbi of UNITA.If it is proved, this definately will have an adverse effect on the hope of sudanse peace process.

May the protection of God be with the opressed nation.

John Garang's death is a sad blow for the people of Sudan. He had come to the conclusion that Peace was the only way. Garang will be remebered as the one person Issayas could not use to subvert Ethiopia. Despite the lavish hospitality that Issayas offered, we know Garang stuck to his noble vision of determining where his ultimate benefits lay, in excellent relations with Ethiopia. His successors will have alot to learn from him. In any case they do not need an irritant in the person of Issayas any more.Ethiopia hightly mourned a wise friend.

Dr.Garang was a man of vision who stood up for the freedom of the Southern Sudanese people against the ruthless Arab dictators.
Interestingly, Dr Garang, has given a lesson to the Arab North that the Southern Sudanese people have the right to share power, exercise their faith, benefit fron the natural resources and play active role in leadership. In the past, if a Southern Sudanese had a ministerial role, it was just the "highest" position at the "Ministry of Animal resources". But with the determined struggle led by Dr. Garang, the Southern sudanese saw the light at the end of the tunnel.
He was a true freedom fighter who left his comfort and toiled up to deliver his people from the many dictators. He can be catagorized among those courageous heros of this world to whom it was said:" he saw, he left, he conquered."

It's very sad to hear the death of a great freedom fighter. East Africa has always been land of killers and traitors who do not stand for or tolerate peace on this part of the world. A devil who has the machine gun has it all. Such people do not know how to make peace. They can not assess or predict the power of freedom seeking people. Though, they always speak or respond with the barell of a gun. They preach in the name of peace, but do the contrary. Such killers are not trust-worthy. So, Dr. Garang's death should give a lesson to those freedom fighters who wanted to free their people from a colonial bondage. They should only fight accordingly untill they will become dicision makers on their own affairs or untill they acquire the capacity to fully control their own matters including their land.

Dr.Garang is a leader who deserves praise. He is a person whom was a close friend whom I have known closely since 1983. He has worked hard to bring SPLA/SPLM to be recognised as a force, movement and political force proving that the only way forward to peace and stability in the Sudan is to recognise the right of southerners and treat them as equals. He was able to convince a good number of African and Western leaders leaders to rally behind the cause of South Sudan - an effort that demands high leadership quality which he had in abundance.

I am quite confident that the organisation that he left behind will see the implementation of the Peace Agreement concluded with government of Sudanto to its conclusion and to the satisfaction of all concerned . What is required at the moment is to rally behind his successor, Chairman Salva Kir, and give all assistance required, deplomatic or financial so that the dream of all peace loving people of the world, in particular South Sudanese comes true.
Let him rest in peace and God bless his soul.
