He's only been in office for two weeks. Unless you want to call Ms. Cleo and predict the future of his political endeavors, please be logical. As a matter of fact take a Logic class.

We always have something negative to say about any one who is sucessful from our country. Frankly, I was going to sit out this one. My whole atitude on this was: so what? Ambassador Tessema Asgedom was a huge embarrassment to EPRDEF, during the recent congressional hearings. As if his moronic stutters and lies wasn’t enough of an embarrassment, he crowned it by sending out that idiotic and juvenile follow up letter to Congressman Chris Smith. Obviously Meles wanted to replace him with some one that could lie at hearings w/o stuttering, some one with a better command of the English language. How about a Princeton graduate with a PhD? It may work or maybe not.

The EPRDF government, as it stands today is nothing but a Shabea agent, hell bent on destroying Ethiopia. The pro Ethiopian wing of TPLF, the likes of Aregash Adane, Siye Abraha, Haylom Araya, Alemseged G/Amlak etc. are dead, jailed, vanished or marginalized and powerless.

This is not a pigment of imagination of a desperate and vocal Diaspora, nor is it a conspiracy cooked by would be power grabbers, left over from former regimes. No, my friend, this is the reality. If you don’t believe it, please go to Addis and talk to any Taxi Driver.

No matter how you choose to slice and dice it, any one working with Ethiopia’s enemy is and will always be our enemy, as Ethiopians.

Samuel is nothing but a pawn, serving TPLF at Meles’ pleasure. He is nothing but a desperado, running into a burning building to salvage knickknacks at a great risk to his life and reputation. He is staking his reputation as an intellectual, or what is left of it any way in the hope of stealing a couple of millions of donated money from the mouths of starving Ethiopians, so that he could spend the remainder of his miserable life in material comfort.

I don’t know Dr. Samuel, some one mentioned above, that he is a drinking buddy of Endrias Eshete. There you have it; he is nothing but a spineless goon with a PhD. nothing more.

Dear negista Azeb:

Well educated Ethiopians with PhDs are not such rare species any more thank God. We do have thousands and thousands of them in Ethiopia and scattered all over the world, serving their country and humanity. One day, they will be standing shoulder to shoulder with the rest of their countrymen to build a just and prosperous Ethiopia, God willing.

Like Mesfin from Mary land said, currently we do have intellectual giants with impeccable academic credentials and a proven record of personal integrity, languishing in Kaliti jail. We should worry about the wellbeing of those individuals and not waste our time on the likes of Dr. Samuel. May his conscience never trouble him!

The appointment of Dr. Samuel Assefa should be looked at based on his credentials, not based on his relationship to the ruling party. Some of the comments listed here seem to originate from the writers' hatred of or opposition to EPRDF. I diagree with many of EPRDF's policies, but that did not stop me from digging into Dr. Samuel's credentials. The verdict? Dr. Samuel is an authentic and ingenious diplomat!

To Kidane Yitbarek:

No one is an island unto himself and diplomacy doesn’t happen in vacuum. We are not saying anything about the diplomatic skills of Dr. Samuel one way or the other. The problem we are having is, as skillful as he maybe, he is willing to use his skill and knowledge to serve TPLF and Meles’ interests to the determent and aspiration of Ethiopians from all wakes of life.

You know, if Dr. Samuel was a skilled surgeon and Meles appointed him to administer the Black Lion hospital, no one in this forum will bat an eye lash.

Like you said, you don’t agree with EPRDF’s policies and I don’t either. You and I are working hard, day in day out, to expose Meles’ atrocities against our people at home so that, the world community will stop supporting him by financing his killer gangs. Here comes Dr. Samuel, using all his political skills and telling the same world community, that all is good and dandy in Ethiopia and Meles deserves their support. This is what we are against and not Dr. Samuel per se.
