Roadmap mission to Ethiopia - FIFA

FIFA's Executive Committee will receive a report on Ethiopian football next month, following a joint FIFA/CAF mission to East Africa between 17-18 February. The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) is currently suspended from all FIFA and CAF activities.

At its Executive Committee meeting in Tokyo between 19-20 December, FIFA accepted an invitation extended by the Minister of Sport Mrs Aster Mamo to discuss the implementation of a roadmap for the return of the EFF in the football family.

Two core elements to the progression of such a roadmap as outlined by FIFA and CAF were:

* the return of the Ethiopian Football Federation´s headquarters to EFF President Dr Ashebir Woldegiorgis; and
* the immediate convening of a General Assembly, upon the return of the EFF headquarters.

In order to ensure that the views and opinions of the myriad of stakeholders involved in Ethiopian football were able to be expressed, the FIFA/CAF mission met with the State Minister of Sport, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, as well as with the EFF President, members of football clubs, the Coaches Association and the Referees Association. These meetings included discussions with stakeholders who oppose the current EFF President.

FIFA was represented by Associations Committee member Harold Mayne-Nicholls, who is the President of the Chilean Football Federation, while CAF was represented by its Executive Committee member Adoum Djibrine. They were accompanied by FIFA's Director of Member Associations and Development Thierry Regenass.

The FIFA Executive Committee will next meet at the Home of FIFA in Zurich on 19 and 20 March 2009.

Government should totally keep his hand away from football. This is not politics. I see chronic problem between the government or its supporters and the President of the EEF (Ashebir). He is the first guy to defeat government infront of international organization. Everywhere government wants to put its loyal people whether they are fit or not in key places of its beleif. But this is not working in football. It tells me that government can go to the last to keep its wish. I will expect no solution at all. The solution is in the hand of government. Once more, it should keep its hand away from our football.

No football for Ethiopia until we build up a strong players who have self confidence and ambition. But now its just a waste of money. The current team is full of people who dont have love for their country and for football.

In a country where educated people lead by uneducated, excepting developmental change is nave, this should be changed and at the same time professionals should work in their specific field of study to bring the necessary contribution for the betterment of the life of the people. As
Plato, the Republic, reminds us “Mankind will never see an end of trouble until... lovers of wisdom come to hold political power, or the holders of power... become lovers of wisdom…”
What I want to point out is that the problem the Ethiopian Football Federation face was and still is the lack of skillful leadership and the straggle of power within the federation. As known, in the present day Ethiopia, to be assigned to any position not necessarily to be qualified, have job experience, well educated etc. It’s enough to be loyal to weyane’s govt.(open secrete).
Ashaber W/G, the problem leader of the federation, the one time student of Medical School of Almata, the former capital city of Kazakhstan, spent most of his student life by making money and later recommended to the position by ambassador Kassa, weyane elder, taking in to consideration the criteria: loyalty, ethnic background. Beside that, he did not do the post graduate study, accordingly, he has no moral as well as legal right to use the title “Dr.” How on earth a “dentist” could lead a Football Federation? Why he had/has no will to work in his specific filled of study and serve the people? Good for nothing !!!!

To come to the point , Asheber has close relation with some of the FIFA leaders so that he has got their support to stay in his position, however, as the politic is the upper hand he has no longer chance to retake the position. There’s no compromise in weyane’s camp. As the Amharic saying goes “Ene Kemothu Serdo Ayebqel”.
