Sudan, Ethiopia to link electricity networks in 2008

By Groum Abate

Capital

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
The project that is expected to cost 61 million dollars for the 321 kilometer long electricity network between Sudan and Ethiopia is expected to be finalized in 2008.
Power Grid
A meeting due to progress in Sudan with officials of the two electric suppliers would decide the amount of electricity to be exported by Ethiopia to Sudan. It is expected that Ethiopia would export up to 200 megawatts to Sudan.

The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) some months ago had also signed a contract with Electricite de Djibouti, Djibouti’s national electric company, for a power purchase agreement that would finalize negotiations that have been taking place for the last two years.
The construction of the electric networks is expected to be launched shortly. Ethiopia is constructing a number of power projects to step up its power supply.

The African Development Bank (ADB ) has approved a loan of over 62 million dollars for the Ethio-Djibouti electric networking.

Installation work of electric lines between Ethiopia and Djibouti and Ethiopia and Sudan will be completed in the next three years, according to Sendeku.

The ADB has approved the loan required for the execution of the project following its endorsement of the feasibility study. The Djiboutian Electric Power Corporation has agreed to pay half of the total sum while the balance will be covered by EEPCo.

The project enables Ethiopia to sell electric power to neighboring countries, while the 283km electric line will enable Djibouti to get access to hydroelectric power for the first time.
A series of discussions were also held with Kenya to connect the two countries with power transmission lines.

Ethiopia is currently building three hydropower dams at a cost of 1.4 billion dollars and hopes to generate millions of dollars in foreign currency by exporting excess electricity to neighboring countries.
The dams - harnessing power from rivers cascading from Ethiopia’s rugged, towering mountains - are expected to produce a total of 1,155 Megawatts.
By 2010, the construction of the Tekeze hydro power dam with a capacity of 300 MW, Geligele Gibe II with a capacity of 420 MW and Tana Belesse hydro power dam with a capacity of 435 MW will be completed.

Ethiopia currently generates 800 MW from four hydropower plants for domestic consumption.

This is going to replace today's oil price as technology is replacing all systems in to Electrical. There are electrical cars you can recharge already. So you can see where we are going. You can imagine how this government is changing the country.

Long live EPRDF!

Water in Ethiopia will be crucial economic input as a " white petrolium " then Nile river will be name as " yager-lig, yenat Ethiopia sisay ".EPRDF has done many, many good things that are not air in to the media and it is a leadership which is highly devoted and commited to change the livelihood of the Ethiopians. We all know leave alon the rural areas even the big regional capitals like Gonder,Mekelle,Nekemt,Dessie,Awasa hadn't had enough lighting power and it was a near memoray for everyone. It is for their dark vision the CUDP leaders and their fellowers tried to scream in the big street of the USA and Europe.
Useless, near visionist, blind leaders and members you are able to realise the the countries development becouse it is well done and accomplished by EPRDF.

No matter what they say, Meles is one of the smartest and the most educated leader we ever have. This guy has all the connection with the westerns and the international community. Imagine what the U.S would do for you if you embaress the terrorists that dragged your soliders naked body around the city and at the same time fulfill your own goal. The amount of money thats flowing into Ethiopia, no one knows how significant it is... not to mention the help of the World Bank, EU, AU and other countries. So wherelse would the direction of the country be other than up. Long live Meles. Ethiopia First!!!!!!!

One thing though, please make sure we have some electricity enough to electrocute some ferral cats in Kaliti.
Why are things working for EPRDF and not for the very much demised CUD?

Long live EPRDF and EEPCo

What can I say it is very very good news for Ethiopia. Now Ethiopia seems rich by selling power to the neighboring countries, next time Ethiopia will be even richer when the expected oil researh has been discovered. God bless Ethiopia.

As long as EPRDF is the government in this country, Ethiopia is going to be next to Japan before you know it.

We have to use Satenaw as one of the power carrier poles on the line from Tekeze station to Khartoum. What other service can he give other than disseminating ethnic hostility?

We bury both his legs up to his knees. We make sure that he will not fall due to a strong wind by pounding the base around his legs by a good concrete.

To prevent rusting of his body due to moisture, we are going to galvanize his body by chromium metal at 4000 degree Celsius but immediately we cool down him to -100 degree Celsius to make sure that the metal is well glued to his body.

Moreover, we make sure that he will not buckle due to hunger by allowing him to take some current from the electric wires as long he isn’t draining all the current from the lines. Power shouldn’t be off in the cities because of his consumption.

This suits him very well.

Che and Free will be employed as guards to protect the high tech. pole from bandits. Both are allowed to sip some current as long as they don't affect the intake of the “superpole“. No other food supply for them.

Lets hope that this 15lbs ant gets his dream come true as the first electric superpole.

regards,

Python for transformer,

you know how important a transformer is for a high voltage transmission of electricity for such a long distance, from Ethiopia to Sudan. Since you have been consuming too much teff, that of a five people qouta, i assume there is enough amount of iron in your body, though that assumption will be tested while flowing high amount of ac current through your body, and at the same time measuring the strength of the magnetic field created & calculating the magnetic flux produced as a result of that, i am sure the result will be positive and it will not reduce the standard of the transformer in any form, then half of your body will be the core of the primary winding while the rest will be used for the secondary winding. Even if i have no doubt there is enough amount of iron in your body, to reduce the lose of power in the form of heat and due to the induction of eddy current, there will be a process of melting and shaping, extracting & adding of iron from/to your body untill we meet the contemporary IEEE's qualities & standard of a transformer and ofcourse our design. Do they have good enough furnace and saw at mesfin engineering to excute those engineering tasks? lastly we have got a place where even woyanes can be useful for their country!
Designer, Free.

It reminds me of the News during the Mengistu time.

"Ethiopia, Libya to link Electricity
networks by 1989"

That is one of the cunniest nature of dictators designed to steal public attention from the reality.

Where is electric power to Armachoh, Tekil Dengay, Shewa Robit, Goma, Limu, Damot, Ayra Guliso, Becho? Menesibu, Welkayet Tegede? Debresina, Debre Libanos?

For 16 years Woyane has been busy in Tigray building this and that while destroying and neglecting the rest of the country.

This narrow tribalist government is addicted to lies and more lies are on the pipe line. Woyane will soon tell us "Ethiopia to manufature commercial Airliners by 2009". Of course after the electrification of Ethiopia and Sudan. Ha!Crap!

This is to choice and all alike get it out of your mind that tigray is privilaged because they are faced with similar hardship that all other ethiopians are faced with. I have been to tigray and seen it with my own eyes. Just because the prime minister is from here doesn't mean the nations wealth is traveling north. OK, don't speak of things that you have no knowledge off.

Choice,
I was in Ethiopia in the summer of 2006. I went to Awassa, Demi Dollo, Bahir Dar, Lalibella, Axum, and Mekelle. I was surprised that Tigray has not developed as some people talked about. You would see some development here and there, but you don't compare it with Addis, Bahir Dar,and Oromia region. I have talked people in Axum that almost nothing has been built since Emperor Yohannes except now. By the way, you will find one of the most friendly, courteous, and respectful people in Tigray. I am telling you the truth, Choice. You should go and visit not only Addis, but the whole Ethiopia. Cheers.

Because of weyane cadres idiotic comments from the like of Chefee, don't hate Tigreans. Whether or not Tigray benefited from Melese economic policy, it wasn't the choice of the Tigrai people. The fact is because of the hate Melese & CO has for Amharas & Oromos most of the Development money is tunneled towards Tigrai. That is a fact. All this Zeraf from weyane cadres about the economic dev & projects is for nothing. Because: Most of the projects already Planned before EPRDF. EU, World Bank & IMF are financing the projects because of the Millennium Project goals. Despite of Weyane the economy is growing. If weyane opened up the economy, reformed land ownership, respected human rights, etc; we could achieve more economic development. Just good is not good enough. Our potential is very high!

You must have been brain washed or you are brain washers altogether.

Who would better tell you the fact that Woyane dismantled and took numberless power generators from Gojjam, Gaondar and Semien Shewa when it first took power.

What about the money spent on the "development or Tigray" in the pretext of "Rehabilitating War-affected regions"?

What is "Mahibere Rediet Tigray" doing? Helping the Anuak people get clean water? Or the Gujji people have school or clinics.

Stop advocating tribalist dictators and stand up for the truth.
