Washington can foster solutions for Ethiopia

By Mesfin Mekonen

The Hill

As America and the international community scramble to prevent a repetition of the famine that killed a million Ethiopians 25 years ago, the Obama administration must hasten an ongoing review of U.S. policy toward Ethiopia.

And as it responds to the Ethiopian government’s recent report that over 6 million lives are at risk if more food isn’t sent quickly, Congress should hold hearings and enact legislation to help Ethiopians create the conditions that are necessary to ensure that food aid is never needed again.

It is your wishful thinking to come to power and suck again as you did before. Woyane does not owe to anyone and will not listen to anyone and will not act because of pressures from outside to pave for others to take power from them.

The U.S. involvement by itself is not a solution to get reed of this tyrant. There should be a grassroots effort of the united citizens and democratic Despora. Otherwise this situation is manna.

How pathetic and cruel and criminal!

Now all of a sudden the self anointed "democratic" forces of Ethiopia, the opposition Diaspora are elated, ecstatic and rejoicing at the prospect of Ethiopia again having famine, hanger and starvation, precisely because it is occurring under the “dictatorial" TPLF/Woyane regime. Millions of Ethiopians are starving again.. solution? “the TPLF/Woyane regime had to go.” It is an opportunity not to be missed, let us attack while the iron is hot, maybe we might make it this time.

Dream on, you rejects.

You are never for the good of our beloved land nor are you mourning the plight of our people. Your deeds and history attests to that. Don’t be fooled we the Ethiopian people, we the silent majority of the Diaspora know who you are what you guys want and what your up to perfectly well.

Leave Ethiopia alone! She will surely overcome her misfortunes with the sweat and blood of her kids.

Just watch

And just to remind you don’t play with fire!

I am not a member of any political organization. But it is amazing how every thing is always related to politics, specially the weakness of the current EPRDF's policies. It is true that there are a lot of weak parts on the part of the government as well as the various oppositions but we have to be honest when we point fingers, we should also point fingers at others too.

While the issue of policy is debatable, we must ask ourselves why is there such a coordinated and selective attack on every aspect from foreign medias, international organizations (WB, IMF, the UN, etc), other NGOs, and some western governments? This has been done to all successive governments of Ethiopia.

Although exposing what has been hidden (if there is any) and informing (not disinforming) the public is important, using this opportunity to ones own greedy and sefish interest is a crime by itself and we must ask why. Is it only the government that is responsible to all the reccurrent drought?

What about all this golbal grain business monopoly in the world, why are we forced to accept free market economy, don't we Ethiopian farmers have the right to grow our own crops as opposed to the patented ones from western companies, why do some international organizations oppose resetelment programs to fertile areas, who is going to benefint ultimatly from the privatization of public enterprises and land and financial institutions for foreiners, we can ask a lot of questions.

We have to know that these groups contiue to cry as far as they don't controll our resources, that is their point of crying and they are doing the right thing for hemselves.

We have to forearm ourselves for this. We have to know it is only us, Ethiopians, that can find solutions to ourselves and not those who speak about failing policies day and night for the past 37 years and even during the imperial time.

It is a good oportunity now that the government should work hand in hand with any opposition in matters of national interest. Our country is our common place where we live with all our differences. Differences in outlook shouldn't lead to imprisonment on the part of the government, and conflict and alignment with anti-Ethiopian distructive forces of all varieties (with relegious, national, global business, etc agendas) on the part of the oppositions just to win the government.

Some forces wants us to be in perpetual unstability resulting from any thing ranging from individuals to rebel fighters by providing financial and human assistance.
Other forces want to control our resources through a number of tactics to fullfill their secret agendas in the name of free market, privatizaion, GMO (seeds or food), etc using agreements such as WTO, etc. Once we loose, the price to get it back is either too or impossible!!! It is up to us - Ethiopians, You and Me regardless of our differences to give priority in solving our problems.

the point this man is trying to make is if there is democracy in ethiopia there wont be a famine and according to him democracy simply means a means to remove the current government and replace it by his choice, by election if possible. but the sad thing is people like this guy work day and night to make sure ethiopia remains in poverty and under threat of famine to make their point and one day to achieve their dream.
it is realy sad for the country and her poor people who are caught in the middle of a never ending power struggle.

US should make it clear we will feed the hungry with Agencies for this time and Govenment should not have any say on how other than clearing way to get the food to the hungry.

If Meles say NO to that guess what he will last few days when people are hugnry they will eat him alive!

I do not want Meles using this help to run his election with it.

Yes, I want help for the hungry but giver decide how and when to do it!

The past 35 years of corrupt regimes will be but a brief moment in the span of history. The current secessionist regime is only in power because of its constant cry for help from outsiders to provide their alien interests with financial assistance. The American government today is not the same as one year ago, they are more affectionate to the plight of Africa's poor majority than the previous Bush administration. It is not for America to solve all African problems, but their help in aleviating poverty is much appreciated. Help in the way of ceasing financial assistance to the illegitamate regime in Ethiopia will be a step closer to freedom of Ethiopia's poor majority. All financial assistance should be channelled through the specialized agencies of the United Nations and Crown Council Of Ethiopia which can only forge the true unity of the nation we so long desire, our history is evident of this fact. When the foreign donors cease financial assistance to the current regime, their soldiers will cease defending their alien puppets who live off the wages of their begging handouts. Any government that does not serve its peoples will crumble easily. "Those personalities who believe in freeing a country by secession are selfish and prey to outsiders, we will not accept their motives." Wow,this is some thing one should remember the only thing we got from Derge was distruction abslut missery and 18000Km compering to the one hundred tousand Km of roads,i am not from the north if you think that way,the government of Ethiopia is just doing great and they will do much better than this and time will tell.and i hope they will stay for a while longer until we understand Ethiopia better than we do now.
We don't need democracy, the chines are doing a great job with out having one,the democracy we Ethiopians understand is anarchy and distruction.

Ethiopia needs a strong people elected government who can listen and work with the people for the people.

So otherwise as the meles government is be on the power ,there is no solution for whole nation .Instead of it ,it is getting the worst and the worst . Because meles government and the people are STOMACH and BACK.

If everybody sees things clearly :

we are potentially rich with water,
mines , cattle , farms , and so on.

but there is no GOOD GOVERNOR.
